3ds + Wii U + better msg and launch

Probably his train of thoughts, I don't know. That's 2x what than I expected but a healthy Nintendo fits my gaming preferences.

They better have a lot of unannounced exclusives planned for this year we don't know about yet.

There's already obvious droughts in this year's lineup.

Not even close.

Better than Wii U, for sure, but nowhere near Wii.

Switch: 40 million units lifetime, worldwide, MAX, at best.

They'd have to have price cuts in line with industry norms (and Nintendo past norm) in order to sell more than 30-40 million.

Wii U's price never really dropped, essentially staying the same from 2012-2016, aside from replacing the $299 8gb basic SKU with the 32gb deluxe SKU and leaving that at $299.

You know what? It depends how long the Switch family is supported, number of revisions, that type of thing, but I can see it getting to 100M in 8-10 years if the above works out well.

Not a chance in hell.

And I think he knows it. It's why the initial shipments are so small.

They expected WiiU to sell like the Wii did. Why iwata put like 15 million into production right away. But it never sold through that initial order. (hence why no price cut, alternate SKUs)

Wii was a once in a life time phenomenon . So many non gamers bought one for parties and such. Switch is not going to get those same people. In fact, because of the Wii U's failure, I already know many of those same people want nothing to do with Nintendo anymore.
Switch is going to do better than Wii U but I don't see it getting even close to the Wii's success.

It's ok to have big expectations, but to say THAT in an interview....I don't know. Like are those their real expectations for the console?

I guess that's an expectation based on their handheld & console audience combined? Which rounded up is 14 mil for the Wii U ans 66 mil 3ds, so 80 mil. So they need 21 million more people to make the switch worldwide? Nope, I don't see it. I don't even think the PS4 is going to reach the Wii

I really don't know what to expect from the Switch, but I cannot see that happening. Perhaps, if it is very well-supported and around for many years, including incremental hardware updates? Even still, idk. The Wii was so popular, I am not sure if the Switch can reach that mainstream level of hype.

its weird that they can get away with predictions like that, you'd NEVER see that in the USA because shareholders would sue when it doesn't pan out.

It will do better than Wii U, that's for sure. Nintendo Switch has already surpassed Wii U in terms of pre release hype with the previews and commercials, and there's still 1 month left till Switch launches. Doing Wii numbers however... ehhhhhhh.

It can't possibly do worse than the Wii U, especially if they put a mainline Pokemon on it, but Wii-like success is pure delusion. That audience is long gone and they're never coming back.
