RUMOUR: FFVII Remake not in full production yet, hints that it might be next-gen

It's Japanese development. They are not going to jump to PS5 as soon as it's released. I would not be surprised at all if the first two episodes were released on PS4 only with the PS5 out.

I would fully expect to see updated PS5 versions of the remake series.

Uh, yeah, this doesn't sound like an actual rumour to me. Sounds like the writer is just speculating based on their interpretation of a couple lines.

does square just make announcements based on what they find scribbled on the back of napkins right off to the side of the trash can?

That's 100% VG247 especulation, but when we're talking about Nomura everything is possible.

CC2 has a great track record of getting projects done to the best of their ability, even if i'm ignoring the barb about Nomura.

Same with Osaka team and KH3.

I get going stir crazy for info, but that's no reason to go full blown disingenious

This thread is not news worthy and is misleading.

That being said, Square HAS TO STOP announcing games this early.

This would only work once (VersusXIII).

This is just an interpretation of the interview already posted.
I guess we'll find out more about the project at E3.
But yeah SE has issues in developing modern RPGs with AAA production values.

When did square pivot to becoming a studio that spends a billion years on everything they make

They used to be prolific like not even that long ago

Its sad to think how much better SE would be if not for Nomura.

Hopefully they kick Nomura and give the project to Tabata otherwise we aren't getting it on PS4.

You guys are really stretching the boundaries of Nomura hate based on literally nothing. That Tabata wanking is especially irritating.

Can't we go a few seconds without intentionally going for director wars.

I really hope one of the mods closes this thread, its based on nothing but concern trolling, speculation and no rumor present. But to no surprise it doesn't stop anyone.

They already had a gameplay trailer more than a year ago though, one would hope that would indicate they are beyond target footage.

I mean, Versus XIII had the same deal going on and that didn't do the game much good.

I can't imagine this would take nearly as long, but offering up something that looks like gameplay is hardly the vote of confidence that it used to be.

You don't need to be empathetic towards me.
Square is a joke and this is why they're almost irrelevant now compared to their ps1/ps2 era.

Fucking disappointing as usual.

The episodes thing sucks, but since we've already dealt with the grief of that announcement, I don't see what the big deal is. Chances are, we see part 1 by 2019. Either later that year, or the next is when I would expect to see the true next-gen console announcements/reveals. All parts will still launch on PS4, but will be much prettier on the PS5.

I'm probably far too optimistic in S-E, but I don't see why they can't get disc one / part 1 completed in 3-4 years if they go all in.

From that same interview, posted yesterday on GAF:
Yoshinori Kitase said:
In closing, Kitase hopes to show progress made on Final Fantasy VII Remake sometime this year. He thinks it would be nice if they could have it playable or a trailer for it at an event.
Looks to me like they're planning on having it playable at an event this year. I very much doubt that this isn't in full production.

They can still get games like World of Final Fantasy and the Lightning sequels out the door in reasonable timeframes. There is something specific about Kingdom Hearts and number series FF that makes them drag their feet for years...

The amount of speculation makes it read like a forum post. VG247 is maybe one or two steps above sites like Kdramastars in terms of reporting and article quality.
