PS4 firmware 4.50 add Boost Mode for PS4 Pro.

I have to be honest, I'm very impressed with some of the improvements I'm seeing in videos.

I suppose the amount of improvement in frame rates comes down to why there was issues previously, if it was largely a GPU issue then the improvements we're seeing may be down to the improved clock rate as well as the pretty significant increase in raw GPU power.

If the CPU is also "boosted" post firmware then there's still a pretty decent bump there even if it doesn't match up with the GPU boost.

I'm really looking forward to seeing in depth analysis from the people in the know when the firmware is out for everybody else.

Again.. how do you know every dev is doing this for each pro patch? There a plenty of "pro" support patches that change just the UI or add AF or something like that.

Depends on if OW runs at a locked 60fps or if it's unlocked. Given the limitations of TV displays, I can't see why they'd bother to have it unlocked.

While this is cool, I really hope developers will not get a pass if their games run fine on boost mode but bad on the og ps4.

PS4 is still the main priority as 95% of people still own PS4 OG

A vast majority will still own PS4 OG even when PS5 comes out

as far as i know developers can't build a Pro mode that isn't running at full clock speed

For someone like me who hasn't reached that point in Bloodborne that video could very well pass for a troll. Not saying it is but it basically looks like someone is playing the second half in slo-mo.

We can come to a consensus that those mobs drop the framerate THAT bad right? I'm sure someone would have pointed it out if they didn't.

Ah there we go. Fair enough.

Honestly, now I feel bad for doing the witches comparison because seems like people think Bloodborne runs a lot better. Truth is that it runs the same for 98% of the game but on extreme cases, like the witches, the new mode helps.

Anyways, after pizza I want to do a coop boss. Any idea what's the boss that kills the framerate the most? can't remember now.

Are there any othe times bloodborne runs this bad? Seems like kind of an edge case.

Yes, this is an extreme case

this is a regular gameplay comparison

It's an absolute edge case, Bloodborne just has massive drops in that area and boost mode shows a massive improvement.

It's like Blighttown in DS.

I believe any game made before 1997 is "essentially cave man art."
Someone please check a ps2 game and see if it messed with emulation at all.

As far as I'm aware, it's only those mobs in that one area (the chalice dungeons). When you fight them in the main game it doesn't have that issue.

Yeah it looks like the main cause of the drop is that red light/smoke effect. Layered alpha transparencies are notorious for killing frame rates.

Boost mode - how is this possible ? Cerny mentioned that changing the cpu frequency broke the base ps4 games . Thats why they underclocked the cpu and turned off part of the gpu . Maybe they are unlocking the gpu but keeping the cpu clock rate at 1.6ghz ? Like microsoft did with xbone s keeping the cpu at 1.75 ghz and overclocking the gpu at 911mhz

Who cares?

Ok I need a hero to test EDF I want to know how many ants the Pro can handle.

It didn't break all games. They said it broke some games. They solved this by giving users a toggle.
