Paradox DLC model is what makes me always think why the fuck people keep supporting annual releases like Madden or FM instead of going with one game and update it constantly. More money for the publishers of course, but from consumer size, it's basically mean you're being extorted by buying the same game at full price every year. Paradox's model works really well not only to the benefit of them but their player as well. The support comes along for free via accompanying update for those DLC too, which mean more frugal person can play their game with the (half) renewed feeling while waiting for sales on that DLC.

People complains that Paradox DLC is too lacking in content to be priced that way. I kinda agree on the pricing though on the amount of content itself, I'm disagree. To my experience even with such incremental changes, most Paradox major update usually able to changed on how the game would be played. It's just nature of strategy game where major features introduced to an existing mechanics it will shift the balance within the gameplay system. So of course ideally Paradox should have more content to their $20 expansion, but it's impossible to introduce so many feature without breaking too much shit in the process. As such, they should adjust their pricing more accordingly ($15 is sweet spot).

I've never understood the tolerance for the Madden model. If ever there was a genre where DLC makes the most sense, it's sports games. DLC for new teams and rosters, game stays relevant forever. Maybe do a version change every three years or so. But they still cling to the yearly model dating back to the 16 bit era, and people still support it. Honestly I think the pricing on the Paradox stuff is as much for "continued support" as it is for new content. It's almost more a patronage model. I know if I played any of those games the way some people do for hundreds and hundreds of hours, I would happily buy everything related that they released whether I wanted the cosmetic content or not. As LurkerPrime mentioned it's definitely a "games as service" model like we see with MMOs without the online requirements or trappings.

Dear everyone,

We are sorry that it took us some time to respond to your comments about the review but we honestly didn't know where to put our hands in the first place in all this release turmoil. We are starting to calm down but this infamous review is a perfect example of our recklessness - and we are extremely sorry about it. We reached out to a small team of UndeadScout over a year ago. Even though there were only 3 of them working on Husk, we saw tons of potential in the game and we really wanted to bring the Silent Hill vibe back to the world again - so we joined forces.

We are open to all your suggestions on how to improve the game (more info on our planned updates and patches in a separate post soon), and we are going to do our best to make it a better experience.
Folks from UndeadScout are extremely passionate and we strongly believe that we can improve Husk together. Nevertheless, when we saw the initial flood of negative reviews right after the launch of Husk, we got scared. And we knew that our friends from UndeadScout didn't see that coming - it was devastating to them, especially as it's their first game and they put so much effort into it. So - believe it or not - we simply wanted to make them feel better. We naively thought that a positive review is going to change their feelings related to the game's reception. It was a friendly (yet ridiculous) impulse towards the developer - not an attempt to mislead anyone.

That was wrong. Very wrong. We decided to remove the review immediately. That's how people who just did something bad typically react - they are trying to deny it, bury it and push it away; and everything is fueled by fear.

The developers from UndeadScout had nothing to do with it. We are the ones to blame. We promise we will do our best to improve Husk together with UndeadScout. We strive to be 100% open and transparent with you, the community. You are what matters the most to us.

Let's continue the conversation and make Husk better together. And please feel free to ask us any questions you've got.

TL;DR This was a very rash and silly act on our side. We are deeply sorry for this inappropriate behavior. Updates for Husk are coming.

Bart (the author of the review) and the team of IMGN.PRO (publisher of Husk)

Yes. They actually owned up to it.

People I know review games I make sometimes, just as people I don't know. It's good they owned up and explained themselves but I didn't find it particularly malicious in the first place. Usually people you know are some of the people aware of the game you're about to release.

I haven't played Husk yet, but heard from one friend who's a horror enthusiast like I am they've enjoyed what they played so far, but it does need a bit of polish. Hush's biggest strength is its atmosphere, which it does hit what it's going for, but some of the bugs and roughness in areas do detract from that, if they polish it off it'll certainly find an audience. See if I agree with him but I might wait a bit to play when patched up a bit, but I think it looks interesting.

At this rate its be better to play emulated ps2 or grab it on x1

It doesn't help you can't quicksave. If it at a least had that I could handle some crashing here and there. But constantly losing progress, no thanks.

Edgar and Locke's
little freak out over Terra using magic (which I guess wouldnt have happened if I just attacked with Terra? I guess I eventually would have to heal tho) mid battle
was super cute, hopefully there's more comedy like that, im into that.

The characters are already much more relatable than 4's super bland cast. The
amnesia stuff
is a little cliche but lets see where it goes.

Is this a 3 or 4 member party game btw? or even 5, although I dont think 5 character panels fit on the bottom of the screen

Is this about Nier? The PC release better not be a year out.

Just as likely due to the poor lifetime sales of the X1. More PS4 hardware sales = higher installed PS4 userbase = more PS4 exclusive sales over the exclusivity period.

I mean, might be mandated as well, but it wouldn't be the sole thing, I'm sure.

Hollow Knight looks very very good. I can't wait until it actually releases.
Yeah the sneak peek is really promising.
That sneak peak of Hollow Knight is quality. I really hope we get the full game when it releases but I doubt it. If not, I'll complain to Humble for sure. Regardless, the game seems like it will be fantastic.

Dev on the steam forums:
The Sneak Peek is only a demo and will not later grant anyone access to the full game.

If/when you buy the game through Steam (at launch) then the game will appear in your library. =)
It can be pre-ordered on humble for $15 so I assume that's the launch price.

Atlus needs to get off it's high horse and just port their games on Steam so they get enough money to make ana ctual proper SMT5 with an actual AAA gaming budget that has Kaneko's demon designs look freakin' awesome compared to their artwork.

I'd suggest putting in a friendly survey response to the Atlus' Japan survey duckroll put up.

Looks like it's time for an ALL-OUT ATTACK

CtjvzZG.png

First step to getting more Atlus PC ports is giving them hints that there's a good number of folks who'll buy these ports/remasters/new Persona games.

I'm kind of surprised you didn't figure it out earlier - the game drops such big hints on that happening, it's like an oncoming trainwreck.

I was surprised though how well they handled the issue - especially considering the way Japanese games usually handle LGBT issues (hullo Persona 4)

So many of these scams could be prevented if Valve had a way to verify keys without redeeming them. They could even take steps to allow keys to be verified without the ability to redeem them.

My proposed changes are similar to how credit cards implemented CVV2 way back when.

Hopefully someone listens to my inane ramblings.

I don't know what happened with OAuth 2 years ago and why valve decided to remove it completely. Wouldn't it be a good solution to prevent scams in user-to-user trading/selling?

Oauth was only removed from certain partners, it's still used by some like Nvidia and Paradox.

It wouldn't prevent chargeback scam, as key can be sold before chargeback happens.

Thanks for the information. That's better than nothing I guess.

Actually, I can't think of any solution to chargeback scam.

They dont exactly lose much by hqving ti on pc as well or shortly down the line. At best they grt double dippers. Not all ps4 owners prefer gaming on pc and the percentage of people who would game on both platforms, and would choose pc over ps4 ould be a small amount

A year of exclusivity seems to be a problem among Japanese publishers, or the Japanese branches of publishers, exclusively. Everybody's Gone to the Rapture released on the PC after eight months, Helldivers after six months, Axiom Verge after a month-and-a-half, etc. I get the feeling Japanese publishers are averse to negotiating a better deal for themselves and accept whatever offer comes their way while western developers/publishers are much more aware that the sooner a game goes multiplatform, the better. Tomb Raider aside, the issue doesn't manifest on the X1 simply because the Xbox brand is a non-starter in Japan.

Is this about Nier? The PC release better not be a year out.

The Squeenix Store page still says "early 2017", which presumably means "before July".

They make a lot of sense in hindsight, I just really didn't expect the story to go in that direction at all :/

True, but publishers will also be paid for exclusivity, right? And, presumably, their payment for 1 year is larger than 6 months. So, 1 year means they get all the people who can't wait for PC + all the people who would rather game on PS4 + larger bonus for 1 year exclusivity and then all the double-dippers, PC-preference gamers, and the people without PS4s.

Not trying to defend exclusivity, because it's a moronic system which penalises consumers for not having every system out there, but as long as it's timed exclusive, it's not the worst thing.

The problem with that line of thinking is that it's easy to say, but realistically they leave a lot of money on the table in the PC space with that.
Firstly, you can't sell a late port at full price. The marketing hype is already over, the game is a 'known quantity' by that point and there are already other 'shiny new games' coming out. And double dippers are a minority and they won't make up for lost day 1 full-price sales.
I think I made a more elaborate post on this somewhere.

I did some really really rough calculations (seriously, really rough), but Tales of Berseria has made more than a third, maybe even half of FF XIII lifetime revenue on Steam in just it's launch week.
And you're looking at a AA budget JRPG game with 45k owners vs. a mainline Final Fantasy game with 634k.

Yeah, I get what you're saying, but it's not a hard-and-fast rule either way. As an example

Firstly, you can't sell a late port at full price.

GTA V would like to have a word with you. And even if you assume GTA is an exception due to its franchise-strength, there's still Rise of the Tomb Raider and Dark Souls 1, neither of which have GTA's name-recognition. Even Steins;Gate costs £25, which considering it's niche genre and incredibly late-port is a pretty high price.

I definitely agree that double-dippers are a negligible amount of revenue, but at the same-time, I don't know how much the casual PC gamer really looks at other system's titles. You can say

the game is a 'known quantity' by that point

But that actually doesn't matter to people who 1) want to play it but haven't had the chance yet, and 2) don't pay attention to (as an example) what's released on the PS4. An exception would be something that's crossed into mainstream media exposure, like Bloodborne, but even that's countered by that exposure creating a "must-play" vibe. If BB ever gets a PC release, its sales are going to be staggering, and you can bet that'll be at full-price.

Some how Digital Homicide have managed to change the steam sub so that the gleam giveaway here now drops their entire catalog even all the weird music dlc. No idea how they managed it seeing as they were kicked off steam.

I got Dungeons of Kragmor and Operation: Global shield from the key, the two I was missing.

Standard tweet, facebook, subscribe nonsense.

New sub.

So if you really really want them...
