Ghost Recon Wildlands Closed Beta Discussion Thread

Finished the story missions with a friend. I still really like the co-op gameplay, and there's a lot of cool things that can happen in the open world, but I have a few problems.

- Mission design kind of sucks. When my friend and I reached the final mission to take out two of the head cartel members, the mission comprised solely of going to a location, entering the building, and shooting them. I was expecting maybe waves of enemies, having to chase them down, etc. Instead it just felt like any old mission.

- There needs to be more music. I feel like music should kick in when you're spotted and engaged in a firefight.

- Driving controls are awful. I've tried kb/m and a controller and neither played well.

- Lots of weird glitches. I'm going to chalk this up to it being a beta/older build, but it was still distracting. I had times where audio would become muffled after respawning, my character's pose getting stuck with his hand pressed against his ear piece, etc.

- Graphics and character models could be improved. Audio, such as weapon sounds, could use some tuning, and I would have liked to see better hit reaction from enemies.

I'm still going to pick it up, because despite those issues I did have a lot of fun with it. That said I do hope Ubi is working to deliver a more polished experience at launch. Hopefully they'll do another beta like they're doing with For Honor.

That's a tad critical no? I mean it is a beta. I've got no reason to believe there hasn't been some extra polish put in since this build. Not to mention you didn't even critique the gameplay just the presentation which again could be due to it being a beta.

The game comes out pretty soon, no? How much time could have passed between the beta build made and the final version being released for march. I understand sometimes a lot of time can pass but usually it isn't too long. Some game mechanics just didn't make sense like the overly complicated UI and the fact it automatically throws you into a public session with no way to stop it (from what I saw).

The gameplay I found meh overall and quite repetitive. I know they're mainly different games but the Division is better in this front and it's repetitive as hell also.

That's my biggest issue so far. Some missions involve spending minutes getting to the marker and then seconds to actually completing it.

The has the gunplay down it just needs some polishing in other areas .

The vehicles need SERIOUS attention. They handle like ass, when you use the handbrake the turning is dumb to the point of hilarity.

I also am not that big of a fan of how the helicopters handle.

Overall I wish the game had better physics for vehicles... don't think they can fix that anytime soon.

Agreed, they didnt gave a damm about physics but i dony consider that a flaw lol.

All finished.

Overall, pretty meh. Game needs some serious polish.

And that drone insta kill thing is fucking OP as hell. Put a few points into it, now I can simultaneously kill 3 guys without doing anything. How they hell can my team mates fire a bullet thru a solid wall when they are below the actual target at the bottom of a hill? There doesnt seem to be any real world boundaries at all.

The fact that you can literally jump off a 4 story high building and not even sustain any dmg at all really gripes me as well.

I had 3 different people send me UPLAY invites and not one of them came to my email. And yes, I double checked spam/junk folders. ANd I know it is the right email because I have an email in my inbox from ubi thanking me for being in the steep geta and for registering for the GR Wildlands beta (Which I didn't get into obviously).

Anybody else having this issue?

I'll assume they can fix the bugs, but the underlying game is just boring. I mean how easy could they possibly make it. The map on its own already narrows down where enemies are to a very small area. Then you have your magic drone wallhacks. And its a third person shooter, so you can already look around corners/cover without revealing yourself. The entire map is trivial to clear, even with 0 unlocks. Imagine how easy it gets with a skilled out character. Should have thrown something challenging in the beta, like that locked off base or whatever maybe.

The loading times are also atrocious. Installed it on a Samsung Evo 850 SSD...

I know it's closed beta... but can they really patch this thing up by March?

I love games like these, and I like the idea of an open world, third person co-op mashup of Far Cry, Just Cause, and Tom Clancy TPS gameplay, but this game is just SO rough.

It's not awful, but I'm surprised how much it didn't learn from the division.

It's really fun 4 buddies

But it is awful. The shooting is really bad, driving is bad, super glitchy, terrible framerate (beta, sure).

Just, like, nothing good about it. Should have had the Division team make it with them.

Its not THAT bad. Some of it feels half-baked, but its a pretty good attempt at a co-op open world stealth/action shooter.

I'll agree about performance, I do hope this is an older build and they've smoothed out performance. A 4570k + 1070 having trouble with this makes no sense.

The driving in this game is hilarious. Do the trees even have collision?

Unless there is some substantial stuff being hidden for the full release, I might skip this. It looks like it could probably be fun co-op, but as a single player experience it seems kinda dry

I wouldn't call the shooting really bad at all tbh. It's been the one redeeming factor so far.

Well, that and I can wear a cowboy hat

If one thing this game nailed is the killing feedback.

You can complain about basically everything but not that.

As a beta this just needs a couple ir patches to reach greatness.

I expected nothing and was really pleasantly surprised. Made me feel like playing the first Ghost Recon in some ways. Can't even imagine how fun would it be with friends.

I just don't have time for it, too many great games.

This game reminded me of Borderlands solely for my experience with the game:

- I hated it when I played it alone
- I had a blast when a friend joined me

Now I'm kinda interested in the game.

My friend seems to be convinced the progress from the beta carries over. Did they mention anything about this?

The FAQ specifically says it won't carry over to retail.

I found this way more fun than I expected, but stuff like mission design and just general gameplay feel are definitely worse than I would want. Some of the writing is also...questionable in tone. (Thinking of that torture speech, for example. I know what they mean when they say water boarding is "soft" or whatever, and the macho dumbness is maybe realistic, but still.) Kind of torn.

This beta really did not do the game any favors with the group of friends I played it with. I would say most were ready to preorder the game for fun coop times on release and now none of us are planning on buying it. It just doesn't have a lot going for it.

Here are some of the issues/complaints I had that were shared by my group generally:

-General bugginess and jank. People getting stuck and having to fast travel to a teammate closeby just to get out. People's hands being stuck on a mounted gun while they ran away leading to insanely long arms being tethered. Vehicle collision stuff. It just did not feel polished at all (and it is a beta yes, but the way it is advertised you know players are going to use this as a demo to judge whether the game is worth buying)

-Uninteresting combat and bad AI. Dudes just run at you and we really had no interesting firefights that would require any tactical decisions or anything like that. Even the climax of the mission chain was just busting in a building and shooting a bunch of braindead enemies who scattered around.

-Uninteresting gunplay. The guns are all laser accurate when sighted which left them all feeling the same. No real drive to find new weapons or upgrade or anything like that

-Boring traversal gameplay. A lot of the time we were simply driving from one part of the map to another and this is made much more annoying by bad driving controls. We were playing with m/kb so they're never going to be stellar but they could be a lot better than this. Watch Dogs 2 recently came out which had much better driving controls on a keyboard. Then add in the fact that the majority of the roads are windy mountain roads and it's just a time waster getting from one area to another. The other option is to jump in a heli but thats boring too, you just hold forward and wait to get where you want.

-Just bad game feel. A lot of people were hoping this would be a coop MGSV but the clumsy feeling this game has puts a bullet in that idea.

The only way I can see getting this now is on a deep deep sale.

That's my biggest issue so far. Some missions involve spending minutes getting to the marker and then seconds to actually completing it.

I felt like most of the missions involved more time traveling then actually doing anything fun. Even w/ 2 other friends in my party we still got bored pretty fast.

I'll hold judgement until reviews can pick apart the final build, but this beta has not done them any favors.

I just had a glitch where there were two guys in a jeep and when I shot one of them, he multiplied himself and became 10 guys and they all poured out of the truck. Ended up being incapacitated and he was strangely still multiplying at times. It was so weird.

Ehh not really

It's not exactly Max Payne 3 or even MGSV level of feedback. I think everything about the clumsy controls and the awkward feel of the action definitely makes the shooting much worse overall.

EDIT: Also, really, those death animations are pretty weak. You shoot a guy with a standard assault rifle, sometimes he falls down like you would expect, but sometimes he flys back like an explosion just hit him. It doesn't feel consistent at all.

Like the game...going to buy it however

The flying controls suck ass....all movement on 1 stick???....why not use the lb and rb to at least alter the nose pointing left and right like most other games with choppers/planes

Also the over the shoulder not being able to switch l and r is annoying

And the cover system is very rough

Hope they fix the above

Finished the beta, feels like the division open world design where you will waste your time farming and doing sidequest with low enemy variety.

I wish gathering material could be globally shared for all players

Just putting rag dolls on the enemies would make it feel much better, I shot the boss fat legs once she was down and there is no hit reaction, when enemies die they just become part of the scenery...there's no weight to them, as someone else said, they feel paper thin.

I was very negative when trying this solo, everything felt awful but played it with a friend and we did have fun. The AI needs work, the animations too, lip sing and face models... the faces seem straight jacked out of the last splinter cell. I know this is a huge open world but damn some of the stuff in there is rough.
They should rethink the entire of physics of the enemies, players and vehicules.

On the other hand great customization of gear and weapons. I didn't mind the banter and I thought it was cool that my character called out enemies positions to my friend without me having to actively press a button.
Wondering how those five stars province handle difficulty as it was really easy here with just squad of 2.

Performance was bad, but as someone suggested I seemed to get more stable experience once I capped the framerate at 60, thing I shouldn't have to do on a Gsync 144hz monitor but what the hell, hope they drastically increase performance come next month.

Overall it's a mixed bag, but as janky as it isn't I'm willing to get it just to mess around with my friend. Love co-op games.

Played a bit yesterday and, while there is a lot that needs to be improved, this is exactly what i need. It's one huge ass T-hunt that i can play with friends.
Controls need to be improved but most Tom Clancy games control really well so i don't worry too much about that.

Anyway, i hope they can improve greatly on the beta before release and after release (lijke Rainbow Six: Siege). Seems like a day one purchase for me if they can take it to a better level.

Is there a way to customize the appearance and loadout of the AI squad members in single player? Or will there be in the full game?

I've been disappointed by Wildlands - it takes longer to get to the mission than it does to complete it! The open world adds nothing to this - in fact it feels like The Division more than it does Ghost Recon!

I don't know how old this build is; but I hope it's very old!

The open world is the best part of the game IMO.

Yeah I'm really enjoying it, so I feel like I'm taking crazy pills reading this thread, but one thing that really bugs me is the AI teammates.
Not even just how dumb they are, cause they weren't smart in the first GR, but how little you can work with them.
If I want to breach from one door of a building and have them breach from another, it's virtually impossible to do.

This game HAS to be played in co-op, however it would've worked just fine in single player, if they had put real squad commands in.
Even R6 Vegas had much better squad commands.

Sure feels like popping crazy pills alright.

Don't think I've seen this much negativity around something in a long time.
