JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable OT What a Beautiful Duwang

Well from the few chapters I've read of "Gon" he does seem to be left to fend for himself :p
Not that it's much of an issue for the guy. He lives in a world inhabited by just regular, non-extinct animals after all

Back to JoJo - watching that BT episode on Toonami from the other night with the 4K TV put me in utter awe

Oh god it has to be a known shonen joke at this point. There are some parts in part 4 that have to look great in 4k.

Oh hellz yeah!

And btw, the way DavidPro had to handle DiU must have been quite the challenging task. When you consider that it was 39 episodes straight on through w/ no breaks whatsoever and around 17 episode extensions (where they leave out either the OP or ED or both) and with it airing after midnight where there's limited viewership to top it off - it didn't come as much of a surprise to me that the quality suffered a bit.

I know there could be other anime that may have pulled off such a feat at no cost, but this is DavidPro and not something like Studio BONES or Production I.G.
And fluid animation for their JoJo adaptation isn't quite the
fucking
strong suit.
The crazy stylized frames are where it is at!

I also really appreciate how DavidPro gets some top tier talent for the voice work. The dude that did Kira was a fucking standout, I was very impressed. Not to mention they got Knuckle Bine to voice Okuyasu.

I agree totally!
It's stuff like JJBA and MHA (and early OP) which are the only shonen series I'd primarily recommend for people to watch with Japanese audio. All that ham (plus cheese) is too dang delicious to pass up!

I can't do english Jojo. I think a lot of it gets lost in translation. I'm curious about the SDC dub, they original vocal talent just can't be touched. I don't even consider dub Stroheim and Japanese Stroheim as the same character.

Oh yes - this right here is not something that modern dubs should be wrought with imo

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
I don't actually mind the dub of Part 1 and 2. The bad accents and all that lend themselves well to the feel of the story and characters and such. Its not like the show or manga is exactly the most accurate portrayals of all these people and places. Not many body builder frenchmen wearing halter top with one shoulder strap and sporting a haircut to make Guile proud.

Part 3 will be interesting simply on who plays old man Joestar. OH NOOO and OH SHITTT are going to have to be spot on.

I thought the dub was decent (except for low energy Stroheim) and perfectly watchable. No where near the original VAs, but their interpretation holds up for different reasons. Although, I might be the only person that likes the accents for how cheesy they are.

It might also be partially my fault for only watching one dub ep. I did the same thing to Kill La Kill, which actually has a good dub, I just have to have Satsuki in Japanese for some reason.

It's really only Stroheim and Caesar's portrayals which I feel this way toward. Don't get me wrong, I love what they did with the Pillar Men and Ben Diskin as Joseph is some good fun. I will even be watching a fair deal of PB + BT in English with my sister and her bf. Just maybe not the episodes that heavily feature Stroheim and Caesar is all :þ

I should also mention that Kars's English voice actor is a theater arts teacher at the college I go to (I'm on hiatus from college atm though, but I may still visit)

Kill la Kill is its own worst enemy in any language.

Not even Dio would call people pigs in human clothing.

That's awesome. Tell him to pose.

Edit: You know, he probably isn't working there right now/doesn't work there anymore
But, I did actually see his name on the course registration list just a few months back, right when I first had found this out.

And actually the info is right there on Wikipedia, huh
Well then NOW I know it should be fine to post the proofs that it's my college he went to

Since I've been watching Jojo on Toonami...

Phantom Blood's dub is phenomenal. It's not directly equivalent to the sub audio, but it's almost as good in its own way. It just works in a way that's hard to describe unless you sit down and watch a few episodes; clips alone don't do it justice. Helps if you watch it in a group setting.

Battle Tendency is fun, too, but is weakened a lot by Caesar and Stroheim's bad voices. But Joseph and the Pillar Men have been great so far. In particular, Diskin's Joseph is different from Sugita's, but they both feel "Joseph", just in different ways.

halfway through stardust crusaders and it's a hella slog with variety hour shit, does this get better?
Yeah, SDC is kind of boring. The second half gets better, but it's my second least favorite part.

Though I still enjoy most of the stuff after Justice.

Yeah it really drags at certain parts and a lot of the card based stand users aren't very interesting nor are their stands. Once the Eygptian God stand users show up in the second half things really pick it up. Their stands are more interesting, the stories can be really hilarious like with the two brother stand users (and then Hol Horse), and the lead up to the final battle is pretty good.

The first half has some really good episodes but they're often scattered between a bunch of other lesser ones. I really enjoyed the episode with the Orangutan stand user on the boat.

Phantom Blood at least nailed it in what mattered, Dio. Stardust Crusaders would be in for a bad time with the dub if they fucked up Dio's casting.

Dio is barely in Stardust Crusaders for huge swaths of time and even when he does show up its for a couple of lines before cutting back to Jojo and crew. So its important to get him right as he is the main villain but he's in like... less than a dozen episodes in a 48 episode season and even then he's barely in many of those episodes.

Yeah, they both manage to nail Joseph by focusing on different aspects of his personality in a way that they both own the role in a way that you never would really think two different voice actors would be able to do for the same role. Sugita gets Joseph's raw presence in a way that you can easily see him being the kind of guy that can command control of his surroundings, while Diskin perfected his playful and resourceful nature to where you can similarly see him as a guy that can bullshit his way out of any situation.

It's an unpopular opinion here I think but I hate the Iggy/Pet Shop episodes, I skip them.

Stardust Crusaders is actually super good the whole way through.

*coughahemIagree* I mean what

Yeah, I think I could understand...one of my good friends had nothing to say about those episodes which surprised me. He said he likes Devo/Devil, Enya/Justice, Mannish Boy/Death 13, and nothing but the Vanilla Ice/Cream fight in the second half since I think he already knew about the DIO encounter. Even then he said he had a good time with the comedy of the second half. Still kinda baffling of course. I mean he's quite a dog person!

He did seem to enjoy DiU pretty well at least.
