So how those the blacksmith shop work? This forging and everything has me confused. Also what am I supposed to look for as far as weapons and armor being better? Right now I just find myself looking at the multiplier and putting it on like that. Any tips? Just beat Hiruko Enma so I guess I'm on the third level.

Oh and I can't do any twilight missions for some reason either.

If you want help fighting the boss, just smashed it in NG+ without lighting any fires because I thought I could without... And like, there were more than 3 blobs in the 2nd Phase. Used ALL of my cures for that fight
Nah thanks, I'm soloing everything the first time (though sometimes I help randoms*).

* Actually in my game stats, it says I have 3 coop sessions but I only helped a person once, does it count the
NPC encounters
then?

Lol, the savepoint is a punishment game. Save and all monsters respawn. Don't use the savepoint, you die and start all over...man that sucks.
Yeah that's classic Souls. But what bothers me is that unlike Souls it doesn't seem to save until you use the shrine if you just quit the game. I guess I can just use suspend mode to stop and go to bed, but I don't fully trust it (what if there's a power failure etc.), so that can be bothersome. I wish quitting the game just made a save state that disappeared as soon as you load it.

anyone else playing with every weapon type available since the beginning? i just go with whichever drops i get.
Nah, I just go fully katana/dual kats on this run. In NG+ or on a new character I'm gonna experiment with the other weapons. I like to specialize my builds. :)

I think I'll replay the game as a full ninja one day. Only light armour, kusarigama, and ninjutsu abilities (and maybe some magic). Should be fun.

edit: nvm I got it. Thanks!
So it worked then? :p

So Nioh-GAF, despite knowing that I'm going to suck at this game I'm just about to take the plunge and buy the game and season pass from PSN. Wish me luck!
Good luck! And if you find it too hard don't hesitate to call for help, this game has coop :)

I ended up going spear (main) and axe (sub), though I notice that I don't use the latter often. Not sure how good axes actually are, but spears just seem so goddamn good.

Axes are fucking amazing. Used it until Region 5. Switched to Spear just because the Red Demon armor.

This was my first soulsbourne game really (I dabbled in yarhnem for a bit but never beat the boss until recently). Over the alphas and the betas i finally got gud and it feels great memorizing your different atk methods etc.

I think what helped was in each alpha beta etc and even the game, I focused mainly on one weapon only (until now where i felt confident enough to branch out)

have fun, the games amazing

I couldn't pick between axe and dual kats at first, but eventually I ended up going spear (main) and axe (sub), though I notice that I don't use the latter often. Not sure how good axes actually are, but spears just seem so goddamn good. How are the dual swords?
Dual swords are great. Fast DPS. The low stance has lots of quick hits with fast recovery, the mid stance has a solid combo finisher (and later the ability to parry though I haven't unlocked it yet, argh!), and the high stance has a skill called Windstorm that just wrecks everything. Plus the iai draw looks cool as hell.

I main katanas, but dual kats as a sub works really well too to mix things up.

Every weapon type has its perks. I main spear as well because I love the range and ki damage of thrust attacks as well as the entangle skill, but I played around with all of them. The dual swords have an insanely good parry skill, the normal sword's great for getting behind enemies doing extra damage, the axe only needs a few hits to deplete the enemies ki while playing defensively and the kusarigama is just too cool.
I'd recommend playing around with some books of reincarnation and seeing what each type of weapon is capable of at full skill. It's impressive what they did here.

Thanks all.

I've played a little Demon's Souls and some Bloodborne (perhaps 25% at most) - games that I really want to like but struggle with (neither of those games I actually left because of difficulty... I just drifted away from them) so I know the format at least.

Good tip about the weapons - I have a tendency to just equip what has bigger numbers but as each has a distinct style (and various bonuses) I might try and stick to just one from the outset. The loot system is actually one of the reasons I decided to pick this up.

I went from not being able to beat Onryoki to taking out Nue this morning, finally getting into my groove with this game now that I've been messing around with the ninja stuff and magic.

The 60 patronage levels trophy requires excessive farming zzzzz

Not really, as soon as you get to NG+ the drops are so valueable that you can have millions of coins in no time, then just choose a rare item to reforge and repeat. Don't forget to speak with them afterwards a couple of times and the patronage points come pouring in.

How the fuck do I kill the Umi-Bozu boss? Tips?

Light all three fires in the level. Hold your weapon into the fire, have talismans ready.
First phase, constantly move side to side when he does projectile and beam attacks, dodge when he slams down his hands, attack the glowing spots. Second phase keep moving and using fire as well as living weapon.

Are Final Blow and Killing Strike the same thing? Is it called Killing Strike in the European version or something?

Been progessing quite nicely now. getin gud, just recently now downed Ogress boss solo after a few tries. The Greater Demon hunting side mission was quite a pain though.. until i figured out i just needed to just hug that boss and to go town with low stance katana.

Is there a way to go back and collect things you've missed? I just finished region 3 and I haven't been collecting all the little guys and hot springs for the trophies.

Or do I have to wait for NG+?

I'm doing NG+ missions and selling the loot (is disassembling and then selling the mats more efficient?) but it's hardly fast. I would need to farm for another 5 hours at this rate. Perhaps I'm just doing it wrong. Last missing trophy too. :/

Did the boss Y
uki onna
remind anyone of S
ister Friede
from the Dark Souls 3 DLC? I instantly thought of her.

Toughest boss so far for me. I didn't take THAT many tries but I feel like I only won thanks to Living Weapon. :( I won with 0 elixirs left out of 5 and a sliver of HP, but took out almost half her health bar with LW after depleting her ki.

Square on the world map to bring up region select. NG+ also doesn't keep you from returning to NG whenever you want.

Yep, I thought the same thing. I think that boss is one of the most difficult in the main missions, so you're not alone there either.

Use a Book of Reincarnation to delevel yourself (I went to about 80) and then farm revenants. You'll get 4 divines every time, which you can sell. Also be sure to get the sell price markup at the blacksmith.

Cool, thanks.

Secondly, where is "proficiency" shown? I can see familiarity on each weapon, but I have no idea if I'm max proficiency in something.

Go to your statistics screen and press R1 to get to the second page. Pretty sure that shows all your proficiency levels.

Someone has a list on all skill point locks? Especially famed ones.
I got 2 famed samurai 3 famed ninja and 1 famed onmyo lock so I think I missed some of them?

I just finished fighting her in Way of the Strong and yeah, she doesn't have many moves but she hits like a damn truck and does crazy Ki damage. Once you know how to deal with her she's not too bad, it's just that the punishment for mistakes is pretty severe.

Great trick, thanks. Am I better off selling the divine weapon/armor or disassembling first?
