TowerFall creator's new game Celeste coming to Switch / PS4 / PC

I look forward to buying the Xbox One version in 2020

Xbox weirdness aside, this looks cool, and Towerfall Ascension is one of my favorite multiplayer games, so im excited

Oh man, excited for this, glad he's making another platformer.

I loved his freeware games, especially An Untitled Story.

I feel like I've seen a lot of indies skip an XB1 version in favor of PS4/PC (and now Switch). I really wonder why that is
I think it just comes down to indies selling better on PS4 as opposed to XBO.

As far as the Switch goes I think it's a combination of Nintendo giving indies a good amount of promotion on the eshop and the switch apparently making it very easy to port existing projects (according to devs like Sumo Digital and Shin'en). Also if you're buying a Nintendo platform you probably like platformers.

The lack of Xbox One support is weird.

I doubt it'll be bundled and I wonder if they'd really wait for a 2D Mario, but that all sounds really reasonable.

they are waiting for the Scorpio to drop to announce that version /s

one can hope that if they ever make a Towerfall 2 for it to have network play

Looks like they lifted the physics and dash mechanics straight from Towerfall, which I am totally on board with.

The question then comes down to price.

If it's above $20 it needs a physical release for me to bite.

This isn't an indie thing, I just don't buy anything digitally above $20.

Wow, that looks great. Towerfall proved he can do outstanding platforming physics, and that 10 minute preview sold the rest. God I fuckin loved 4 player Towerfall.

Well this made the rounds a few times:

I love Towerfall so i'll give this a chance but it looks like every other indie pixel platformer. Not sure how its going to standout from the crowd.

The creator might be relying on sales of previous titles to prioritize ports.

Well considering that they waited like two years or so to release Towerfall, lol. It shouldn't be shocking it sold more elsewhere.

Well this made the rounds a few times:

Well, I don't think there has been a single indie-developer that was more outspoken about Xbox than Mr. Blow and yet he released his game there recently with no qualms... I can't help but think maybe there was a little bit of hyperbole mixed into that statement.

Also, really hard to get a jist of anything from this without him going into specifics and I'm not sure if he did at some point.

the witness made it to xb1 eventually so maybe he doesn't feel this way anymore

The way MS treats indies is nothing like it was during the 360 days, I work with indie devs with some fellow streamers and we've heard nothing but good things about Chris Charla and his ID@Xbox team.

Despite this game not coming to XB1, XB1 gets a ton of indie games. Hell there's like 6-7 this week alone.

Most likely this developer is prioritizing the PS4/Steam version, then Switch and will then release it on XB1 later. Maybe towerfall sold worst on XB1 (due to coming way later most likely) so that is their right and that's ok.

(just quoted your post because it was continuing the previous conversation btw)

This got very good praise from RPS

No single hook presented itself over the course of my time with it, but it introduces new ideas across each room which force you to attain new levels of mastery over those abilities I mentioned above.
When the jumping is the point, it rarely feels as good and as satisfying as it does in Celeste. In 2016 we’ve had N++ and Flat Heroes and that’s about it.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own

Indies in general do well on Nintendo platforms aswell which led to the whole nindies program

Cool for Switch but always weary of the Super Meat Boy trial and error template.
It isn't new and doesn't scream fun anymore.

Why are you trying to get him banned? Not cool. He probably doesn't even realize "port begging" is a mortal sin on this site.

?

Wasn't trying to get him banned and I wasn't even thinking about port begging. He can be annoyed that it's not coming to XBONE (yet) but I don't see why he has to mention the Switch. Is the Switch not allowed games or something?

It is, but he was, knowingly or not, port begging, and inmediately two guys jumped on that. If it wasn't your intention to get him in trouble, I apologize. But it's a thing I see often here, people trying to get others banned.

Is it just me or does the one mechanic seem like the Shadow Mario gimmick from the 3D Mario games? This is a good thing, if true.

the cynic in me says that microsoft only changed their treatment of indies once they started getting their asses whooped by sony

when they were dominant in the 360 days they had no problem treating jonathan blow, team meat, and other indie developers poorly

i think the same thing is happening with sony and backwards compatibility on PS4, they'll make it a priority if they are losing and have to pull out all the stops, but since they're winning handily anyway, why bother

I must be one of the few that hardly uses the d-pad for anything. Played shovel knight just fine with a stick. Though I do expect Nintendo to make a d-pad joycon fairly quick.
