Middle-Earth: Shadow of War trailer (WB/Monolith, PC/XB1/PS4, 8/22), gameplay Mar 8th

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Do we have any real details on this game yet? The CG trailer is nice but I prefer some meaty info

We're going to see about 50% of the major titles this year do that it seems.

Definitely a lot better this way. No reason to show games 1+ year out unless it's a new IP imo. ~18 months for new IPs, ~6months for sequels is the ideal time frames for me.

granted, getting excited about, say, horizon or p5 ahead of time's kinda fun. but, otoh, i don't really have a problem with this approach, either :) ...

loved the first game. looking forward to this...

If this game will be all about killing orks 100% of time from start to finish just like SOM - no thanks. The story and characters in SOM was also extremely uninteresting and uninspired. This is LOTR game and the story and character are more important that anything else, just like art and level design which in SOM was awful - the ugliest, boring and extremely simple open world I've ever seen in video games.

It is still boggles my mind that SOM got so many GOTY awards. The game is not deserve a single one of them imho. I mean, imagine if something like The Witcher 3 had extremely mediocre story and characters (Risen-style) and 100% of time all you had to do in this game is killing monsters in boring open world. So the questin is - in what state of mind a man should be to give a GOTY award to such a game? Well, I don't know the answer.

As a fan of the books and movies, I really don't mind what they do with the story nor I considere it silly. It's just a different thing. I just wish it'd be more compelling, that's all. We'll see how things turn out this time.

Trailer looked kinda neat but I'm already sort of sick of the game before seeing actual footage because of the "Silver"/"Gold" edition shit and MTA nonsense.

I love Pokken!
They clearly aren't bothering with estabilished canon anymore but whatever.

Ressurected Sauron? Balrog? Nazgul? I'm fucking in baby.

cant wait to see how they expanded the nemesis system. I'll say it once and I'll say it again, someone use the nemesis system and make a Mafia game out of it, I'll suck your dick.

The armored Balrog looks amazing, but are they not infernal ancient demons made of shadow and flame? And being able to mind control such a being would be ridiculous... but fun. We shall see.

So you're expecting them to unveil the gameplay demo of Shadow of War and Batman on the same date?

The colours, typography and logo all seemed to suggest a Batman reveal. Those kind of design choices are very deliberate. Maybe they had originally planned to reveal Shadow of War at GDC with Batman to follow up on the 8th, but due to the leak, they brought todays trailer forward. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What a damn good year for gaming 2017 is turning out to be. Can't go a few weeks without having another game I want to day one.

Wish they'd just do one big blowout instead of always having these teasers to another trailer or reveal.

But I guess it makes sense for the advertising to drag it out over two weeks.

Are you sure their thought process wasn't just "We should use this broken logo for all our grimdark games."?

Holy shit, a black guy in Middle-Earth!

Yeah that surprised me lol. I wonder if he's a unique character from some 'faraway lands' or if poc will be more prominent in this one.

Doesn't list any multiplayer either, so presumably they're for the campaign.

Yeah I can already see it in my mind: 'buy chest of war to get 5 randoms things!'

This may mean some loot will be in the game, or maybe buying better generals for your army for the nemesis system? Either way, in-app pruchases always make me apporach a game with scepticism.

I'm surprised people are wondering why they mentioned Scorpio. When they announce games I expect this going forward: "Windows/Steam, PS4, PS4Pro, Xbox One, Scorpio" (sorry Switch).

This is just nice because we are getting announcements ahead of Scorpio and know games will support it (if more announce support early).

Use the mobile tie-in app to help Tolkien turn in his grave.

Nah, Tolkien wouldn't be too bothered about it, he sold the rights of LOTR because he couldn't pay rent and went out of his way in fan letters to talk about LOTR as a piece of entertainment- not some holy text -first. Doesn't mean these games miss the mark by quite a bit when it comes to tone and lore though

Amusingly, only last month did I realise there was a free HD Texture pack on the PC for the original. Never finished the game since I got carried away with other things, so not a bad time to give it another spin

If they're still just sticking to Mordor again I'm not touching this game. Lord of the Rings has a treasure trove of amazing scenery and locations, but Mordor is bleak and bland. Liven the world up, take us to Minas Tirith or Lothlorien.
