Media Create Sales: Week 9, 2017 (Feb 27 - Mar 05)

Zelda selling poorly lol. Still sells 400-500K per release on 3DS (for OOT3D it was 600K, MM3D + ALBW it was > 400K). Given that it's a launch game, it has the potential to sell more like OOT3D. We'll see though. Those are still decently good sales in Japan. It's just no longer the juggernaut it is in the West.
What? lolol. What you expected?

09./09. [3DS] Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 - Professional <RPG> (Square Enix) {2017.02.09} (¥5.250) - 13.426 / 163.058 (+3%)

After Sukiyaki that's the next game with expected long legs because of undershipping.

I disagree with the notion that owning a cart is so much better.

Yeah, I got that, I would like to know why.

From my point of view, different from discs they doesnt have to install in the system and even though SD cards are cheap these days, I'd rather dont use my internal memory at all for bigger games if I can.

I imagine Switch will be this awesome indie and smaller game machine that will be mostly digital, so having the bigger games on a cartridge and not taking space is so much better to me.

Poorly was perhaps the wrong word choice. The series has been on a decline in terms of sales in Japan but it still sells well. Especially compared to western sales. SS ,the last AAA Zelda game released before BotW, didn't even reach 325k LTD sales in Japan.,

16./11. [3DS] Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS <ACT> (Nintendo) {2016.12.01} (¥4.700) - 7.042 / 983.867 (+0%)

Even outside of holiday period, this one is selling pretty steadily. I think it will be quite popular during the Golden Week, this year.

Looks like all the new releases finally kicked FFXV out of the top 20. I wonder how long it'll take to reach a million

It's a good abbreviation. I was hoping for SWN a la GCN, though.

I'd prefer just NS, a la NES, SNES, N64, DS, 3DS, etc. NSW is pretty great, though.

Also, nice to know the Switch sold really well for it's first few days. Zelda sales coming out with less than 190K and still being at the top of this chart is so weird knowing the last Pokemon games demolished numbers like that weeks after its first week. I'm glad we got the magnum opus of Nintendo games out on launch, but the Switch needs MK and Splatoon out. That's when we'll be seeing really good sales, I bet.

14./13. [PS4] Grand Theft Auto V [New Price Edition] <ACT> (Take-Two Interactive Japan) {2015.10.08} (¥4.990) - 7.357 / 291.327 (+19%)

...Possibly being bought as a side game to go with HZD for new console buyers?

Still very confused by what some people are doing with their Switches. I mean those software numbers barely add up to a 1:1 ratio, and there's definitely a good number of people who bought more than one game. So... a bunch of people buying digitally for some reason?

Portable system needs more digital love than console? Even though it's memory starved

Should have had a MH port ready to go for launch, Nintendo paying for the port would have made too much sense. I know what I'm doing on the 18th.
I thought so too, but Capcom are probably waiting for the Switch to build up a bit of a userbase before they commit MH. 3G only did 220k or so because the Wii U tanked after launch.

One thing I'd like to find out is the % ratio of the number of a particular MH game sold, versus the number of handhelds/consoles sold until that game stopped being tracked by MC or Famitsu, or superceded by a sequel.

Zelda big numbers for a launch title but i was expecting over 200k given the circumstances.

HZD doubled my expectations i predicted like 60-70k, glad to see it doing well.

So glad Nioh, Nier and Horizon all three home console games sold very well.

And lol at Konami with bomberman.

This might be extreme tales from my ass since I found it unsourced on 2ch while looking for other stuff, but it appears to be some sort of retailer survey detailing software titles purchased alongside a Switch

ZR and ZL are already mapped to target lock and chat; +/- are menu buttons.

The point I'm making isn't that a single-screen solution is impossible, it's that the single-screen solution requires Capcom to make non-trivial adjustments to backport. I'm certain Capcom could have gotten MHXX-S out in time for a simultaneous release with the 3DS version but I don't think it's something that is worth pulling additional staff working on MH5 or whoknowswhat

source is here. 50k samples

I kinda forgot about this survey earlier

Just noticed that Nintendo Switch has already sold more than the YTD of pretty much all console except the PS4.

Also helped with Hardware total for 2017. Launching a brand new console does help with total sales, who would have known? ;)

Not sure which games are being sold at retail in Japan, but games like Shovel Knight and Fast RMX might sell better digitally. Plus, they might just get it early for free demoes like Snipperclips and be waiting for the Splatoon 2 one coming soon.

Less than 5k. And people thought it'd sell up to 60k. Time to port Disgaea D2 to the Vita.

I always wondered why that didn't happen. I know Disgaea 4 chugged on Vita, but it should've run fairly well and would've been some easy sales for NIS.

There's still time for them to recover and it's not like all of their Vita games were sales winners either, but I do wonder how this'll shift things. Ani's confident stuff is still coming, but this probably just means even more of a focus on Steam stuff in the west (though I wonder where their games will be ending up in Japan).

Not sure if it has been posted, but Horizon debuted with more than the 3 week equivalent of Witcher 3 (2015) in Japan.

Grats to Guerilla Games on a very successful new IP :)

Switch did good (and Zelda BOTW as well to some measure, but it was never Mario or Pokemon level in Japan), but it's the coming weeks that will tell the story really, with 3 Pillars to rely on for the rest of the year (beside Zelda) : MK8, Splatoon 2 and SM Odyssey.

It'll likely tank due to no supply. If reports are to be believed then next shipment aren't getting to some retailers until this Friday/Saturday and the fact some are running lotteries makes me think they won't be huge numbers.

It's way too early to say whether the Switch has or doesn't have an impact on Nintendo 3DS sales, not with Software releases being so sparse. Summer holidays is when we should be able to start seeing if the Switch is eating's the 3DS launch or not.

So far, the drop in sales is the natural drop for a 6yo handheld.

It will probably be back in the top 20 next week. If not, likely when the first DLC hits,

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Good launch for the Switch.

Also saw this coming, but poor NIS. They should've included something, even if it was a minor extra, maybe it would've at least helped it reach the top 20.

It's still low relative to the west. 400-500k is Fire Emblem numbers now.

Over 200k week 1 for Zelda in Japan seems good to me.
Same here. Keep in mind that 400-500K is apparently above Resident Evil and Yakuza territory now.

What? lolol. What you expected?

No, I'm laughing at the "poorly". BoTW is selling fine thus far.

I don't think they were saying it sells poorly, I think they were lol'ing at the idea that it does.

Thanks.

Sad that Disgaea totally bombed as predicted.:(

Other than that Horizon was over represented on retailer charts. There was talk of outselling Zelda.

Good start for Zelda, 1,2 Switch, Bomberman, DQH and Puyo on the Switch. Was expecting a larger first shipment but this will have to do.

3DS is holding on, but I'm expecting it to start faltering after MHXX is released. It should still do relatively well because of it's library and price but I'm expecting sub 10k weeks after Splatoon 2 is launched.

HZD totally outperformed my expectations in Japan in less than 2 days(predicted 90k for 28 days). PS4 is well ahead of 2016 total as I mentioned last year there were only two games that broke 100k in the same timeframe - so having RE7, Nioh, Nier and HZD has truelly lifted the system in 2017.

Vita is slowly going to be phased out as more and more of it's titles make their way to PC/PS4 and now Switch.

Puyo Puyo Tetris headed straight to bomba bins, along with Disgaea, Setsuna, and Nobunaga.

I bet this was the plan all along.
Also Bomberman has a far smaller shipment than expected 40K is 60-80% of initial shipment. I was thinking it would around 150k.
