Yeah the Chloe indian retcon is out of nowhere. Her features were supposed to show some Australian aboriginal heritage. But I guess it's not as cool as indian mythos so let's retcon the hell out of her, who cares.

So glad they're finally focusing on Chloe. I think I'm more interested in her story after this one article than I ever was in Elena's after 4 games (such a boring character imo).

One of the very few dev's that I feel comfortable with a day 1 purchase, even my dad (who doesn't play games) loves the Uncharted series, especially 4!

am I the only one not excited at all about this game (and I'm a huge fan of the Uncharted series...although Uncharted 4 was a bit of a disappointment)?

I'm just reminded of Nepal in Uncharted 2 and how Nate having dated Chloe and likely knowing of her past, neither of them mentions anything interesting while being in a predominantly Hindu country. Like not a thing but she's half Indian now and raised Hindu. That's kinda stuff bothers me, in the same sense that Marlowe would've known about Sam and could've used that as leverage to get Drake's ring which was the most important thing to him because of Sam. But yeah no one thinks about that stuff. I'm just agitated by the inconsistencies especially since it's made by the same people so there's less reason for them.

It's a fair point, and something I think we can expect ND address in this game.

We didn't see much of what Chloe was doing for Lazarevic in Nepal in UC2. Perhaps she was their guide on Hindu lore and/or guide throughout Nepal? Can't think of too many other reasons why they needed her specifically.

I'm a bit worried about this emphasis on open world and grounded being mentioned. However, I'm still buying it regardless, ND has earned the right to make whatever they feel is right and I'm always going to support them with my wallet.

I think they could have made Nadine playable so she can be the brawn and chloe can be the brain instead of limiting her combat potential. They can make chloe sneaky and stealthy, crafty and nimble so she does the puzzles, climbing, findings and stealth take downs while Nadine should be pure combat since she's actually very capable in that aspect

Retcon seems to be an ill-defined term. I don't see how it's retconning when they are exploring Chloe's backstory in a relevant setting. All that we really know about Chloe from the games is that she's a treasure hunter with a previous relationship with Drake and an Australian accent.

Not a fan of Chloe. Didn't like her character and it's the only thing making me feel "meh" toward this.

I like Chloe, but I can see why not everybody likes her. Nadine on the other hand, I have no idea how anybody likes her after UC4. She wasn't interesting at all, and was basically an asshole (and not in the entertaining way). Seeing her as a co-protagonist of sorts here is weird; but I'll give the benefit of the doubt. I'm hoping they don't completely ignore the history (e.g. Chloe likes Nate, Nadine tried to have him killed repeatedly); not that the game has to FOCUS on Nate in any major way (actually it shouldn't) but I'd like to see that aspect at least addressed.

I was hoping for more epic, scripted and crazy set-pieces.. but it sounds like this game will be more "open-world" than UC4.
However, it will be good, no doubts.

Anyone notice at the end of UC4,
Nate's daughter was heading to india
. I feel like that might play into this.

and the development team is taking feedback from the last game, including more puzzles but less crates to help companion characters navigate the world.

Nope. I'm a huge Uncharted fan, but 4 disappointed me with how grounded, serious, and lacking in gunfights and set pieces it was. This looks to be even worse.

P.S. I hate puzzles.

We're excited to kick off a month of coverage on Naughty Dog's Uncharted: The Lost Legacy to coincide with our new cover story on the game. We have a lot of new details on the game in the cover story itself, but for a quick rundown of the team's vision of the game we sat down with creative director Shaun Escayg and game director Kurt Margenau. Learn what held Naughty Dog back from creating more large, open spaces in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and why they're excited about creating new, bold setpieces for players.

Watch the video below to learn more about the benefits of creating a game smaller than Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and what stage they're at right now in development.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
This DLC is a full game and got the attention it needs.

I don't think it's going to be full-length. It's been said to "fall between" Left Behind and Uncharted 4, which doesn't really offer much in the way of insight as the former is literally movie-length at ~2.5 hours while the latter is a massive ~15-hour adventure. I'm expecting around six hours -- much meatier than Left Behind but somewhat shorter than Drake's Fortune.

Yeah I was excited for this when it first announced 'cause I've always wanted Chloe to headline a game. But after Uncharted 4 and what seems to be Naughty Dog's new direction with the series I'm pretty lukewarm on this to be honest. Maybe when more concrete details of actual gameplay emerge I'll be onboard again but a whole lot of talk about story and puzzles doesn't sound too promising to me.

The only part I liked is when they smirked about the set pieces. Hopefully they have some good ideas.

Kinda disappointed that they're straying from the assumption that Chloe's Australian. I mean, the voice actor is, so I just made that leap. Liked having some representation of Aussies for a change but I'm willing to share Chloe's heritage with our Indian friends :p

Not really spoilers: Just talking about when this game takes place
This only takes place 6 months after Uncharted 4, that was probably just a hint at this DLC before it was annouced

Sounds pretty awesome.

My only slight, slight, slight concern is "more grounded." Like.... Uncharted 4 was plenty grounded for me. I loved it, but again, it was plenty grounded. High adventure is as big a part of the series DNA as the subtle, character driven moments. Hope they can keep the balance well.

I'm already in day 1 with my digital deluxe buy but this new info drop is sounding great.
The chemistry between Nadine and Chloe will hopefully be hilarious and a new dynamic for UC.

Also nice to see them reduce the crate puzzles :p

Now I hope ND make this a long ass stand alone experience, I'm talking 6-8 hours here!
I also think a few more "explosive" set pieces than UC4 would be nice, but probably too expensive haha.

Not sure if going more open-world is a good thing. I thought the levels/chapters in U4 were just good enough.

Good to hear that ND scrapped the Sam & Sully story. I love Sully, but Sam is just... ugh, easily my least favorite part of U4. So going for Chloe is a lot better (although, I don't really like Nadine that much either, so...)

No, we want it to be good, which is why we hope it's not like UC4.

UC4 wasn't bad at all. Mechanically, it was by far the best in the series. It had pacing problems and not enough of those wonderful combat sandboxes, but it was a whole lot better than the first and third game.

I didn't care much for Nadine but she did become more human towards the end of the game and hopefully the expansion builds on that.

I had pegged her as somewhat middle-eastern.

I wouldn't call it a retcon.

It's really great to see Sony putting the creative and game directors front and center, promoting from within and trusting these young guys with arguably their biggest franchise.

I also like that they hinted at U4's pacing problems and the story getting in the way of good gameplay. This gives me hope that ND isnt just living in a bubble and will take steps to remedy the awful platforming and no gameplay chapters in Uncharted 4.

The demo was unlike anything i've seen in an Uncharted game. While there was a lot of walking, it was very tense and very cinematic. The camera work and the atmosphere was masterful. These guys know what they are doing.

Glad to hear about more complicated puzzles, more setpieces, open areas and collectibles. U4 only had a couple of big open areas to explore and only one of them had any combat. They should've had optional tombs in Madagascar with physics based puzzles like tomb raider or combat trials like Horizon. Just make them dungeons, you go in and fight a boss or something. Make collectibles mean something. I loved collecting shit in TLOU because every little scrap helped.

It definitely needs to be longer than Left Behind though. I will be happy with a 4-5 hour campaign with at least two big setpieces and some decent physics based puzzles.

Yeah, same; doesn't bother me. I too thought she looked half middle eastern. With the accent I was figuring half middle eastern, half Australian. Might be a retcon in that they didn't say from the start, "Okay, she's half Indian". But I don't think this is something major that should bother anybody.
