Can someone please explain all the timed context-sensitive battle maneuvers?

Something about a dodge and flurry and a parry or something...

Every time I attempt something, no button pops up and I get one-shot.

If you dodge perfectly you get a chance to do a flurry attack.

You can also party with your shield the moment the enemy lands a hit.

Ah shit man. Been listening to some music from A link to the Past again like Hyrule over world, Dark world, Gerudo Valley and Kokiri Forest from OOT and I have to be honest.... I have yet to hear such a memorable tune in Breath of the Wild. As amazing as this game is and it really is, this is lacking for me. So far that is.

Music from Hateno is great but not like the above.

Go to the shrine in
Kakariko Village
. It'll teach you how to do all this stuff.

I gave up, but does eavesdropping in Hateno village
on the ladies
ever do anything?

I'm not sure if you're doing this already, but
if you sneak around behind the stand they are at and listen to them you can fully hear there gossip.
I don't think they say anything important though.

Horizontal attack -> Dodge backwards (LR+X+Down)
Vertical attack -> Dodge sideways (LR+X+Left/Right)

If you time this correctly time slows down and you can perform a counter attack.

Most (any?) attacks made against you with a weapon (ranged and non-ranged) -> LR+A (if you have a shield equipped and in your hand. Always the case with one-handed weapons, you have to put away two-handed weapons to use a shield) -> Parries the attack if you timed it right. In close combat it enables the same counter as above, projectile attacks are reflected.
Even Guardian Lasers
. Downside being that you get hit if you mess up the timing, whereas you usually still at least dodge attacks if you botch the timing with the dodges.

Absolutely one of the weakest points of the game.

The story beats implied the rain will stop eventually in
Zora's domain
right? I want to explore but I want the rain to stop first so right now I'm just marking stuff as I go past it.
Can anyone answer this? I'm feeling bad about leaving so much behind but I'll come back if the rain indeed does disappear.

Just finished the game after getting all memories and unlocking the beasts.

Damn what a journey.... this game has officially passed OoT in my book.

Some of the mobs in the final area are no joke. I used up all my healing items by the time I beat it.

Once you played a game for a certain time on Switch the text under the game in your profile will change from the "first time played X days ago" to a play count. I guess it is after 10 days.

He probably means the WiiU activity log.

Forgot about the WiiU version, I'm sure that's where the logged hours are coming from. I know it really doesn't matter, but it's annoying not being able to check time played. With the Switch being rushed I still don't understand how that couldn't have been included for the launch.

This
centaur
boss is really pissing me off.

The Lynel? It's not a boss, you're not supposed to fight it.

I dunno why so many people don't get that, the game makes it really really obvious that it wants you to sneak around it.

Its funny, as my set goals of the day were to find more Great Fairy Fountains. Half the day is gone and I haven't found a single one.

Not that I couldn't find them, but that I keep getting distracted by all the content.

Okay, so NOW im gonna find those fountains. Definitely...

I think I might be in the minority but I don't like riding horses though. Always on my feet, climbing things.
I'm 30+ hours in an I've ridden a horse once.
with the amount of fast travel spots, and the amount of inevitable climbing you need to do to really explore, riding horses feels completely pointless

I have only ever said this in responses about Platinum Games, but those complaining durability might be playing the game "wrong." I've done almost no story, but still have to pick and choose what weapons I want. I've got a couple awesome fire rods, electric rods, just picked up a really cool electric sword, a bad ass Lynel club, guardian weapons, and a giant boomerang. Yes, I'm empty handed in fights sometimes, but that's because I'd rather save my awesome ones for mini bosses, which are scattered everywhere, and just take the weapon of those in the immediate fight. An arrow to the face does more than a sword half the time, especially against the Yiga clan, and shock arrows for the tests of strength bots.

Extended battle theme is really good. The trumpets are hype inducing. Agree only Hateno has really stuck out besides that.

My Zelda progress-o-meter:

48.1 hours played.
3/4 Great Beasts
60/120 Shrines
81/900 Koroks found
Got the Master Sword
5/12 memories
36/83 creatures in compendium
46/78 monsters in compendium
30/36 materials in compendium
86/184 equipment in compendium
4/4 treasures in compendium

Here's mine.

Hours Played: No clue (Please add an activity log to the Switch Nintendo)
Divine Beasts: 3/4
Shrines: 82/120
Korok Seeds: 276/900
Memories: 9/12
Got the Master Sword
Compendium: No clue as I haven't been paying attention to it (I am snapping pictures of everything though). I do know that I have all 4 treasures registered.

It's been a week since I started up Zelda but the switch log still only says 7 days since I played it. Is the hours played not gonna work on my system?

Im embarrassed to see how much I've played this game.
