A dude brought bad optics to a business that relies almost solely on donations to survive and got essentially told "resign or we have to let you go" over it.

I don't get why that's hard to grasp.

Not getting it either. If somebody associated with Nike did the same shit Colin did and it got attention that person would be told to resign or be fired. It's not a hard concept people.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
He's gone on record that all he said was "He's smart" and people latched onto that as some confirmation that he's a big fan.

Because it's basic optics. You can say Hitler did a great job turning Germany into a world power but that isn't taking into context the rest of history. Not only that but people who tend to make these types of statements are rarely just trying to make a simple point at face value. It's better to probably not just say It all if that's all your are going to say.

It's a dumb joke, just like 'boys will be boys', 'Boys go to Jupiter
To get more stupider
Girls go to college
To get more knowledge!'

For Christ sake, he's not on an active war on women. JonTron on the other hand is a psychopath.

It was not about the tweet. The billionth time.

Holy shit people. You don't get to make up an argument to support the conclusion you came up with in advance.

Why did you spell the word "boy" wrong? Are you being a misogynist? *Am I doing this outrage thing correctly?*

Colin on the Glenn Beck show:

This move isn't surprising. He has been getting heavily into politics lately, and after being in video games for so long I can see why he would want to move on to a different passion in his life. Maybe he can get a radio show on The Blaze or SiriusXM Patriot.

"Colin, you are a liberal conservative living in San Francisco, how is that going""

"Obviously not very well!"

hmmmm, wow!

Politics aside, people who don't seem to enjoy or barely game shouldn't be hosts on gaming podcasts.

Some websites have a huge issue with this amount their personalities.

The dude had "Feminists are cunts" and "Fuck Islam" in his Twitter bio, I have no idea why anyone would listen to him. Calling feminists a sexist slur? Hating an entire religion comprised of more than one billion people? Why have people been defending the guy and saying that he's not so bad?

I'm here to bag on Colin too, but that wasn't even his profile.

Let's keep it honest, he's provided plenty of material without resorting to making it up.

This. You're not just rando douche on twitter anymore. You're a face and personality of a business wherin your face and personality is part of your business and it's selling point.

If you're going to say something you have to say something of substance or just let things go and say nothing.

Greg literally said on stream that this wasn't about the tweet, it was about them growing apart for a long time.
Fuck. No.
I had no idea, maybe I don't pay enough attention over how or what was really going on.
But from watching / listening to the content I did not see this at all.
But I believe you

I'm surprised why some can't seem to grasp this.
I apparently had no idea it was this "bad" outside of the one tweet.
You're asking for him to say sorry. He had all the time in the world to say he was sorry, and chose to leave his workplace instead. It wasn't taken too far, he clearly meant it. I think it's more that his baits and trolls had become a pattern, and his outrage at outrage culture had itself become the very thing he hated.
Apparently. :O

Unfortunately in situations like this you are dealing with a lot of people who have the world view of "I can say what I want about whoever I want whenever I want and you just have to deal with it otherwise you are just a snowflake, SJW, femnazi cuck" and don't actually understand how the world works because they've never been out in it.

A dumb joke intended to troll certain people on a specific day and when he got the reactions he was looking for, he doubled down and called them humourless shitbags.

But it's OK, because it's just a joke right?

I like Colin. He's funny, he can carry a conversation, and he has loads of insight in the games industry. Do I agree with his politics? No. Do I even agree with all of his game related opinions? No. But the incessant shit posting whenever he or Kinda Funny is brought is just straight up weird. You don't like Colin, fine. You don't think Tim and Greg are funny, fine. But this obsessive hate boner people have for them that's allowed to just run rampant here is just flat out gross. All the "good riddance", "he's a fucking cunt", "why do people even like them anyway" horseshit that's getting flung around is petty and embarrassing, and for all the shit some of you like to give Colin for the things he says, you'd think you'd be self aware enough to not be so needlessly aggressive and childish about it. I'm not going to sit here and pretend that he's innocent in all of this, but damn, y'all are being extra about it.

Mini-rant aside, I'm sad to see him go. The podcasts won't be the same without him, but I'm confident that Greg, Tim, Nick, and whatever guests they bring on will be just fine.

Gutted, to be honest. I just wish he was staying in the industry so I was able to continue to hear his candid thoughts on the industry, rather than the regurgitated BS that comes from most other sources.

Bingo. Alt right views, "anti-sjw" views, pro-GamerGate views, and the like are toxic to this fandom.

Video Games are primarily made by techies who are overwhelmingly progressive and for inclusion and embracing of other cultures. The views of Colin are vastly opposed to the wider community. It is why GameGate was such a toxic mess and embarrassment for the community.

KF could not continue as long as Colin insisted on spreading his views which were toxic to the wider gaming community.

Colin's seems happier than he has been in months, happy as in a giant burden has been lifted from his shoulders despite leaving the company and selling his shares.

Glad he thinks PS I Love you should still continue. I think it needs a new format but no need to cancel imo.

Wow. Very sudden it seems like.

That said, Colin seems like a smart guy and makes some really good insights into the games industry. Unfortunately I find him incredibly abrasive and smug, and not in a loveable kind of way. I mean the name of his (old) show Colin is Right, while obviously an in joke to some extent, summarizes his attitude nicely. Plus his politics are pretty depressing from my point of view at least.

Just look at the crazy shit that's going on of late, people smashing up a college because of a speaker, the left is becoming less and less what they should stand for.

You mean the left who smashed things up for civil rights in the past? Some of you need to stop with this reductionist spin already

Man, as someone who doesn't follow the new wave of these weird YouTube personality based game companies, this shit is all so confusing to me.

I tried watching this video of him and Jason Schrieier (sp?) talk together and realized it was 1h45m long.

Who has the time for these guys? Don't people have games to play instead of listening to other people talk about them?

He was a good majority of the reason I watched KF (when I remembered to). Met Greg once, very cordial dude and loved the dynamic between him and Colin, but his shtick is not my thing. Don't mean to disparage but the rest of the staff are just filler to me.

To get to your question, I listen to a LOT of podcasts on either YT or other sources. Most of them are 2-3 hours long each episode. The JRE podcast is a prime example of why I enjoy long podcasts with a diverse (by trade, not by social aspects) guest list. There are tons of great examples of people/groups who provide engaging content. I suppose it's not for everyone but if you love long conversations with friends, I would think longform podcasts would be enticing. I could share some if you'd like.

Side note: There are some really close-minded opinions in here. I'm not sure what I was expecting with GAF but some folks need to strive in practicing what they preach.

He doesn't. But his tweet is not all that far from "Like him or hate him, Hitler actually had a few good ideas."

Calling someone smart is not the same as agreeing or siding with them. Evil people can be smart, I'm sorry to say. I mean they have to be to weasel their way in to that kind of power, it's our job to educate the people they take advantage of.

Had a feeling this would happen sooner or later. When you're primarily funded through donations it's probably not a good idea to have a dude that violently divides your community. Calling the people who give you money to eat "humorless sacks of shit" for a lame shitty tweet doesn't help much either.

And this whole fiasco isn't about that one tweet it's the fact that the dude is just too much of an ass that it's harming everyone else.

I've worked with community managers at public companies fired for far less stupid shit.

Guys, all he did was make a dumb and unfunny joke. What's the bi-

I'm kidding, don't kill me GAF.

It'd be cool to see him stay on PSILY but I doubt that will happen. If he doesn't stay, I wonder who would be a good fit for the show. Definitely not anyone currently at KF, except maybe Kevin.

Honestly I can't see how anyone can get that upset about the joke tweet, also if they even knew anything about Colin he loves and respects his girlfriend and his sister played a massive role in bringing him up. I wonder if at 34 I'm just out of touch with the outrage culture and I'm a labour voting NHS loving left leaning lover of people.

Im tottally with you. I am 30 and I can't understand why if you don't agree with me on social media you are a devil and a evil person. Social media is a cancer to society. I vote liberal/ndp up here in Canada. However, I can have a civil discussion with right leaning people. Not everything is black and white or equal like the social media culture wants to make it out to be. There is just so much hate spewed.

Really didn't like him at IGN either. Gated his approach to games and reviews. He comes off as an over entitled Douche.

Opinions aside, interesting avenue of life he has taken. May very well suit him.
