Playtonic unveils Yooka-Laylee (Banjo Kazooie successor) [Kickstarter LIVE - Funded]

Paid for a PC copy on KS, but yeah I think I'll be buying and playing/beating this on Switch instead.

I mean unless it reaaaaally sucks, in which case I just won't spend more money on it and just play the PC version down the line.

Anyone know if this already happened or is still happening?

It's most likely already in and it's not like they could replace his character's VA that quickly. They also may have done a contract of some sort with him.

Before reflexively trying to invent excuses for why they might keep him on, I think it would be wise to first find out if they are keeping him on.

How is that inventing excuses? Saying that disregards that the game has already gone gold, and that everything had been taken care of. The person you responded to isn't making excuses, she's/he's being realistic.

Maybe it'll be a mission where his character asks you to exterminate another species.

Only to get crapped on by multiple species for being a "specieist"? That would be such a Rare thing to do lol.

In a world where day one patches are commonplace, "the game has already gone gold" is not just an excuse but a poor one.

I've tried tweeting at them so we'll see if they respond.

Their official forums appear to require validation.

While day 1 patches are a thing, completely redoing someone's VO work is nontrivial, so acting like they can just put it in on day 1 is ridiculous.

Why would they just be doing it now? Why wouldn't they have done it ages ago when JonTron first started saying extremely dubious stuff?

The game is not out yet, of course they could cut it. If they want to.

Were it me, I'd be willing to go to extreme lengths to remove a white supremacist from a creative work I was planning on releasing.

Any update?
I changed my digital WiiU copy for a physical PS4 version. When does this game come out? Can't wait (to play it after Zelda lol)

It's only a poor "excuse" in your eyes because you're focusing solely on the fact that JonTron is a shithead and disregarding everything else (game production ended, possible contractual obligations to name a few, and no matter what you say, they are legitimate). To suggest that a VO can be changed in a Day 1 patch is very silly considering what Day 1 patches are designed for.

And yet, you also have nothing to presume its an unpaid cameo as well.

And while I'm trying my best to find out what's going on, you don't seem the least bit interested in gathering facts.

If it is, in fact, a paid role, that would be even more troubling from my point of view.

Why does it matter so much at this point. If it's in there oh well. If it's not in there great.

I highly doubt that guy was scrambling his brain to make up something as basic as "these two parties may have a contract" in an attempt to defend JonTron.

Do you or do you not think it would be a good thing to get official word from Playtonic?

If yes, then we are on the same side and should be working together. If not, then please make that position clear.

Naturally, and you said you tweeted them so it'll be good to hear back even though I wouldn't be surprised if they don't address it immediately. I'm just saying that one guy saying they might have a contract doesn't sound like making up excuses for Jon to me, I'm not trying to attack your points or anything.

If its a paid role, it would've been done months ago, quite possibly even earlier, and could very likely pre-date the recent events involving JonTron. Considering the game recently went gold, and that this JonTron stuff is a month old (if that), then getting mad that he may have received compensation for his work, as well as having a contract signed for said work, is merely an exercise in futility.

But, as these things always go, I imagine his work will be removed from the game if it is in there as soon as these things are brought to their attention if its within their reasonable ability to do so. Just the way these things always go in today's political climate.

Yikes, JonTron is in this game? I can not morally or monetarily support Yooka-Laylee day one, even tho Banjo-Kazooie is among my favorite games of all time, unless this is addressed.

I feel like something big has completely passed me by as I have no idea who this jontron fella is.

*goes to google*

Edit: I see there's a whole thread about him 😂

Now I just need to decide, do I get it on the Switch or on PC?

Unity and consoles don't really get along well owing to their poor CPUs and the Switch brings up the rear in that regard. If consistent performance is important, you'll want the PC version.

Wow its not like he is making the game. He was hired months ago to do a voice on an indie game.

Come on now, this is going way overboard lol.

Do not blame the devs if Jon wasn't the shithead he is now back in 2015. He's good friends with Grant Kirkhope too (or at least I still think he is?)

The game is less than a monath away from being in stores, discs are probably already being pressed. Now, they cannot do it. I also don't think they should, who cares who "gulpgulpgulp"s in the game.

they can probably always patch the game and give you the option to disable the voice. That way white supremacist gamers can enjoy it too.

I understand some people may not want this but I really hope things don't go too far and this ends up harming the game's sales. It's not like he is part of the team or something, he was a persona, they used his voice, I guess they can patch it but I hope people won't make a big deal of it if they don't.

Plenty of people on this very page have said they care.
To care enough for one presumably unpaid voice over work to make such a fuss over it is quite the thing though. From the brief impression I got of Jontron, the problem seems to be he has some racist views, but what bearing do those views have on the game? He did not design any levels, he did not write the story, he did not come up with the mechanics and some gulpgulpgulp will certainly not convey any racist content. Now if the story writer was a racist, I could understand some caution, but we are merely talking brief cameo of the voice itself here.

That would be the problem, yes.

If you're lacking the context behind this I encourage you to listen to the full youtube interview. This is not diet racism, this is full on Stormfront quality white nationalism. Perhaps then you will understand why some people might take issue with his participation in any form.

If Jontron's voice is in the game, I will not buy it.

If it is not, I will buy it because I want to play it.

That's my position and I don't think I'm the only one. Do I care enough for you?
