Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

We need info... almost 4 months now.

Seems like the rumors weren't lying about Marvel Entertainment taking down any X-Men/F4 art from their offices. I guess they didn't put them back up in light of Marvel & Fox's improving relationship.
The mutans haven't appear in promotional art for some time (you must know that lol)
I was surprised to see some of them in "secret empire" and "generations" teasers.

I'm aware of that, but it's still weird seeing more evidence of that showing up in their own offices. Hopefully that changes going forward.

As for Secret Empire, we had X-Men featured in Civil War II & the F4 being front-&-center for Secret Wars.

Yep, hopefully we see more things that show how their relationship has advanced.

Well, that art is definitely MCU-centric, so who knows what other art they have put up in the Marvel offices

I think it's kind of silly to treat that as confirmed based off of one picture that is clearly just MCU focused.

If I recall, that's where that one big Marvel mural used to be. I believe there was another image showing the same wall art last year.

Ono posing with a Blanka toy near a poster only tells us he was at Marvel HQ. Anything else is probably reading into it more than we should. It's Ono.

I feel like we may get drips of news leading up to the blow-out at E3, EVO, & SDCC like what happened with SFV (except much more condensed thanks to it being currently scheduled for Late 2017).

I wonder if we are really going to see the game being released this year, they have like 6 months to promote it and we have 0 new info after the reveal.

Well, they released RE7 in a brief period of time after the E3 announcement.

Like you said, RE7 had a relatively quick turn-around between announcement & launch, and that turned out to be awesome. I wouldn't put it past Capcom to have MvCI ready for the holidays, especially if the game's been in development since 2015.

This is one of the few times where I'd say just wait. Fortunately Ono already posted a teaser to get the fire burning again after a long period of silence.

Some people are skeptical regarding lack of news. A 2017 fighting game release to get no periodic announcements is definitely a bit concerning. I also had that sentiment and began to wonder why that was the case. Was the game undergoing issues? Did they just announce it too early? Will it be delayed?

I talked with Combofiend actually when he came Hackerfight around less than a month ago. I wasn't trying to seriously wrangle information (other than asking if "My Boy" is back, in which he just dodged the question very gracefully). I did ask him about the concerning silence regarding announcements.

The answer he gave me is that they really don't want to fuck things up this time. They don't want to pull a SFV launch so they are much more careful this time to not step on any egg shells. They rather be silent and plan.

He does have a hand in this game, and Combofiend + Marvel is good math by my book. It's at least to keep a cynical person like me optimistic.
Just some thoughts I'd spill.

I hope we do get the game this year but I wouldn't be mad if it gets delayed a few months to get things right.

Well, that's to be expected, they don't need backlash right now after what happened with SF5's sales.

Resident Evil really could just use its own fighting game it has enough fantastic characters to do it. They can even throw in Regina as a guest
in the background

I hope Mr. X (T-00 series Tyrant) makes it into this. Have its Level 3 be a transformation into full blown tyrant mode would be a great Resident Evil villain representative.

As mentioned before, Jack Baker's inclusion would likely depend on if the MvCI crew was in the loop about RE7 (which is entirely possible) given how recently RE7 came out. If the MvCI team was kept aware of RE7's development & foresaw Jack Baker being popular (like Sakurai called Greninja's popularity before it happened), then yeah, I could see him getting in.

Good list from Maximilian, I would prefer Bass over Protoman though.

I don't dislike Leon but I feel that he's everywhere (he'll show up once again in the new RE CG film). It's true that REmake 2 should be "closer" to release so a rep from that game could be a good/smart to promote it, Claire would be better just to not see Leon one more time lol.

I'm actually partial to Bass and Claire too, even though I do like Protoman and Leon.

I don't think this will have as much RE2 as people think. Capcom should more than likely either rep 6, Rev 2, or 7. REmake 2 is still being made and is further out from release, like 2018-2019.

So if Leon made it in, he'd be looking like his vendetta/6 self. With probably an RPD costume.

Max also thinks Sentinel is coming back for some reason.

I think RE will be capped at three characters this go around, and I think Wesker is a guarantee due to his popularity, so for the other two I'm guessing Chris and either Jill or Claire.

I really, really want Leon though. Personally I want Leon and Jill/Claire and I'd forego Wesker for that, but I think he'll be there as a major Capcom villain for Story Mode.

Sounds to me like a coy way of saying they're waiting for the game's look to improve. Which is fair.

If you're talking about the video, it was likely for that gag. I'm not sure if we should read too much into it.

If they replace Chris with Leon that would be fine. Protoman would be a nice way to include the classic series and a "new" character. They could make Zero his MMZ iteration, too.

Sentinel coming back? I know that Capcom pushed for him back in 3 but I'd prefer someone like Cyclops, Psylocke or Gambit over Sentinel.

I see RE having 3 reps, Wesker is the most probable one to return IMO, maybe Jill too. As for a new rep, Leon/Claire or Jack could happen.

Wait, did Max mention Sentinel during the stream, or are you guys talking about him using Sentinel in the video?

Either way, of all the X-Men characters to add as DLC (supposedly), I'm not sure if Sentinel should have top priority. I'd honestly prefer the likes of Nightcrawler, Magik, Cyclops, Psylocke, & the Maximoff Twins (yes, they're Avengers, but their X-Men ties were holding them back from recent games) over Sentinel.

It was fine during the ps2 era, it is fine now
Besides didnt the original mvc3 have the usual modes i mentioned? I recall it having a gallery mode too at least

We're not in last gen though. Looking at the best selling Fighters now, it's kinda obvious what they need.
Yes you don't have to have SP mode to have a "successful" or fun fighting game. But you're definitely helping yourself get more money by having such as opposed to not having those things.

Vanilla Marvel 3 was pretty barebones too, even compared to TvC (Which actually had a half decent amount of unlockables and single player content going for it)

REmake 2 isn't necessarily so far away. Whilst it's possible that development is slow, the fact that we haven't gotten a trailer or information on it is easily explained by RE7 having just come out and not wanting to mix the marketing. It's unlikely but entirely possible that the game could be shown off at E3 for a holiday release.

I'll be very surprised if its this holiday.
