Persona 5 ships over 1.5 million copies worldwide

That is seriously impressive. Especially considering this is a Japanese af, turn-based JRPG.

Looks like we'll be getting 5 spinoff titles with those kind of sales.

Old data. WW sales of the Persona series was at 6.9 million as of November 2016. So it'd be more like a 5th now. Still neat.
It's because it's old data that it shows how much Persona 5 has sold.
New data combines P5's japan sales. I wanted sales data from before it launched.

Impressive. Gonna have to wait till summer cause this game is so long. Been needing a good turn base RPG

Persona is reminding me of Fire Emblem, in terms of reaching a bigger audience, although different situations.

That is crazy.

Well at least the sales curve fits the development curve.

Persona 1 to to Persona 2 was 3 years. Persona 2 to Person 2-2 was 1 year. Digital Devil Saga 1 (the last game Hashino directed before P3) to Persona 3 was 2 years. Persona 3 to Persona 4 aws 2 years.

Catherine (the last game Hashino directed before P5) to Persona 5 was almost 6 years. Lol.

Oh wait no it doesn't. If we assume it took 2 years to develop Persona 1. The development time for P5 is 50% of the development time of the entire franchise! Hahahahaha.

I don't get it. Taking the number that P5 sold and comparing it to the total number of Persona series sales would still give you the appropriate fraction for how much it has sold relative to total series sales. It's still 1/5 as of now, not 1/4.

Edit: Oh wait, I was misunderstanding. I think I see what you mean now.

Only six hours in but well deserved. I can't get over how much I love this game. SMT4A last year and P5 this year was a killer combo by Atlus. Great time for Megaten fans.

So proud of Atlus and Persona. I remember picking up P2 back in the day, and I never expected the series to become as popular as it us now.

Hopefully the mainline SMT games become popular & successful as Persona one day.

I am so glad for Atlus. Really having a blast working through the game myself, and I hope everyone else that picked it up or will be picking it up enjoys it just as much, if not more. I'm hoping for it to maintain a healthy tail, too... Been rooting for this game since its announcement.

I say all this having gotten my start with the series with Persona 3 FES. Never really went back and checked out Persona 1 or 2, admittedly FES didn't capture me a ton -- I appreciated it but didn't really get super into it. Persona 4 got me, though, big time -- and that's without ever having seen any of Giant Bomb's endurance run, despite having been a fan of that site since its opening (during the time that it was happening, I was still kind of only looking into GB for "traditional" coverage -- I ignored the extra video features and what not back then).

That said, it has been a grueling wait, since P5 has very consistently been my MOST anticipated game since its announcement. I loved the red/black art style from the very beginning, loved the idea of moving that fantastic P4-style experience to a big modern city, and of course seeing the detail come to life in HD quality following the original PS2 release of P4 (although I do acknowledge that it looks quite behind on PS4 from a technical perspective, I do feel the style does go a long way making up for it).

It's very much paying off. Bravo, Atlus.

PersonaGAF, hope you all are enjoying the game a lot, too -- we finally got it! :)

Me too. I won't be able to play Persona until I get through Nier, but I have my copy sitting here waiting to be played.

I haven't bought neither actually. Not cause I don't want, but cause I can't right now. But these were two of my most wanted games this gen (specially P5, cause Nier Automata was more of a surprise). I'm really glad to see both JRPGs doing so well though, and I'm 100% sure I'll buy them as soon as I can.

Welp, I predicted 1.5m lifetime units sold so this just blew right past that. Great fucking job, P-Team.
With a portable remake (Switch?) it might even get to 3m. For a Persona game. That's just crazy to think about.

Unless the anime style turns you off completely then there is no reason to skip over this. It isn't just a good JRPG, it's a great RPG and game in general. Bigger JRPGs like FFXV have like 1/10th of the soul that Persona 5 does.

Do it. Especially if you play for story, it's damn good

I'm not a big anime fan, but it certainly doesn't turn me off. I just want a good, engaging RPG. I might just do it!

I fully recommend it, game deals with some heavy shit and I'm only 10 hours in.... Only like 90 more to go and I'm fully pumped for all of those hours

Eeeesh. That's pretty insane, when you put it that way.

Well. Obviously this just means that they should take another 6-7 years to lovingly make P6.
