Incredibly Naive
Meh, lame, mediocre, shit, terrible etc. aren't really great descriptors for expressing what you don't like about the individual elements of the game though. They're just different words for bad, and you can't tear something down eloquently or--and this is more important--constructively using "bad" alone.

And for people who do like those elements, it's just not very enlightening.

The reviews do a very good job of breaking down why they don't like the game. Again it's fine if you're a fan, but it was pretty clear for a while now this game was destined for mediocrity. The beta was a nightmare.

I really wouldn't call it mediocrity.

It's niche for sure, and by design, but I wouldn't call it bad.

It tried to do a thing and it did that thing. It's an old school MP shooter at its core, and with that comes the skill gap that goes with it.

Unfortunately I bet a lot of the people that review this are likely awful at the game and aren't having fun after only playing a few hours, considering it's usually just your skill that gets you through it and to actually get the hang of it takes a while to learn all the ins and outs.

I downloaded this the other day, and I've only had time to mess around in the shooting range. I'm not sure how to feel about the gameplay, it feels a little rough, but I'm not totally put off by it. I've got a feeling that when I finally jump into online play, I'll get stomped, which is fine--but hopefully the learning curve isn't too steep. Even if the learning curve is pretty steep, I'm glad I got it for free via PS+. I'd be willing to put some time into it if I find myself enjoying it.

Now having seen the game's total aesthetic in action, I think it's very fun. It's possibly the most unabashedly crass and juvenile art style in a game that I've ever seen and played, but that's the point. The taunts/memes that you equip on your profile are all lame, but again--that's the point. It fits the over the top edgelordy style.

I just have one major complaint, and it's not even gameplay related. Where is Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal? Drawn to Death is a game that is perfect for a character like Sweet Tooth. There's not even any TM inspired skins, but there's God of War skins. This leads me to believe that Sweet Tooth is going to be added as a playable character DLC sometime in the future, and I'd be all over that. Even if I ended up dropping this, I'd come back in a heartbeat if Sweet Tooth was added in as a playable character.

The game is garbage, it's not hard to understand at all. It's always amazing to me how people can see why something is viewed poorly or different compared to their own view.

At least you're capable of understanding WHY people don't like this. For me it's not even the terrible humor. It's just not a great game. The art is hard on the eyes and the game would be better without it. The mechanics are meh along with the gameplay.

You don't like this. Cool, interesting to noone but cool, whatever. Why do you keep coming back to a thread for a game you aren't interested in?

JRPG seems cheap as hell - haven't used it myself though so maybe there's a downside I'm not seeing. Cyborgula and Diavala seem to have powerful abilities, again though not used them so not sure how difficult they are to hit.

For me when I was struggling it was because I wasn't using my abilities enough. I use Johnny Savage and his abilities seemed really bad at first but I just needed to force myself to get used to using them right.

I also like Caroline (sniper rifle) but that obviously depends on playstyle/aim.

It's really preference as far as weapon. I have been using the laser and the JRPG. Both are strong in my opinion. For characters, they are all fairly complicated to use, especially if you want to really improve with them. I like cyborgula. The ability to fly in and lay down some damage as well as fly out/away from damage put you at a big advantage.

I feel like the military guy is a pretty good choice for beginners. His drone and rocket launcher are pretty easy to use and apply to every situation + his jump (slide and jump to jump much higher) are decent. The 2 specials are not so hit & miss like a lot of other abilities. My biggest problem is that I don't use my full skillset yet. The military guy helped me to get the flow of 2 main weapons + use 2 specials, then slowly building up the skillset for the right situation.

I use him with assault weapon + rocket launcher. Drop in, set drone, jump high in the air, fire rocket launcher, jump, fire special rocket launcher, finish off with assault weapon. Really beginner friendly.

Four 1v1 ranked matches in a row where I get disconnected just as I'm about to get the final kill for the win. Not sure if it was hosts bailing or just bad luck, but man that was infuriating.

Having a blast with this game, though. Nice to have something to pull me away from Titanfall for a while.

Not an ideal solution, but you could use the PS4 accessibility settings to swap L1 and X. Once you've saved a preset like that and added Accessibility to your quick menu it's really quick to turn it on/off
Didn't think of this, it could be a good stop gap. Thanks!

You abandon a game because you jump with x instead of L1 etc? Hmkay, pretty sure that game won't see you back then, even if they would implement it^^
With certain types of games I have most definitely abandoned them if the input/controls are off. Due to the competitive, skill based nature of Drawn to Death I expect the control schemes and options relating to that to be on point as the way you interact is vital. Given that even low-skill ceiling shooters almost always offer a myriad of options these days - never mind the likes of Overwatch which offer total remapping - I'd expect at least a few different schemes and maybe a couple of acceleration curves/dual zones.

Maybe you're on the defensive as it seems DtD has garnered something of a negative reaction here but I do not believe mine is an unreasonable opinion to have and my gripes could be addressed with not too much effort from the developers if they're open minded enough to hear and act upon them.

There is a lot I like about DtD; the artstyle and core gameplay are appealing but much has been said about that already so I choose instead to contribute to the discussion something that hasn't. Hope that's okay and understandable?

Because I can? It's a discussion forum about gaming, so I'm discussing a game I don't like. When I see people doing mental gymnastics as to why negative opinions are wrong or reviews are just people who aren't good at the game, I feel compelled to respond.

Okay, I haven't played Diabla yet. Can her hat go through walls or some crap? I saw her trajectory target me from the other side of a building, and then hit.

Haven't used her but I think it has quite a strong homing lock so it probably followed you round a corner or something. Or lag.

Had a match where Alan was shooting me through the walls. Need some fixin'
This sounds like lag, had a few weird things happen in laggy games (which are rare, fortunately).

Ended up playing this game all day and got to #4 in the daily leaderboards. Thought I'd be getting over it by now but the more I play the more I want to play! Game is so great, a real surprise treat.

They have a secret map? Seems strange for a mp shooter

Reviewed do surprise me, at times giving good scores to games that many didn't like and vice versa.

As for the low page count on this game the op was late, had a few pages go to the random thread and had a lot of off topic stud in the first op so technically we were probably moving faster than some games at some points.

A lot of people just need to try the game is I'd say.. And it would be doing better I believe.

Does anyone know how to do Broncos in air slam down attack? I have it as one of my mission and I have 0 clue. Dont see any info on how to use that attack at all.

It's a nice little time waster for me. It has glaring issues though.

I simply do not understand why movement and animations are so damn bad.

I tried this in the beta and it wasn't very fun.

Have this downloaded but have yet to even boot it up, but I love the art style.

I love David Jaffe and GoW1 is one of favourite games of all time. Would love to see him get back into directing AAA games.

So I got frozen in mid-air above the water on Flood. When I broke out, I couldn't move properly and got quickly killed. Then I respawned and got stuck in freefall. Had to watch the game get finished without me. Now I'm stuck in the "drawing cool stuff" loading screen.

And I'm to understand that this game had a beta? Then again, so did Battlefield 1, and that game is even worse about menu issues, and on a much bigger budget.

Game has a lot of issues. I think the biggest they need to fix is matchmaking, and stat.

I have a buddy up in Canada, and I am out in Colorado. We can join a pre game lobby together, but we can't even do private matches together, let alone online MMing.

That said, when in the game it is a blast, and it is one of those easy to pick up hard to master types which is great. Plenty of uniqueness to it, good maps, cool characters, announcer, etc etc.

However, next up on the issues portion would be balance. Some characters just seem super lack luster compared to others, and certain guns seem to be a whirlwind of getting shit on vs others.

Question: Whatever weapon you leave for a purple pick up I assume gets stat boosts? Also, there is two different versions of JRPG, so you could have one as a secondary and one as your purple pick up? Seems ridiculous.

killing with melee only
?

I've done it twice with no unlock. I really want the reward.

Do you have to use the sphinx riddle to activate the ability to unlock something via specific action or can you just do the action regardless and unlock? Would kinda make purchasing whatever it is the Sphinx has to give for 10 keys pointless.

10 keys awakens the sphinx. The sphinx then offers you special missions or "riddles" that, when completed, unlock certain items that cannot be obtained any other way (sans the $10 all weapons bundle, I think, but there's more than just weapons locked behind the sphinx).

Cool. Will save up 10 keys for those righteous fun... I mean for the Sphinx. Ahem

Just finished up some matches with a fellow gaffer and got caught up reading all the weapon descriptions and text convos with Amy about the characters. It's a shame so many people are turned off by the writing, I find it actually charming and thoughtful here especially

Those cell phone messages man. The game is really charming, it just doesn't seem that way from the outside and I can see why. Too bad people won't give it a chance. Was fun playing with you man.

I'm not super impressed with this honestly, just feels kinda slow and floating. The art style is great but the "attitude" for a lack of a better word could really be tuned down a lot and just let me focus on the actual game. I like long time to death shooters but I just wasn't digging the core gameplay.

Have you tried playing with a friend that isn't awful? That's where the game shines really.

Good grief. I'm only two stars from 25 and for the past 5 minutes the game has been trying to put me in a game vs two players lvl 23 and 22 while I get a lvl 1 teammate. Yeah, that's a no.

If you get just one kill with melee does it unlock? And can't shoot?
I don't know if you have to win or not, just make sure all your kills are from the standard R3 melee attack. You can still use your other weapons/abilities as long as you don't kill with them.

Which characters/weapons are you having trouble with? I thought Johnny Savage was trash for a LONG time until I mastered his Devil's Riff ability.

That said, there are definitely some balance issues, Cyborgula, Jackhammer and JRPG seem particularly overpowered.

Have you "activated" the quest? You have to press x on it to accept the challenge.

To be fair playing with a friend wont make the game less floaty :p

And I prefer playing alone on this game, TDM is the weakest game mode imo.

OTs aren't safe haven circle jerks, people should be allowed to voice their issues with the game.
Of course people can criticize the game, but that guy keeps returning to the OT for a game he isn't interested in, that's just kinda sad?

He's free to voice his opinions, he's not free from being called out for posting garbage like "The art is bad. The maps are bad. The abilities are bad. The game is bad. Why can't you people see that this game is bad?"

By comparison, here's what a fair criticism of the game looks like:

And I bet this guy doesn't lurk the thread for several days just for the sake of shitting on the game.

Congrats :)

And the nice thing is that 25 is a checkpoint, so you can keep playing ranked without worrying about your... rank.

What's your MMR at btw?

It's a little above 1700. Not entirely sure how it works though. Does it just keep going up? Is there a limit? What does it measure?

Damn, nice, haven't seen any solo players that high, I'm around 1650 ATM

It's some kind of skill rating used for matchmaking. In general it goes up when you win and down when you lose, although it depends on what ratings the other players have as well (it's possible to win and still lose rating if your opponents are much lower rated).

Any suggestions to which character and weapon to use? Right now Im having a hard time finding a weapon Im comfortable with.
Russian Jackhammer is my main-weapon and works really well. Using the Panzerfaust in second slot because it reminds me of playing Quake 3 - lol. Might check out that JRPG-weapon because it seems to be really strong.

I play as Bronco. He is very straight forward shooting guy and easy to handle. His healing ability is nice, too.

Gave this a shot earlier and couldn't make it past the tutorial. Game just isn't for me. The jump had barely any animation to it was was jarring, the attitude and humour isn't for me even though I can appreciate the odd try-hard edgy character (like I find Reaper hilarious in Overwatch) and the shooting just didn't feel great to me.

I admit though, the notebook doodle style is cool and looks better in game than it does in images. Just a shame I don't like what the doodles are of, or the tone.

I'd at least try a few matches man. I wasn't feeling it at first either.

I put a decent amount of time into it. I got used to the animations and shooting but they ultimately feel imprecise at best so don't expect much.

The tone is divisive. I liked it more than I expected, however the taunts and skins aren't clever or funny (mostly) - and the announcer quickly becomes annoying after the first few unexpected lines.
