If it's true that the flight was not overbooked and that they used, regardless if done intentionally or not, a similar name with a criminal record to run a smear campaign...
There is no recovering from this.
I love how pretty much everyone agrees that he should sue the fuck out off them.

He rightfully deserves a payday, but it's also kinda insane to think how a couple people doing ridiculously bad at their job can cost a company a fortune. That's a little scary to me to be honest.
So the victim blaming backfired from people being sick of 'journalists' victim blaming; and it may backfire even more because they didn't even dig up the right dirt and then ran with it anyway? This is absolutely delicious if true. Hope this backfires so hard that it finally puts an end to this disgusting practice. Anybody on that plane could've called upper management or even the police to stop what was happening, or just offered more money for somebody to debark. They didn't because of their training and the company culture, and that's made more clear by the immediate support they got from United's PR team and upper management.
The whole company is liable because the whole company is culpable. If they had immediately apologized, said what happened was wrong and not what United stands for, and fired some people they'd be a lot less liable. But they didn't.

A big part of why this whole situation is so bad for UA is how their CEO reacted. He defended the actions of the employees responsible, and then started victim-blaming by accusing the doctor of being belligerent.
Plus, the doctor was dragged off the plane due to shitty policies. The altercation can't solely be blamed on some rogue individuals.
Plus, UA have a history of abysmal customer service/scandals.
Don't shed any tears for UA; they brought this on themselves.

United Airlines - When you do get taken to court over this, save some money by not bothering with lawyers, and just get some lube instead. The latter will at least help you.

Physically dragging a passenger out of his seat and knocking his head against the armrest is something else entirely. It's not like those two guys acted alone, it went through the chain of command and they represent the company. The airline flat out deserves to go out of business for this shit.

He doesn't even need to be SS to get a massive fucking payday from this. Any decent lawyer has mountains of ammunition, especially with the recent statements and false reports, to bleed out United for years and years.
Between the lawsuit and the legendary PR hit I honestly see them being dead within 5-10 years. Can't remember the last time an airline had a PR disaster like this.

Yep. Weren't they initially praised for what they did? They expect to be allowed to do this.
Just the idea of offering a voucher, and then jumping straight to using force, when the next flight won't get there until the next day shows contempt for the customers.

Fuck United, I will never fly them ever again (only did once years ago and unfortunately it was not my choice). It was by far the worst flight I've had in my life both domestically and internationally. I even wrote to them for how bad the flight was and all I got was a BS "apology" letter.
Even if United was a cheaper way to go to my destination, I would pay *more* to a different airline altogether just to avoid them. Such a trash airline.
