Rime Creative Director: "Reading Neogaf made me cry for two days"

Isnt that more because the game somehow is more expensive on other plattforms?

I mean besides that I didnt see any negativity concerning that game here.

He has a point, I would love to see Neogaf be more like a dictatorship than democracy.

And Im not joking.

I mean it's kind of hard not to be negative when the supposed inside information about this game, and company, were extremely grim.

I will say, I work in PR myself and have to wade through the trenches of online comments... it gets rough enough just doing it as a job (I work for a city government). I can't imagine how rough it must be when you're working on a passion project that people are just tearing apart without giving a proper chance.

Major props to some of the known devs and community managers that frequent GAF like Rob from Zeboyd.

I'll make the developers of Blues and Bullets cry

I bought that season pass and its been nearly 2 years without a new episode!

It's tough to work in the game industry and know that a lot of money-spending fans out there are actual psychotics, or man-children with zero perspective.

Though I imagine the professional sports world is much the same.

Wait, people were mad and hated on Rime?

Poor guy. I was (and still am) upset about the Switch price difference thing. But aside from that, I've always been really excited for the game. :/

I wish people remembered that developers are people just like you and they're trying their hardest to make something to bring people joy. Sometimes that doesn't work out.

Were we uncharacteristically mean to Rime or something? GAF is very put up or shut up. Just because something exists doesn't mean it deserves praise. Rime might be awesome. It might be crap. Some people are worried it could be crap. That's the way it is. They can prove its us wrong, but should not take it personally.

Especially considering the kind of sketchy beginnings, it seems some were right to be skeptical. But again, maybe it'll be great. That's not on GAF, it's on them.

Some are, but as I said earlier most people interested the game were just curious what was going on with it.

It looks to have some good puzzles though https://youtu.be/BRtGWbq-o5E?t=1323

I've been totally hyped for Rime since the initial reveal. Seeing they're charging extra for it on Switch made me consider not supporting it at all however. Singling out a specific platform to raise the price on (where it doesn't make sense to raise digital to $10 over other digital copies as well) is a shitty business move. Honestly, just bite the bullet on taking a slightly smaller profit on that one particular platform for price parity's sake.

If this guy's priority is reading two and a half years worth of NeoGAF threads about his game, I think he's gotta reconsider a thing or two.

Honestly, this isn't just a GAF thing, it's an internet thing.

But get back to me when you want to cry about hateful comments made towards people because of issues rather than game design. A little bit of an overreaction, imo.

That's the thing, NeoGAF absolutely believes it's above all of this. This is the place for rational, critical thoughts about games unlike those other vile internet forums when the truth is that it really is the same + entitlement because it's hard to register

Sad to hear.

If they would drop the price on the Switch version to be the same as other versions they would get page after page after page of love here though. The negativity at this place usually comes from something that isn't quite right, unless it's about console warz.

I really hate the "everyone should be positive about everything" thing. If you're putting out a product for the public to consume, the public should be able to criticize it, and no one should pretend it doesn't have problems in order to protect the sensitivity of developers or fanboys. But I don't know the circumstances of this particular game. It's possible people were going too far.

This is why you don't read comments about your ongoing creative work on the internet if you value you sanity. Most of it is either speculation on very limited information and any community that latches onto crumbs like NeoGAF, anything even close to negative will probably be covered as such.

Sucks, but so does most of the internet.

The moment the game stopped being PS4 exclusive, backlash started happening on this site.

Careful, bud..

Yea it would be really tough to work on something for years and have it torn apart because it's not up to GAF's "standards".

There are too many ppl on here to make that judgement.

GAF is thousands of people. And as usual negativity is just easier to spot.

I get that and I'm not bunching everyone under the same umbrella. Lots of great folks here, but the negativity and critical tone from others can drown out the good from time to time. The sad truth is GAF is highly frowned upon from the outside whether it's justified or not.

going from console exclusive to multiplatform means this game got caught up in the crossfire of some console warrior bullshit that probably upped the vitriol and hyperbole unfortunately.

Can we please not? Like, there was more to that mess than "People is mad that Sony dropped them"

People got REALLY mad at them because of this:

And there were other reports about the game until that moment being just smoke and mirros kind of thing.

So yeah.

This is a bunch of rumors not facts. And yeah a lot of people were saying Sony dropped them because the game must be bad or something to that effect.

Is this because of the accusations that they lied to Sony and the gameplay reveal was actually CG?
Outside of that, I'm not sure there has been much to hate. Though because of that story many are apprehensive at the game's quality

Sounds like Neil Druckmann had the right idea when it comes to gaf... wasn't it something along the lines of "Keep calm and ignore Neogaf"

I'm pretty sure it was "ignore Neogaf as much as you can"

And he's completely right imho. Way too much melodrama and armchair analysis here.

Once Sony dropped Rime (because they're backing off of indie publishing efforts in general--see Edith Finch and other indies they dropped as well), a lot of Sony fans lost their shit and were like "hah, it's terrible, it has to be terrible, no way Sony would drop a good game."

At the same time, I mean... Tequila Works' last game was one of the worst games I've ever played?

Then again, I've played Rime now, and... Rime seems pretty darn great. If anything, it's the best turnaround I've ever seen for a studio.

It wasn't simply because Sony dropped the game, it was due to a pretty damning post about the game's development history.

I think he's talking about the negative reactions from people when Sony dropped them. And I have to admit it, I fell for the scam talk and believed it at the time.

Guys, this is NOT because of the Switch price thing.

It's because some years ago, someone at spanish forum Vandal (RIME devs are spanish) said that he had insider info about the game basically being a lie and that testers sai dit was shit, or something like that.

Info spread everywhere, including Gaf, and some people posted harsh comments because of the rumors and the lack of info from Sony and the devs.

Honestly, it's not a problem relegated to neogaf. People forget too easily that everyone else they talk to on the internet is, well, a person. I know I forget it often too.

This. Even if comments are pretty mundane, imagine seeing hundreds of tame comments criticizing your hard work. It has to be overwhelming.

Yeah, sadly as a dev you have to learn to avoid anything regarding your work on the internet, at least pre-release and for some weeks following release.

A lot of people are overly aggressive and don't stop to think before they speak.

Yup, he's got to give some love to get some love, can't expect people around here to love you if you're not treating them well.

Not really, the backlas against RIME/Tequila was more about the rumors about the game being a bunch of smoke and mirrors and some questionable practices in that company.

Thanks for trying to add the context, hope people will actually check this out instead of continuing the "GAF is so horrible" shtick
Yeah but again, was this ever proven? People dogpiling a dev based on nothing more than rumours seem a bit cruel.
