Advanced Warfare promised the same thing:

Not far off that lofty goal, imho

Yeah, but these are cutscenes.

High recoil on automatic weapons, reward bolt action. Small hitboxes. Limit speed at which a player can run, none of this sprinting everywhere all the time. Then it'll be good.

It would honestly be cool if they scrapped much of the traditional CoD progression and went with the Overwatch model of having all perks / weapons unlocked from the beginning and then work on various customizations or proficiencies.

When's the last time CoD weapons featured noticeable recoil? Admittedly, I haven't played any since BO1, but I remember being quite surprised at how simplistic the weapon handling was in MW1 coming from CoD3. I just don't see it happening, sadly.

Yeah but your kind of shooting for the moon and so anything below that is going to be a disappointment.

No hope equals no disappointment.

I have hope, however.

Sledgehammer Games is teasing something spectacular and it's palpable that you can tell they are immensely proud of what they have created - so all aboard the hype train I go :)

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
Idk... it'll have to feel different from modern CoD to get me interested. Don't care at all about some re-skin.

Hopefully they take this opportunity to slow down the pace of the multiplayer.

Playing COD4 Remastered, after having played every Call of Duty game after and including Modern Warfare, I was surprised by how often I had the time to think about doing something then get the chance to execute it, for example "I'm going to take this route to get there".

Call of Duty has been getting quicker and quicker such that it's at the point, now, where it just feels like you're flinging yourself into engagements and flipping a coin on whether or not you won or lose, over and over. The death, kill loop is so fast.

Exactly! I love that sense of "Im going to do this and this" and "Im going to sneak into this building and up these stairs".

Im very doubtful that they will drop things like Specialists too.

COD has long since stopped leading the pack and now mimics games like Overwatch and MOBAs.

I assume we'll see specialists with supers. Maybe this year we'll see special abilities too.

My hope is that just for this setting, they ditch all of that and keep it for the next scifi installment. Maybe Battlefield's risky setting (especially in terms of weapons) will embolden them to limit the kind of progress they've made

Well, the last COD game I really enjoyed was 2. Modern Warfare was good, ultimately I just hate automatic weapons. Well - what these games have turned into. Battlefield One really isn't appealing, it's just too ridiculous. A great spectacle, but really not anything that interests me.

It would be nice to have noticeable recoil that punishes spray and pray. But I agree, I don't see it happening either.

It just won't feel right if Thompson and MP40 handle like the laser pointers they call SMGs in newer CODs.

I don't want to over-hype myself, but I really hope the Wednesday reveal will blow us away.

I would love it if the following wishlist becomes confirmed fact:

• The initial D-Day mission is Omaha Beach

• The game is utilizing a brand-new engine that will wow us with it's features and technical prowess

• Photorealistic visuals

• Michael Giacchino or even John Williams composing the soundtrack

• AAA, big-name voice talent for the Campaign

• All SP missions are legendary locations and that they are plentiful

• A ridiculous amount of time/research/implementation in regards to sound; atmosphere also

Omaha Beach is already teased in the leaked materials, so it'll be in there, don't know if it'll be the opening mission though.

Not happening.

You're nuts.

John Williams is crazy to even suggest but Michael Giacchino did compose one of my favorite video game themes of all time.

The last few CoDs have had a big name actor for the campaign so I see it continuing here.

Judging from the leak screens and art I'm guessing this game centers around one squad in France.

Don't know about regards to sound in terms of research and preparation but I remember Dan Ryckert on the Bombcast talking about the research that went into Advanced Warfare so I bet Sludgehammer will do their due diligence when it comes to research.

I've been so antsy since the proper announcement that I went ahead and purchased the most recent WWII FPS I could think of - Enemy Front. Contrary to popular belief, it feels like a nice Far Cry/World at War blend and the PC version looked fantastic.
Anyone looking for a short and sweet single player experience to tide them over for a while, it served me well enough.

Take a break from the pick 10. Dump end game gestures and obnoxious skins and camos. All this neon chrome stuff just looks lame.

You guys sound like you want Battlefield 1 haha. I am not just being sassy here either. I'm stating an actual fact. Everything you just listed is in that game. Fact.

Leave my futuristic thrust jumping alone.

That sounds like a terrible time.

All I want really apart from solid gameplay mechanics & map designs is a viable competitive playlist/League Play. A new ranking system would be cool as well, I'd love to have something to work towards & it not being just a sign of how much someone has played. BO2's ranking system would be a good start.

Aside from that, I hope the game has a genuine WW2 type of 'gritty' feel to it.

Really enjoy this game. CI Games never get much love. Too bad.

A shooter that isn't afraid to slow down the pace is what I'd like to see. Battlefield One isn't a slow game by any means, it's an absurd one. Somewhat enjoyable, but I don't care if I die in that game. Everyone runs around like maniacs and on the close quarter's maps, it's full auto galore. It's not really a problem per se, it's just not what I want to play. I've been sticking to Squad lately, and while I would like to see a Battlefield game like the old style B2, I know that's not going to happen. Now a COD like COD2, that could happen. It just depends on the angle they go with it.

That sounds like a terrible time.

just playing something else lol

I probably will.

They are going to use a new engine?

I hope so - wouldn't it be exciting to see vastly improved graphics in the reveal, then to hear that Sledgehammer Games created a brand-new engine just for that purpose [among others]?

It's obvious to me based on their 2 1/2 years of research on the subject, that the studio heads at Sledgehammer Games - as well as all of their employees are extremely passionate about World War II.

I think that the team creating a new engine - or at least enhancing the shit out of the current one to make this the best looking FPS ever made - is merely fuel for their passion project.

Bring on the reveal!!

Yeah that hype train will hit you hard.

They won't use a new engine. Just take a look at the leaked screenshots.

This isn't gonna be that game obviously, but my dream WW2 game would be an almost survival horror take on it. Super atmospheric and an emphasis on small scale cat-and-mouse battles with really personal violence, unsettling sound design, and limited resources. Always with the impression that something extremely sinister is going on happen beyond just warfare. I think that could be a unique way to represent war both narratively, and in terms of gameplay beyond just rushing down waves of dudes gung ho style.
