Spider-Man 3.1 (New cut supervised by Sam Raimi) included in Japanese SM Trilogy Set

Fun fact: S-M3 is 10 years old tomorrow.

Also, S-M1 is 15 years old today.

Spider-Man 3 is one of the most enjoyable superhero movies I've ever seen. It never ceases to make me smile. I can't say the same for the majority of MCU movies.

Oh yes. Tomorrow's my birthday and I quite vividly remember getting together a group of friends for the midnight screening on my birthday back then, and our, uh, less-than-excited reactions afterward. Whoops. :lol

Not true.

Drag Me To Hell was the bomb.

Guess it was aight.

Looking back at Raimi's filmography I've realized I don't really care much for most of his work to be honest. A bit strange that he has stepped off the director change though. This new SM3 edit is the first movie he has worked on since Oz: Origins Boogaloo.

Shoe-horning Sandman into Uncle Ben's murder was unecessary but it could've worked if the character had any depth or a cohesive arc parallel to emo-Peter.

Instead, Sandman was offered redemption for no reason, he does nothing to earn it, "I'm not a bad man I just had bad luck", "I do crime out of love for my sick daughter" *sad face* So-bad-it's-unintentionally-hilarious.

The series is great, but Raimi only directed the pilot episode. However, the directors of the last couple of season 1 episodes did a great job of mimicking Raimi's energetic style.

I'm still pissed that the only way to get the show legally here is with a Virgin Media subscription.

Dunno why the title was edited earlier, but it's definitely not a "typo" of any sort. The Amazon Japan listing is very detailed and specifically says Spider-man 3.1 is a new edit supervised by Sam Raimi himself. It's the headliner for the special features on disc 4. Mentioned multiple times in the listing and has a runtime. How do you typo that?

Glad you rolled around. I couldnt figure out why everyone suddenly started ignoring the jp listing just because someone zoomed in on a photo and blatantly ignored the product description beside it.

It may finally be time for me to purchase the trilogy. I'm not the biggest fan of Raimi's Peter Parker, but 2 is still a fun movie overall, 1 has its moments, and the new cut of 3 could be interesting.

As Sartre noted in his contemplation on Hell in No Exit, the true horror is other members.
I would also like to know if it's 1.1 and 2.1 in the package. That would be great, then I'd have DVDs of the original cuts, and then the adjusted blu-rays.

Movies get patches now. BvS's should have been Day One.

Fuck yes, definitely buying this. Raimi's Spider-Man films have a sense of charm, heart & showmanship that few other films in the genre, all these years later, have achieved.

I am so picking this up. I don't own the trilogy on Blu-Ray, so nabbing this for the sake of Blu-Ray and added features is going to rule.

It's easy to be a lot more forgiving of most of SM3's many flaws when looking back at it from an age where we've since lived through the likes of BvS, ASM2, Suicide Squad and X-Men Apocalypse tbh.

The bar on comic book movies has been dragged pretty low nowadays.

I know he has the fringe over one eye thing that was associated with those scene kids but I'm always confused by people calling him "emo Peter". How does he act in any way emo?

He acts like a plonker that thinks he's cool, going around dancing and giving everyone the finger guns.

he doesn't.

It's just some knee-jerk call-and-response nerd bullshit.

People don't really think about it. They just blurt the shit out they think they're supposed to blurt out when they hear the prompt.

I think it was somehow too subtle for some people. Or they wanted a straight-up badass Dark Peter Parker, which would've been a mistake.

Has it been worth it to spend two days fighting for Spidey 3's honor
Is this the face of inspiration

He acts like a plonker that thinks he's cool, going around dancing and giving everyone the finger guns.

He starts acting like an edge-lord and dramatically makes it a plot point to combs his hair over his eyes, a hairstyle most commonly associated with emo kids which was especially popular at the time of release.
No, Peter isn't actually emo, he isn't writing in his dark thoughts diary and listening to screamo, in fact he's actually jamming to much better music and feeling pretty good. But getting on peoples case for calling him what he looks like is a really strange battle to fight. When people say "I didnt like emo peter parker," they're just meaning that they didnt like his appearance and that those portions of the movie sucked.
And they did.

I mean, there are more relevant horses to beat than the ones that have been dead for 10 years. We could be squabbling over Snoke theories or jerking off over RLM. At the very least, guessing what may have been cut from the 3.1 cut. I'm actually hoping Peter's embarrassing scenes have been dramatically shortened in favor of some other deleted scenes. Less dancing, more Venom please. And somehow patch that butler plothole.

I don't know what reaction Raimi intended to get out of people with that shot of Peter looking at himself in the mirror and then brushing his hair down to suddenly suit his new, murderous mood, but I'd be surprised if he wanted the laughter he got in my theater. Man, that was an awkward scene.

A lot would argue that's the point. He's supposed to be embarrassing. I just think it didn't get the right kind of laugh. Instead of laughing with the movie, we were laughing at it. The laughs happened, but they weren't in Raimi's favor as planned. The joke didn't land, it just looked fucking stupid.

The fact that so many people don't even realize this just demonstrates how ineffective it was.

Emo-Peter was fucking brilliant, what is wrong with people?

However the state of Parker at the end of Spidey 3 - he's basically cheated on MJ, wrongly caused the death of the mugger in the first movie, was partially responsible for Eddie's demise, then he let's the real frickin' murderer go out of sympathy even though he also committed armed robbery, helped kill Harry, tried to kill Peter and endangered the lives of innocent people.

Peter Parker is trashed at the end of Spider-man 3, we needed a Raimi sequel to repair the guy.

I think that's absolutely what he wanted.

And Silly's defense of clinging to call-and-response bullshit for a decade straight is an interesting read. Especially because it's basically admitting "emo peter" isn't anything more than a whole bunch of teenage boys disliking Tobey Maguire's hair (who have become a whole bunch of teenage men who are still mad at that hair.)

What are you even doing right now, sidestepping my post but with nothing to say?
I'm just saying you're taking up the sword over semantics, over what amounts to a haircut classification. I don't understand your passion.

People would be a lot more forgiving if the scenes surrounding it weren't horse shit. The writing/direction was the real problem, the haircut's just an easily identifiable mascot for that problem.

Edit: Okay so you updated your post to insult people, I guess that counts as having something more to say.

How can you not take it seriously!?!

Look at that hair

fuckin look at it.

Okay nevermind, do your thing man.

Of course I am. That's kinda my fuckin' thing. Semantics only seem to diminish in importance when people find themselves standing on the silly side of them. Otherwise they have no problem discussing em!

You're arguing for people's right to mindlessly repeat empty bullshit. I'm arguing against empty bullshit and for thinking before you speak.

"Semantics!"

Well, yeah.

It's not really all that passionate, either. It's just a fun thing to poke at, because the bubble itself is enticing. Popping bubbles is just inherently fun. Spider-Man 3 discussions are like a big roll of packing wrap tossed out red-carpet style, surrounding the mistaken conception and application of the word "emo" as a descriptor of Peter Parker, done primarily because sensitive fans can't get over their superhero's hair.
