[Polygon] Microsoft, give consumers the FPS counter on the front of the Xbox Scorpio

A transparent FPS counter in the top right corner is the most I would ask for, Steam style.

But even that is far far faaaaaaaaar down on my list of priorities.

People complain about LEDs on controllers and systems already, I can't imagine an alarm clock style counter on the outside of the system. Wouldn't it be better to be system OS based and just have the numbers in plain white text in the corner?

I love how he wants an FPS counter on this console, cause you can't help but wonder why spend the extra money if you can't see the difference without a giant flashing indicator to remind you.

I love how he has written an article which is super sarcastic and satirical and it's gone over the head of most people because they desperately want to disagree with it.

I'm not sure about displaying the framerate etc, but having a screen on the front would be awesome. For devs or MS to display anything they liked either in-game or from the OS.

They should definitely keep it.

If you need a counter to tell you whether a game is performing well enough for your liking, you aren't doing it right.

I feel like this article is clearly satire. People demanding performance that they can't even perceive without the machine explicitly detailing the performance. Anyone who needs to have this kind of assurance to understand what's going on probably doesn't need a Scorpio...

Ha! How about let's not have any form of FPS counter so we don't care about something that isn't really an issue.

Yeah having an option to have an FPS overlay on the screen like Steam does would probably be the best option. It might get console gamers to care about frame-rate more as well, which is always a good thing.

Why would anyone even need this? It's not like they can lower the graphics settings or overclock for a higher frame rate.

OK so you hypocrites cry for pointless 60 FPS, now you get demanding system that boasts about the performance that you've been begging for and say it's dumb?

just like give the option to have a fps counter on screen.

even then it seems pointless. console games dont generally have graphical settings that affect framerate the end user has no need for that kind of information.

like

why?!

Most people just wanna play games and don't even know what framerate is, so this will be a preference for a small minority of people.

You heard them MS, go back to 30fps and 900p. They secretly wanted all along. No need to prove to anyone that your system is more powerful than competitors.

How the fuck can anyone working at Polygon genuinely call themselves journalists?

All I ever see from them these days is pure bullshit.

Listen, no one is going to buy what’s promised to be the most powerful gaming console ever created to not know the frame rate of each game in real time.

I've read this sentence like seven times and I finally made it make sense by changing it to read "... ever created, and not expect to know..."

What do you mean?
He means that he loved Polygon for sharing gaming news, but wants them to not exist because they are reporting on something everyone on neogaf has been asking for everyday for years. Sounds like the story when a 13 year old girl wanted a pony delivered by a pink helicopter with Barbie flying it, then daughter asks to be put up for adoption because parents forgot the specific shade of pink she liked most.

Consumers already have a FPS counter for consoles... Is called Digital Foundry... Also consoles are nothing like the PCs. FPS counters in the PC world is used to test every new piece of hardware.

Lol.

I thought he was talking about a packaging software app that could let you do that if you wanted. And I was like, that's not for me, but some people would find it cool

And then he's actually talking about putting an LED display on the actual hardware. Fuck, that is dumb.

Edit: Haha. I should have read the article before giving my hot take. This is pretty funny satire

I can't believe someone actually wrote and think this (in a non-satiric way, I mean)

Edit. Is this parody? The tone of the article isn't really clear and reads like a serious request rather than parody, but parody would make more sense.

.

Obviously it works as a satyrical piece, problem is the tone of the article does not get it right imo. More of a writing problem than a conception one.

Oh lol, I see. A closest PC fanboy rant. Whoops didn't get the inside arguments there. I forgot PC must not be matched so that console peasants can be laughed at by having less.

Fuck. No.

Besides adding this stupid feature would work against MS' best interest for the system. The moment a game had a framerate drop, people would bitch up a storm.

Same here.

I don't get the disgust of some of the reactions. It'd be a neat little feature for a console being sold on raw power to people who care about raw power.

I can take it or leave it, but its a fine suggestion, and better than putting that info up on the game screen imho. Its also obvious that there wouldn't be many upsides for MS and devs on this, and potential downsides for both, which doesn't make it a very realistic suggestion. But as a player, *I'd* appreciate it.

Yeah same. If it's an option. That's fine by me.

Actually, in my stupidity I thought Polygon wanted a FPS counter on the TV screen, but it turns out that they want it on the console, excuse me for misunderstanding their great idea.
Was there ever a problem with having a clock tell time on a cable box?

This seems like a dumb idea. I would fixate on that the whole time instead of enjoying the game.

Now, the hours like an old VCT would be pretty cool.
