There's a Sekaijuu no Meikyu/Etrian Odyssey livestream on the 20th. It's going to be your lovely Atlus stream as usual with a touch of Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2 bits, but I wonder if Atlus/Sega is going to continue the Etrian brand. It's not a huge brand, it has its fans, but this is probably one of the few surviving dual screen exclusives and the dual screen is dead.

It will. The series has been incredibly consistent and I would imagine profitable. Sometimes it is nice to have a small, guaranteed win as a publisher. It was one of the few series that saw virtually no drop in sales from DS to 3DS.

Can they make EO work on a single screen?

I haven't really sunk a decent amount of time into any of the games, so I'm unsure about that aspect.

There's a few things they can do, transparent map overlay, minimap, have half the screen taken up by the map.

For when you want to do Cartography, there shouldn't be any difficulty using an analog stick and a button even for filling in walls.

It might end up being slower though hence having shortcut buttons to switch quickly between paint floors or draw walls etc.

Plus, they made the game accessible for people that don't want to do that by having the option to have certain things fill automatically.

Using an analog stick to map things is technically possible, but it sounds like an absolute chore compared to touchscreen mapping

They must've sold most of the initial Monster Hunter Stories run as it's getting a rerelease on 27 July along with the update.

Dengeki FW: 151,110 (65%)
Dengeki Week 18 2017: 335 622

They sold all Week 1 shipment quite a while ago, it was already at 309k by the end of the year, so there's already been several additional shipments.

Any other series that would have been an absolutely solid result

Thanks. I'm relying on my phone today so fact checking isn't so easy.

Hopefully EU/NA numbers will help take it above 500k.

Yeah, EU/NA numbers are going to be interesting. Really wasn't expecting a localisation at all, but hopefully the game being a RPG will help.

Monster Hunter Stories sold below Capcom's expectations, but shipment for the game wasn't big (~280k according to Media Create), it sold-through all the shipment and it was over 300k by the end of 2016.

It's an underperforming result, but not a bomba bin game like gaist crusher or others.

If it's getting a re-release with the new update I think we can safely assume that a G version isn't coming. I wonder what the optimistic plans for it were had it not underperformed.

Rank (total) is a redundant column, with the total of ranks (a game that charted 3 weeks at #2, #7, and #15 would have 24 as total).

And the charts are only for the current year. Not that many games chart outside their release year anyway (but I'll try to see if I can't come up with a LTD chart, somehow).

Huh. That's a really weird number to come up with for each one, but I guess it does it's job? I dunno. Like you said it seems redundant. I don't know what info one can take away from that column.

And I got ya. That makes way more sense. Might undersell some of the games that have had super long legs at the top 20, but with that info given it helps clear up the context. Thank you. :)

Hopefully MonHun Stories does a bit better in the west...
Is the anime popular there? Or is it not out yet?

Not out yet in EU nor any actual plan announced to air it

Any chance for a new EO announcement on the 10th anniversary event?

In North America, it's exclusive to a streaming service for anime fans, which caters to teenagers and adults.

To turn it into its own series, presumably so they don't have to keep cranking out revisions every 12 months.

Capcom must be pretty disapointed with it if they're doing a re-release and not an expansion. Even Gaist Crusher got the latter.

What was the word on the quality of MH Stories?

I don't care about sales, but was the game well-received? Is it strictly a kids' game or is there some complexity there?

Anime is streaming on Crunchyroll in North America. New episode came out Saturday and the show right now is ranked the 49th most popular on the service (forget if it updates daily or hourly). It's not lighting up the charts to put nicely.

I see, disappointing for the anime...

I remember the impressions being good. Not complex, but a good RPG, and building nicely on the MonHun universe.

The investment into it is also far more significant though. Not only is it the company's strongest brand in Japan, but partners were really banking on the anime taking off too. The whole thing being kinda ho hum isn't a good look for the opportunity to diversify the MH brand and expand it across more demographics.

Not sure why Capcom should care about USFII Famitsu review score, tbh. People who really want it will buy it without reading any reviews because it's friggin' SFII. People who find it too expensive will wait anyway. People not interested are not gonna be swayed by a 40/40 (especially with how much value those have).

That being said, I'd love to read the comments about the Way of the Hado mode if there's any, out of curiosity.

Can anyone give a fair translation for this? Just to see how far Honkano is umping to conclusions based on his PlayStation-bias (or, well, if there's something true behind this, after all :p ).
The Google Translate isn't too bad. This is the headline.
[Rumor] A week ago, SNS in China? It was posted as "SIESH invited to E3 because there is a new game machine announcement" and it seems that it was deleted afterwards?
PSP3/Vita 2/PSE reveal at E3.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
New Splatoon 2 trailer tho. Pre-orders finally -maybe- going live hype!

Yeah, I assume this could finally be the time for Splatoon 2 pre-orders to officially start. That or at least the official preorders starting day's announcement.

The way Japan handles pre-orders was always kind of odd to me. Usually with Western publishers, you can start pre-ordering a major title as soon as any meaningful information is out about it, and often even before that.

I am sure Japanese retailers don't want hassle with the chance of having to return customers money if the publisher decides not to ship the game.

As a switch owner I'll be saddened if this happens and it takes away a lot of Japanese support. However, As a former Vita owner though, I'd likely buy a Vita 2 on day 1 so the former wouldn't really affect me.

Out of curiosity, has atlus ever shown interest in mobile. I have been playing a lot of fire emblem heroes and I feel something like that would work well for persona/smt characters.

I really doubt it exists, however if it does, I think it is more likely to bolster Switch software development. They likely would not be too different in architecture, and it would be just as easy to support all 3 platforms.

Afaik no, Atlus is weirdly conservative when it comes to expanding their business for some reason. Or they're just plain lazy I don't know.
