House majority leader to colleagues in 2016: ‘I think Putin pays’ Trump

Which is weird to be, because of all people, I don't think Trump really ""needs"" that money. Could there be something else Putin is paying/blackmailing Trump with? (Aside from the golden shower meme) Regardless, fucker needs to get impeached.

Trump only has money primarily because of the Russians in the first place. After he wrecked most of his businesses in the 80s and 90s, no US banks would lend to him anymore. So, he went to Russian oligarchs and the Russian mafia. The government of Russia is tightly entwined with both of those groups (it serves and is composed of them).

Question here, if they have the tape, why won't they release it?

Wouldn't that cause nuclear damage?

I'm very ignorant on this kind of matters

I kind of figured something along these lines is why the GOP aren't willing to do anything.

A fair few of them are obviously going to be implicated with Russia.

this dopey fuck getting ousted with trumps gang is making me hard. sprinkle in turtle asshole and a couple others and we're golden

When initially asked to comment on the exchange, Brendan Buck, a spokesman for Ryan, said: “That never happened,” and Matt Sparks, a spokesman for McCarthy, said: “The idea that McCarthy would assert this is absurd and false.”

After being told that The Post would cite a recording of the exchange, Buck, speaking for the GOP House leadership, said: “This entire year-old exchange was clearly an attempt at humor.

That part shows what republican denials are worth.

lol
Locker room talk defense.

I know we've been through a lot, but this makes my blood boil the most. They knew the whole fucking time and went along with it for tax cuts.

The GOP MUST fall.

Between Trump just joking with Comey about locking up reporters and this, GOP sure have quite the sense of humor. Who knew republicans were such comedians in secretive meetings about damning topics?

Guys this was one of the reddit rumors along with others. It's all real holy shit. The other rumor being that the entire GOP apparatus is being funded through laundered Russian money.

Holy shit.

Best part:

"Never happened."
"We have tapes."
"What? Oh fuck.... uh, it was a joke! Yeah! A joke!"
Maybe is not following journalism ethic, but they should keep quiet about the tape and let them make them a spectacle about fake just to have it explode in their face.

This is an easy spin as a joke taken out of context.

What will be more interesting is whether this will puncture the thin skin of Trump and sour his relationship with Republicans. If so, and if he indulges his petty vindictiveness, this could be the wedge needed to get those in the House to turn on Trump.

Maybe.

man. Ryan. how craven can you get?

none. none more craven.
No because there's nothing here but a dumb joke / stupid observation and Ryan not wanting bad optics during a critical time for Republicans. If willful ignorance (short of explicit knowledge about collusion) about the obviousness of Trump's fleeting allegiance to US interests is criminal then the entire GOP and half the country is prosecutable. But it's not and they're not.

Also this was in May. Nobody thought Trump was a Russian puppet in May. I sure didn't. GOP platform scandal happened like late June.

Holy shit.

At this point, while I doubt that's true with all the scumbag billionaires like Adelson and the Koch brothers running around, I do think a significant portion of the GOP is on the take from Russia, including most of the Trump's cabinet and various members of GOP House and Senate leadership.

I like how Ryan says “No leaks...This is how we know we’re a real family here", but their response to this story now is that it was just a joke.

If it's a joke, then there's nothing to leak...

It's funny how hard core Republicans got their dream candidate and it's sounding more and more like he could bring about the destruction of the entire GOP.

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) immediately interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthy’s assertion, and swore the Republicans present to secrecy.

yikes

I think most could some what take it as a poor joke if it wasn't for them trying to cover it up. And you know the sworn to secrecy part..

That Ryan quote...Yeah...if you still consider yourself a republican after this, I don't know what to tell you. You're a lost cause. The GOP has lied to you and have no concerns other than themselves. Whatever one issue policy you thought was worth Trump was worth jack squat to them. You've given power to criminals, they've shown you clearly that they are criminals, they've shown you how far they are willing to go to keep themselves in power and fuck you over. Wake the fuck up.

It's funny how hard core Republicans got their dream candidate and it's sounding more and more like he could bring about the destruction of the entire GOP.

Literally because at the basic level, the GOP was about warping the rules to destroy others and use the politcal machine to bolster themselves. A fine racket when small as we've seen in some local governments but once it gets this big, even without the patently imbecilic leadership, it's untenable. Too many fucking secrets. Too many blatant betrayals of principle. It's unsustainable to be so evil and big without expecting a consequence or two.

Would you like to publish a list of every joke you've ever made in private?

I don't know or think that McCarthy was joking but it's not impossible.

Jesus CHRIST, the Washington Post is putting the work in.

And the joke, in the present context, looks like it isn't funny. It's Ryan's reaction that's so telling. Paul Ryan didn't play it off, he told McCarthy to hush. And then he told the representatives present to keep the exchange secret. Is it because he thought the joke was in poor taste or because he had similar suspicions or...

I mean, who would buy the "locker room" joke now? Only the diehards, sure. But God, the "optics" look bad.

Reading the full transcript, unfortunately this will be spun as actual joking around. Lot of laughter during the bad comments. So unfortunately this isnt as big as it seems i guess.

But what is there to leak? That McCarthy made a joke about Trump and Russia? I mean, that's not exactly noteworthy. Nothing that requires an oath of secrecy.
