Tom Hardy to star in Sony's 'Venom', Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) to direct

I'm gonna watch the fuck out of this day one. I was already excited for a solo venom movie and now we get Tom Hardy? Awesome. Don't give af if it has Holland in it or not. Just mash Venom's origin in the intro real quick and get on with the Lethal protector shit.

Oh, and he needs to look like this:

None of that ' just started lifting beginner gains' shit like in S3.

Nah,

latest

Big enough that we don't need to Hulk CGI every scene he's in.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
"Take our J. Jonah Jameson will you D.C ?

Fine. We're gonna take your Bane then".

Right now Sony is that homely looking dude who somehow landed a smoking hot girlfriend, so now he's feeling way more confident about his sexual prowess so he created a tinder account to see what else is out there.

Those are two good ass picks for a Venom film. I would love for Hardy to do his Bane voice through the whole film, would be glorious

I'm very aware of the Venom character from Spider-Man, but has Venom ever had any solo stories or runs in comic books?

Only way I can see this working is they play it like a straight action movie with an alien-enhanced super operative

Or doing that, but then shifting into horror movie territory in the second half, as the symbiote takes control and we got monstrous Venom

Yes, back in the 90s and sporadically afterward until Flash Thompson became Venom and got his own series for awhile. Brock is currently Venom again and has an ongoing title.

The 90s books were trash, the Flash series was good, haven't read the current one.

That's good casting, but I'm more intrigued by the logistics of the universe being set up and what angle they're approaching Venom for this film (and presumably the universe as a whole).

So ideally we're getting this on-screen right? That's like the best way to do a standalone movie that needs no connection to Spiderman, Marvel, or any superheroes

Venom is only good when he is playing off Spiderman or his history with spiderman

Wait ... wait wait wait wait wait. Can you confirm that there is no relation to either of these movies? They're leading off their own Spiderman universe with Venom? Huh?

I mean,
we have infinity war to
introduce the symbiote... what's going on here?

Fucking NO. Please no.

None of this fucky agent Venom bullshit. Classic, OG Eddie Brock or don't do it at all.

Without Spiderman, that's not going to work well as a standalone movie. Agent Venom is the best option here

Group/government captured an alien symbiote, combine with a host to make the ultimate assassin/soldier, soldier goes on missions for them, discovers dark secrets, fights against the group that created him

Added bonus is that soldier loses control of symbiote, letting us get both the enhanced soldier in the first half and unstoppable monster massacring enemies in the second

No superheroes, no superheroics, just a secret agent/spy movie with alien powers and maybe an action/horror vibe

Yeah but Flash Thompson's character is pretty significantly connected to Spiderman even moreso than Brock.

Fans will hate-fuck the concept, it will under-perform and pollute the Venom waters for another generation.

I think I'm just going to hope it all falls through and the film dies until they can do it right.

It's not really going to matter who they choose as the host when this movie is an R-rated ”action/horror/sci-fi" standalone film.

They'll just use the most known person and retrofit them to suit the story

Fans wouldn't be the ones to make it a success or not. While I don't trust Sony to do it well, it matters more that it's a solid action movie than whether it is an accurate adaptation that pleases fans. The former would review well, and be a fun surprise, regardless if fans like it or not

Have you seen Split? It's not based on a comic book but It's a legit great villian origin story.

I should have qualified my statement and said Comic Book Supervillain movie where he or she is evil all the way through.

Split happened and worked because it was made on a shoestring budget where the director/writer had 100% control over the project. I doubt you could convince shareholders of a big studio to greenlight something like that with a big budget.

Waves of hate from fans is not going to help their box-office. If fans see stupid Agent Venom crap when they want/expect the Spider-Man Venom of their childhoods, the promotional material is not going to play well.
