Looks like Alpha 17 is live.

Alpha 17 - On the Road has been released! This version brings roads and rivers to the world, new world quests, new tools for modders, new combat tools, smarter AI, and rebalancings and adjustments across the whole design.

Watching the video, I was impressed with the amount of rebalancing included in this update. Also takes an interesting deep-dive into coding procedural generation, both terrain and outpost layouts.

Time to start a new colony!

Anyone with a GPD WIN getting Vanquish?

I know Bayonetta wasn't, but I'd be interested as to whether it's remotely playable.

MGR:R runs, so it's not a ludicrous suggestion.

I honestly don't understand the hype around Vanquish.
The gameplay is good, but there are better tps around in my opinion.
The story is forgettable in fact I forgot it.
Graphics are good and they are better on PC, of course, as the whole tech side.

But really, there are better games than Vanquish around, Bayonetta in exampe is so much better and deep, Vanquish was just ok, in fact when I played it on PS3 I was like "Ok, it was...nice?".

What recent TPS games are better?
Don't say MGSV, Binary domain, and RE6 since we've all played those recently. Gameplay wise Vanquish at 60FPS is gonna be quite the treat, especially with the extreme lack of gameplay mechanic heavy TPS this year.

On PC the biggest third person shooters have been Ghost Recon and Mass Effect. Not exactly much in the way of what I said earlier.

Vanquish isn't that good. One of the latest trends in PC gaming is to hype up an old-school game that is getting ported over. I remember not enjoying the game at all, I usually need stories in games, or play against people.

Playing vanquish felt very boring to me. Same thing from beginning to end.

Well, I don't consider MGSV and Mass Effect tps at all, and I was talking about Vanquish PS3, when it was given with Plus. On PC is a new thing and there's a lack of tps at the moment, but in example on console there were Uncharted titles, Gears of War games on One etc, I honestly prefer a GOW to Vanquish, or an Uncharted. They are less deep and fast, but at least there's a story, cinematics with a proper plot etc.

That's bullshit and you know it. Vanquish has been one of the most requested games for a pc port for years now.

Sounds more like vanquish simply isn't for you. Platinum games have never been for the story (until Nier) or pvp crowd

Is it really so hard to understand that some people might simply prefer it the other way around?

Uncharted games are some of the most polished in the genre. You'd be hard pressed to stack anything similar up to them. Not a #Sony fanboy, btw.

Did that Ghost Recon game pan out in any way? There were some really great entries in that series back in the Aughties.

I would say even those do something else. I'll give you that both offer story. But in the case of Uncharted they offer so much story the gameplay takes a back seat. In the case of gears 4, the gameplay outside of QoL changes is the same thing we've been playing since 2 basically.

Vanquish for what it is, I think is a good game and a good fit for the extreme lack of TPS this year. Can't say I cared much about the story in it either, but the high speed gameplay made it a fun ride even for its short length.

Well, not true at all. Bayonetta and Rising have a story, it can or can't be liked, but there's a proper plot. In Vanquish the plos is there, but it's simply non-existent, just a reason to shoot something. But again it's a personal thing, I tend to like games involving me with a story compared to titles focusing on gameplay only.

Also I find what the poster wrote is true, on PC people tend to generally hype every game which was console exclusive (not old school), no matter how good it is.
I'm happy to see each game hitting PC, because I simply hate exclusive of any kind, but I see a pattern lately in which people glorify the PC port of a console exclusive no matter what.

I liked Uncharted 1 and 2, 3 was just ok, 4 was boring because of the "walk and talk 15 minutes, shoot two minutes, walk and talk again solving some dumb puzzles, repeat", there was simply too much story and exposition here, didn't play Gears 4, only the first two and they were great in coop with my brother.

So the waiting game continues still waiting on the other 4 games that havent been ported for some reason.

Of course it will release on PC, it's SE and they aim for double-dippers.
After all they are selling a 50€ Remastered here, it's a new low, at least Type 0 (which had much work behind than FFXII, since that was a PSP game and a lot of textures were redone from zero) had Episode Duscae bundled with, FFXII has nothing at all.
SE sells the most explensive remastered if you think about it, they went from Kindgom Hearts collection with two games and one movie compilation, to Type 0 passing on FFX/X-2, which at least presented two games.
XII is just a remaster of a PS2 games, you can add trophies, you can enhance graphics, you can implement cheats, but it's a PS2 remaster for 50€...saying it will release on PC, probably for half the price, would kill part of the sales.
Probably during the next year we'll see it, SE will fill the gap with something else, maybe World of FF releasing this year.

Yeah I've seen everyone hyping up Omega Quintet, we love any previous console exclusive

Personally plot and bayonetta is one thing I wouldn't really combine. I mean yeah it's there, but I think the characters take the stage rather than any hoopla about witches, angels, and everything else. Since it gets rather convoluted unless you're heavily invested in the specifics.

If "there's a plot" is enough for you, sure more power to you, but you'll be hard pressed to actually find people who play Bayonetta for the story.

These ports are "Glorified" because these games were extremely popular within the crowd back then and were demanded a lot. Where are all the people hyping the Ghostlight or XSEED ports to heaven? Do you see any people gushing about Senran Kagura, Lost Dimension or Little kings story?

GOTY confirmed.

Comparisons to the likes of Journey or ICO were inevitable, and while it can imitate a little too closely, it has just enough fresh ideas to set it apart. Its clean and colourful presentation is backed up by a truly excellent soundtrack, and the story conjures up some wonderful moments along its fairly brief duration.

Well, some did it in the past here on GAF to be honest :D
Anyway I'm not talking about anyone in particular, but just a trend which happens quite a lot lately, but of course people are free to hype what they want, tastes are tastes and games in particular are very subject to having each own taste.

I'm just waiting to see if in Vanquish there's some kind of easter egg related to Yakuza (if so, I'll cancel my Kiwami pre-order tomorrow) or, more important, Shenmue.

Excited to see more on the game!

The review thread is gonna be a terrible mess for this game no matter if it is good or bad isn't it?

When is a review thread NOT a terrible mess?

I've got my popcorn ready as they provide some of the most entertainment on 'Gaf.

Simply glorious, the whole lot* of them.

* Though platform-exclusive titles really do dial up the crazy to 11, truth be told.

To be honest I remember a few pages about LKS and SK.
