NC Games, a local importer for games in Brazil, will bring Nintendo games again. The official report comes from a register in the Diário Oficial da União (basically the "Federal Register"), indicating that the games are in the process of age rating and close to get into stores.

The list of the games registered are:
  • 1-2 Switch (Switch)
  • Mario Party Star Rush (3DS)
  • Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon (3DS)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch)
  • Mario & Luigi Paper Jam (3DS)
  • Fire Emblem Fates Birthright (3DS)
  • Kirby: Planet Robot (3DS)
Other games not listed are Bomberman R and Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, which NC Games is in negotiation with Konami and Capcom.

But not all the games will be exclusive to be distribuited with NC Games. Ubisoft works in Brazil and will be the official distribuitor for Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle.

They're still studying the market for prices and expect to put the games into stores costing R$330 to R$400 (US$90+ to US$120). They didn't talk about the console price.

Nintendo left Brazil early january 2015. Since then, besides the eShop, only the grey market was the option to get games, and they're expensive as shit.

For comparison, a imported launch game on PS4 costs R$250, and a Sony published game like Uncharted 4 costs R$180. A Nintendo 3DS game in grey market costs today R$200, and a Wii U is at least R$250.

Oh, boy...

Sadly, they will be expensive as fuck. ~120 dollars for Zelda is even more ridiculous than the 80-90 dollars it costs on the gray market.

$120 for a game....

I really don't know who is to blame.

Also, remember Switch doesn't officially have online access in Brazil, so they would have to make USA accounts.

Let me clarify this a bit. This is not Nintendo coming back to Brasil, this is an importer bringing the games here legally while they are still rated by our board. But there is not any effort by Nintendo and, as far as I know, no partnership. NC Games used to bring some left out Nintendo games in the past (and expensive as fuck amiibos), but Nintendo only had a partnership with "Gaming do Brasil" (and "Gradiente" but that was waaaay back in the day) and they left that in 2015, this is not them coming back.

This move will potentially make the grey market worse or keep it the same. This isn't helpful to anybody basically, it'll just waste shelf space. Most people who still buy Nintendo here either buy digitally where we pay basically the actual intended price or the grey market, and this will not change it.

The only positive note is that Ubisoft might be able to make Mario & Rabbids cheaper than the rest if they want... But I don't count on that

Always the government.

But keep in mind the scheme behind those high import taxes is to coerce foreign businesses to build factories in Brazil. It's a strategy with good intentions that is bad mostly because they aren't dealing directly with the factors that weakened their country's ability to become an even bigger exporter.

Also, I wonder why Brazil gets so left behind?
Even some poorer Central American countries get Nintendo games officially.

By your admission these guys have been in business for awhile. They aren't going to waste time on a product that will sit on shelf and not turn them a profit.

In your social circles people aren't buying from them but they are doing fine with their customers outside of your social circle.

We still don't have a Switch eShop, neither we had one for Wii U.

But we can still buy from both Canadian or US eShops so whatever

Yes, yes they are. We had some Wii U games imported by these exact same people reach us and I can still see some of them on the shelves to this day, like, a 2013 game with a ridiculous full price.

The only social circle that people are buying from them is rich as fuck people, which I can assure you are not buying Nintendo in such huge bulks as you may think

You think Nintendo are charging that much, because they can?

It's the Brazilian import tax. Unless you make your products locally, you are gonna get hit with crazy high tax rates.

Sony explains why the PS4 costs $1800 in Brazil:

Yeah, 63% of the price are taxes.

I always complain the lack of support Nintendo has in Mexico , the remember Brasil and feel we are in the paradise.

Nintendo does not care for Latinoamérica countries in general , but Brasil , Chile and Argentina are forgotten lands to Mario and friends .

400 reais for a game. This is amazing lol
Even the R$ 4000 (over 1000 USD at that time) PS4 didn't looked so ridiculous

almost
Nobody gonna pay for this when you can buy a game

Sony was full of bs at that time

Just like NC now. They already sold imported games in the past and never for that price.

Of course it did, it was the biggest joke on our videogame market's history and that's not going to change any soon lol.

Taxes are still fucking ridiculous here, but this is way beyond that.

I changed my account to US, the canadian prices are worse now.

Yup, waaay worse and we get taxed a lot. US account is the new Canadian account (since it actually fucking takes my credit card now)

Let it be known, the Sega Master System will probably forever remain the best selling console in Brazil.

lol @ buying physical games here in Brazil.

No wonder that the digital age destroyed many game stores at least in Rio.

This should be on the OP. Brasil market is close as fuck and there little incentive to invest here. Nintendo is completely right about getting the fuck out.

I bought Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with my credit card, but i bought Thumper and Garou with eShop cards (digital codes) from www.amazon.jp, really easy and fast.

Nice, thanks a lot!

The company has over a 100 employees and has been around since 1996. They aren't going away. People clearly buy games and consoles from them even if the grey market is bigger than the retail one.

I'm not sure if you actually live here or if you're just googling things about NC Games... you're right that they probably aren't going away, but... they don't deal with Nintendo only. That's not an indicative that this is not a bad move

Awesom* ....what?

Let it be known, the Sega Master System will probably forever remain the best selling console in Brazil.

Now we have a new Mega Drive with bad sound, awesome controllers, cartridge opening and SD reader for everdrive needs. It is not full compatible with some games (sonic 3 & knuckles and Virtua Racing for example)

But most Brazilian retailers are selling Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for R$ 269... Those suggested prices are nuts; I shall keep buying them in Paraguay or foreign eShops!

Because our goverment is corrupt as fuck

Central America is easily more corrupt than Brazil.

It's more because of ridiculous protectionist measures and the absurdity of considering videogames as "gambling" that makes taxes soar to the sky for them. There's no incentive to have official presence, Nintendo knows the gray market provides the consoles and those are still sales for them even if they only count as "North American" sales, and they save themselves the hassle of dealing with Brazil's insane burocracy at the same time.

Yes but the Canadian dollar itself is also fucked, so games are like $80 pre-tax

Weird. Im from peru and I still buy from the canadian store. I bought Fire emblem echoes and my credit card says it costed $39.25 us dollars.

I was under the impresion I was paying more on the canadian shop but I actually dont.

Don't worry my friends, with our current US administration, we too may join in on the party with our own 20% border adjustment tax on imports.

We're all protectionist now.
