E3 2017 - Hopes. Dreams. Predictions

Can I get an Onimusha HD collection? I feel like I replay Onimusha 1-3 at least once every couple years or so and having these on my PS4 would mean that my PS2 is basically retired. They deserve this.

Hell I've even gone so far as thinking about what they could do for trophies for the first couple games.

I guess you can classify these as either Hopes or Dreams.

The next Batman game (Rocksteady or otherwise): I just really have an itch to dig into a new Batman game, and those rumors from earlier in the year have me in anticipation.
Don't hold your breath. This seems to be getting an internal reboot at WB Montreal and Rocksteady is done with Batman. I'm expecting to hear about WB Montreal closing within the year.

It will be 12 minutes and we will be looking at the clock saying "my god this is taking the whole presentation! We already know ARMS exists, nintendo! Please PLEASE show us something new!"
I keep hearing that in pessimistic predictions, but it's completely mitigated by the Arms Direct. I doubt we'll hear about it for more than a couple of minutes, otherwise that Direct was useless. We're going to see more Odyssey, FE Warriors, Xeno 2, and Splatoon 2 here.

Yeah, this was my main concern with that. Don't know how fast they could turn that around to have like a CG teaser or something to show at Sony or wherever.

At the same time I think it's possible to see Rocksteady's new game at Sony's conference considering Arkham games have had trailers at their past 3 E3 conferences.

Closing it would have some heavy implications. I do see them being restructured, though.

Edit: it's probably too soon for Rocksteady's next game, no? Maybe PSX?

Yeah it depends what "rebooting" means and how much is actually changing. A CG trailer is entirely possible but Jason Schreir said the other day that he doesn't expect anything from them for a long while. Not sure I necessarily believe that however because I imagine a studio that hasn't released a game in 3 years starting completely over and having nothing in the near future would just get closed down.

Not necessarily. Arkham Knight released two years ago so I think that's ample time for them to have something ready to show for their next game.

Rocksteady is pretty good at revealing games too early with a CG trailer. I wouldn't be shocked if they're at Sony's presser.

Nintendo’s activities at E3 kick off with the Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video presentation, featuring a closer look at the Super Mario Odyssey game and new details for Nintendo Switch™ games launching this year.

"New details" suggests that Nintendo will be talking about the titles that were announced in the January Direct. The only remaining games other than Super Mario Odyssey are: Splatoon 2 (which has been periodically updated), Fire Emblem Warriors (somewhat debatable since it's not a first party title), and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (fairly confident it's coming out this year). ARMS has been covered the last few months--it may only make a minimal appearance in the Spotlight.

It doesn't, but the meltdown that would come from what you're implying would be epic.

I forgot to mention that they'll definitely talk about titles further out such as Fire Emblem and unannounced titles for this year and the next. I did not mean to imply that they'll only focus on the announced games.

I'm hoping for the new rocksteady game and I'm hoping it's a licensed superhero game. Arkham has been one of the greatest series to me and I can't wait to see what the team tackles next.

Arkham knight also released two years ago and it had its first trailer a year earlier than launch. I think they could have some form of teaser going for them.

Definitely think From Software will be there to show off something, either their Armored Core game, Souls-like game (which may or may not be VR) or their new IP from Miyazaki. Either way, that's all I really need this E3 to be happy. Aside from that, hopefully Nintendo surprise me, Sony conference has some cool third party gems (as well as Shenmue HD Collection announcement) and Microsoft show off something cool and Platinum Games show off something for any of them too. Kojima's probably going to show off another cool trailer for Death Stranding too, it's his gig after all.

It contained brief shots of in-game scenes, but everything before the tape played was pre-rendered.
Nah man, I'm pretty sure the reveal at Sony's conference had a consistent gameplay segment (the guy wakes up, answers the phone, goes downstairs, explores the kitchen, sees Jack, etc) before the tape bit. The E3 trailer they released after the conference was different and I think that's what you are remembering.

Hoping for Cyberpunk 2077, but it's probably too early to show much of anything.

You can wish all you want, that teaser trailer from 2015 was something special. Nothing like that will happen. That game is still years away. CDPR likes to take their time on their games. Give it another 2 years and maybe in 2019 we will see something...

Man, looking at the release schedule for this fall, there better be a damned blow out of release dates (and games for that matter) this E3.

The tailer was from 2013

In terms of Nintendo...

Hopes:

Pikmin 1-3 collection HD
Mario 64/Sunshine/Galaxy in HD
Heavier than expected 3DS support
My Nintendo App/ Online Service details

Dreams:

AAA Metroid FPS (not Prime)
Virtual Console games
My Nintendo overhaul
Some AAA 3rd party games like COD

Predictions:

To be underwhelmed just like the last few years

The main thing i really hope Sony shows is more Death Stranding from Kojima. Besides that i would really like to see GT Sport, God of War and Last of Us 2.
Also my dream would be for CDPR to show up and show something more about Cyberpunk 2077

Hopes: The Scorpio is mind meltingly amazing, and their VR solution is easy, cheap and good.

Nintendo- Has some mature games in the pipeline to fill the obvious hole in their line up.

Sony- hints at PS5.

Dreams: Nintendo talks about Switch+ coming out in 2019, has Nvidia on stage to talk vague power.

Predictions: Nintendo- two surprise core aimed games announced/shown. 1st party. A surprise 3rd party core game as well for the fall. Hopeful prediction- Elder scrolls bundle to help push it.

MS: Scorpio priced lower than people expected and games blow everyone and everything but the high end PC away. VR headset is very good for the price.

3rd parties: Capcom, SE, Namco double down on Switch seeing its sucess, EA dips its pinky toe in with a Madden game. We hear about the next batch of games coming to Switch.

And exclusive fighter from Capcom, or Namco, collab with Nintendo.

Just add in Sucker Punch's new IP and a From Software reveal for Sony and this would all be perfect imo.

Note how I didn't put Kojima's game on my 'list', so I think they are saving that and Sucker Punch's project for PSX. I could see From Software announce a new project at E3 for PlayStation but we will see.

Predictions:
Three news PS4 Exclusives revealed
PS4 $199 price 1tb
PS4 Pro $299 1tb

Physical PS4 slate game comes out on Micro SD cards. Internal space of PlayStation4 Slate is 128gb and allows you to hook up an external drive for games.

Creaking

He touched the black heart of a mod
Dreams:

Dreams release date & beta

CTR remastered & Spyro Trilogy hinted at

Soul Calibur VI or MK9 style reboot (not happening so close to Tekken, I know)

Virtua Fighter VI

Skate 4

Dragon's Dogma 2

Nintendo:
-Obviously Odyssey.
-I think this could finally be Metroid's year.
-Whatever the fuck Retro's doing finally shows up.
-Sun/Moon's third version for Switch and it's rad as fuck
-Mario vs Rabbids
-Ubisoft surprises everyone with a new Rayman, to release next year with Legends Definitive this year to prime you for entry
-Pikmin
-A whole buncha stuff they already announced is revisited
-finish on new smash (new-ish anyway)

Microsoft:
-SCORPIO ERRWHERE; everything demoed on scorpio
-Ori sequel
-Rare does some Sea of Thieves stuff, then Banjo-Kazooie, but it's monkey-pawed somehow
-Halo
-I know basically nothing about Microsoft's line up and expect most of it will be new

Sony (this one's more of my personal dreams):
-God of War starts us off again, something setpiecey to show that it's not entirely detached from old GOW. Summer 2018 release date revealed.
-Dreams
-SPIDER-MAN
-Ape Escape: Subtitle Involving Monkey Pun announced, utilizing all the weird shit on the PS4 controller no one else uses well, maybe optional VR.
-Ape Escape 3 on PS4 right this second to get you in the mood.
-Sly Cooper: The Movie trailer.
-But E3 is about games, says Sony Person, and thus, Sly Five, which isn't based on the movie. This fall. Sanzaru.
-Jak and Daxter are back in a new game, and it's out next Spring. The PS4 versions out this fall are to lead up to it. No idea who'd be developing.
-Crash N. Sane Trilogy is shown. Big focus on Coco's levels from Warped mixed into what's essentially a launch trailer. Reveals fully-playable Coco as opposed to just-some-levels Coco.
-Sony Person says "But that's not all." Trailer starts playing, Japan Studio logo, then the shocker: Naughty Dog logo. Crash Bandicoot sequel for May 2018. Behind the scenes it's obviously mostly SIEJ. Activision has 'approval rights' obviously but it's mostly Sony handling it.
-"Oh, and if you like kart racing we'll see you at PSX."
-COD WW2 showcase.
-Big Ol' Destiny 2 showcase.
-Kingdom Hearts 3 shown off, Summer 2018 release date that no one believes they'll hit but they eventually actually do and we look back on this as the god-king of E3s
-Uncharted Lost Legacy near-to-launch showcase.
-TLOU2 no-shows
-Indie game showcase to buffer and wind down the conference with some rad shit
-Sony Person says "Oh, so many great characters and franchises here on PlayStation. They should get together like this more often!" All-Stars 2 announced. May or may not be a smash clone like before, some kind of crossover game is the point.
-The trailer ends with Classic Spyro showing up to join the fray, and then Sony Person says "That's right, Classic Spyro is back. More on that in the near future. Thanks for joining us!"

Spider-Man for fall 2017 isn't very plausible, also don't think we'll see TLoU2 gameplay for a while, that feels like a 2019 game at the earliest.

The one thing I want....just give a proper announcement/release date for Dissidia Arcade already! with a flashy trailer too!

Anything else is probably semi confirmed like Smash for switch.

EDIT: well I guess a US release of Saga Scarlet Grace would blow my mind, but that seems super unlikely sadly.

Edit 2: Updated Hyrule Warriors Port to switch would be great too.

My dream for the Pokemon franchise:
  • create an open world game that integrates all of the various regions introduced throughout the franchise's 21 year history and you just roam around freely and battle all of the gym leaders in any order you want. I just hope GF is thinking about it at least....

All I want for E3mas is a shiny new FFVIIR trailer. I actually had one in a dream last night, which is almost as good as having one in real life. (The trailer in my dream was Yuffie on a small airship mowing down shinra troops. This has no basis in the game at all. But it was still awesome.)

Okay, I lied. I also want a new Crash Bandicoot game modeled after the original trilogy being revealed.
