Capcom files trademark for "Monster Hunter: World" in U.S

also would not make sense with this trademark. if the rumor is true, MH on PS4 will be called 5 because sony paid for it. no way capcom can just come with a spin off title dub it world and release 5 on 3ds or switch. also if its true why wouldnt capcom release XX on Ps4?
If Capcom wants to generate interest in MH with a new audience, I can't think of a worse way to do it than releasing a 3DS port on a PS4.

I've been trying to think of what might make everyone melt down. Since this is Capcom, I'm gonna guess it's revealed as a (timed or full) Xbox exclusive. Because Capcom.

A more likely prediction (still unlikely) is a reveal on the MS stage.

why would they? It's an open world rpg, not a hunting game.Monster Hunter is just a brand at this point, and the water was tested with titles like HZD, which is a really successful game

Has anyone guessed F2P mmo yet? Cause that what I'm going with bet it would do very well too. People love f2p mmos on console and it would increase brand awareness to boot. Seems like a smart move which may be a strike against it for capcom really lol.

Has the name of a spinoff with all the doubts you can infer from that, not sure the platforms it'll land on, so with the xx buildup on switch, looks like the mainline serie gonna get stuck with paid online.
It's always convoluted with mh.

they did it with PS3 and WiiU and both games sold pretty well. nothing like MHTri but still. if the next MH would be on PS4 they would have at least ported MHXX in Japan

because Monster Hunter is the biggest third party franchise after DQ in japan so a numbered series would mean much more sales than a spinoff

Not really. But I don't think people should be writing this off as "a western-focused spin-off" just because of the title of the game.

Will be interesting to check in some days.
I see "westernized" as slightly different tbh. Dragon's Dogma was westernized but still was a really japanese game for example, which didn't help it in the west.

I think the western focused comes because of the rumours. Movie tie-in, open world, more streamlined. I guess it'll depends on how it becomes.

Why would it come to PS4? Seems like Nintendo is Capcoms buddies, not Sony. Is it just a dream? Trust me, A next gen MH on PS4, I'd ship my family away for a month.

I very much doubt it though. Even my fanboy side can't even muster up enough belivability in it.

So switch is going to get a port of a 3ds game while Sony is going to get the new MH? and Sony paid a lot of money so that Xbox can have a MH game without paying anything? or did it also exclude xbox as well as switch?

What are the chances of this being xbox timed exclusive, debut in Scorpio conference because Microsoft is seriously trying to get the heart of Japan with Phil visiting Japan months ago?

It will be a suicide mission for both MS and MH.

The logic of the 4chan rumour goes like this:

- Sony wants to boost PS4 in Japan, knows Xbox is irrelevant, has to beat Switch
- Sony pays Capcom to NOT release the "next" MH on Switch, Xbox who cares
- Capcom goes awww yissss money and now we can bring MH to the West
- 3DS users buy tons and tons of MH copies, Capcom is like "whaaaaaaaaa"
- Capcom decides to continue more traditional series on Switch, releases MH XX first with relatively low cost but big (?) potential (I mean we're talking Capcom here, of course they'd want to cash-in one more time before making a completely new one for Switch)

And now:

- MH World trademark pops up
- Presumably this is the result of that deal, but they don't call it MH 5
- Presumably this will be on anything BUT Switch
- Presumably there will be more traditional MH games for Switch going forward

The trademark was filed on June 5 and his first post was also on June 5. The question is, which came first?

Not sure but he's been confident MH was coming to ps4 for months now. Never wavering despite the harassment he we would recieved for even suggesting it.

So given how Capcom and Sony pushed a previous game out the door we can expect:

Amazing looking areas
Usual Crafting and upgrade system
MH simple character customization
Simple story
and finally
No Monsters

You know that MH took off on Sony system, right? Also, why doesn't the best buddy release games like RE7, SFV, Dragon's Dogma HD, Disney Afternoon Collection etc on Nintendo console?

Capcom is no buddy to anyone. They follow money just like any other companies. They mentioned before that they're trying to make a MH a global franschise so it makes total sense that the next game should be on the platforms that have the largest installed bases, PS4/PC.

Because mainline games more often that not generate more excitement than spin-offs. And there are already spin-offs on the Ps3&Ps4, and the rumor stated that Sony paid for the main thing.

If Itsuno is working on this I want to know what kind of DMC style gameplay systems they can come up with for the Monster Hunter weapons.

If they're not dumbed down like the rumour suggests.

What storyline would you want from a series called Monster Hunter?

Here's hoping this XX or a fully fledged console game with the same traditional MH combat.

Some shonen bullocks with a monster hunting guild, Animu tropes and legendary monsters to hunt down, done. Nothing fancy or sophisticated but definitely nicer than nothing/current status quo.

I mean, if it ends up being D'sD2 but called "MHW" i wouldn't be that mad.

I was pretty meh about E3 but now this thread has me biting my nails.

I hope they do a full reveal, gameplay and all that. If it's just a teaser I'll be mad pissed. I need to see this in action!

so aside of a random forum post at 4chan there is nothing to back this up. on the other hand MHXX is already announced on Switch so this very well might be just MHXX in Europe/US

I really hope this one is a proper open world.
I don't understand why the older games were so weirdly segmented.

because the game is all about fighting monsters in an arena and hunting down monsters around the world.. both aspects benefit from the segmented structure.

Xbox is completely irrelevant to this. The value of Monster Hunter is Japan. Xbox is irrelevant in Japan. As long as PS gets it I doubt they'd care one way or another about an Xbone port.

They aren't going to cause unneccessary confusion by giving the extended version of MH Generations an entirely new name. XX will be called Generations Ultimate or something similar.

Except this is apparently a westernised Monster Hunter aimed at broadening the userbase to a worldwide audience. In that sense, Xbox One is a factor (though still a relatively small factor since it's a Japanese game at the end of the day).
