Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

I kinda don't trust this guy but it was worth the CEO Kaz Hirai comment

Lol, yeah that was pretty good.

I don't want to believe this. I guess I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being true, I just don't want it to be true.

I expected this or more. They are pumping this thing as a premium powerhouse. Why on earth would they sell that for $399.

Have Geoff leaked stuff like this before? Seems very unlike him.

The dude makes a living by being funded by the big 3 to make award shows and this E3 show too. He isn't going to make a massive leak like this without having approval from higher ups at Microsoft.

This is a Hideo Kojima level play. It's all been leading to $399.

I am sceptical. Given that it is a year later than the Pro, I think it is more likely it will retail at what that did when it was released. Still the Pro hasn't dropped yet, and this thing is more powerful.

If Scorpio is $499, today's MS conference better be spectacular or I see a Pro in my future and not a Scorpio any time soon.

I was, and still am, pretty hyped for the Scorpio, but at that price... Good luck MS.

In France we start to find the PS4 Pro at 349€, even 399€ with Horizon and a 2nd controller... And Sony here is God, everybody want a PS4 nobody gives a fuck about the Xbox One (even in sale at 149€, nobody want them...), so a Scorpio at 499€, lol, it's so dead.

Even me as a huge fan of MS (I'm fan of MS, Sony, Nintendo in fact...) I'd be out. To sell me a 499€ console, you must have a shitload of exclusive games.

399€ would be awesome, 449€ would be kinda acceptable, 499€ and it's dead.

If you thought the Pro wasn't selling well...yikes if this is true. I really thought this was going to be $399. Now it feels even more like a sneak a next gen console on everyone and pretend for the time being it's an upgrade kind of situation.

It's amusing to me that even after the Switch shoved crow down so many mouths on here, the same hordes of naysayers are still eager to proclaim this platform dead before it's even officially announced.

I mean it's still an Xbox One. releasing a new console isn't going to fix much of anything in regards to how much it sells.

It's certainly justifiable at that price but it doesn't exist in a vacuum, and that's where the problem is. At the start* of this gen they were same price but weaker. Now they are stronger but more expensive and a year late. LOL.

Geoff Keighley is making those tweets in the context of a poll he ran, where 40% of his followers voted $499. I don't know if he actually has any inside information, or he's just agreeing with the poll results to be cute.

I'm not sure why he's to be trusted any more than Michael Pachter, really.

That's why it feel like controlled leak.
I’m completely in this camp.
Microsoft seems wry aware of the hardcore.

The digital foundry reveal. The leaking of info via Windows 10 code releases. They’re probably lurking Reddit and neogaf as we speak.

I’m still saying $399

My head says that if its 399, I buy today (I am guessing pre-orders should be up today or tomorrow)

If its 499, I should waiting and see what Sony has to say about the pricing for the Pro tomorrow.

I have been using an Xbox One and not had any issues with 900P vs 1080, so realistically, Checkerboard 4K vs Actual 4K shouldn't be an issue.

Plus I would get to play games that I have never played before. (Sony exclusives)

My gut says I will probably buy Scorpio regardless of the price. (I am hip dip into the Microsoft as it is and I really don't want to deal with different consoles)

I never understand Neogaf, you spend this much on headphones and a pair of jeans, but when it's for a 6 teraflop games console, with 10gb ram and a 4k blu-ray drive, the sky has fallen in.

Given that this is a higher tier xbox to compliment the current system (which is getting a $50 cut at E3), I don't understand how anybody thought this would be priced hyper aggressively.

I buy every console without question, but I think I'm done paying more than $399 for consoles under any context. Boy bye if this shit is true.

Would he really put his credibility on the line for a play?

Pretty much what I guessed it would cost. Since this thing is more powerful than the Pro no way it would cost $399. $499 would still be selling it at a loss right? Don't know how much the build amounts to be.

Maybe some genius at MS said since we'll sell it at loss make the price point as high as possible like that we will sell fewer units so less loss.........

This is pure genius!

If the price gets confirmed, which means Scorpio will be 499,- € in EU, then they should skip Germany and save some shipping costs. It will be dead prior to it's arrival.

If this is the better version of the Xbox One, € 500 sounds fine. Just better make sure to get that Xbox One S itself under € 200, since PS4 is selling for that when on sale here now.

I mean I can understand the price with what you're getting but at that price I don't see it selling much.

But all we are getting is better resolution/slightly improved visuals. No exclusive games, no gameplay improvements... no reason to drop 500.

I could understand if this was an entirely new system with new games and a guaranteed 6+ year life cycle, but for slightly improved visuals that most won't even notice once they're immersed in the game, it just seems ridiculous.

The difference being that the whole "Doritos Pope" debacle was an unintended consequence of the situation. Beyond the meme-worthy resolution of the affair, the marketing deal couldn't have been any different from any other marketing deal in existence.

Now, if Keighley has willingly entered a deal by which he claims something he knows isn't true just so Microsoft can have a big "gotcha!" moment on stage... Man, that's a shitty way to dynamite your credibility. Next time he has some juicy insider info nobody will believe him.

So, yeah. I don't think this is a PR stunt, especially considering Microsoft has stated in the past that they are aiming for a "premium product". That, or Keighley is a souless mercenary who would sell his credibility in a heartbeat... which I don't think he is.
