28-minute long Assassin's Creed: Origins alpha gameplay

Why does the game looks so mediocre visually? the lighting is almost on a last gen level.

Not impressed by this at all, though the guy playing it might not give the game enough justice.
Download the uncompressed demo from gamersyde It's actually incredibly gorgeous without youtube compression. The difference between that and this is actually pretty stunning.

I don't like the new combat direction. One of my favorite things about earlier AC games was the parry/counterattack system and that seems to be gone.

Is this impressing for any of you guys? Because it sure isn't for me...it's exactly like all the previous AC's. Sure, the setting is sort of cool but that's it. Oh, and there is the bird mechanic I guess...which they copied from Far Cry Primal...

Seriously, is Ubisoft really this creatively bankrupt? Or am I being too harsh?

I was doing my best to stay awake during Microsoft press conference. But once the AC gameplay started I couldn't anymore lol

Now granted I'm no assassins creed fan, I checked out 20 or 30 minutes into the first game. But usually gameplay premieres are interesting. This was not.

Haven't played since Black Flag. It seems like there's still boat/ship mechanics in this one? I'm in if that's the case.

Doesn't really look like taking a year or so off really helped to shake things up :/

Not really sure what exactly you are expecting. The new combat system will hopefully be good and maybe they will change up the mission structure and have better more varied side content like the tombs in the ezio trilogy. It will still be an Assassin's Creed game.

we waited all these years for this??? it does not play differently or has a dramatic overhaul compared to the other AC

Again what exactly are people looking for? They arent going to change the gameplay to something unrecognizable. There is an entirely new combat system and we dont know enough about side missions or mission structure to make such claims yet. A new climbing system would be cool though.

If you enjoyed previous AC games, than yes you are being harsh... if you are tired of the formula then no...

I am in the former camp and am pretty excited for this game... but I can understand the fatigue setting in for this type of game. I think it helps that this will release 2 years after Syndicate instead of annually as the past like 3 ACs have done.

Also, why do so many people think this game is all of a sudden an RPG? Do you not remember the skil trees from previous games? Both Unity and Syndicate had a 3 tiered skill tree... It just wasn't as connected like this web is. But this literally looks identical in terms of the clsses... Warrior is your combat tree, Hunter is your Stealth tree and Seer is your Eco tree. Skills are nothing new...

All these years?
And it does play different. The whole control scheme and how combat works is changed.
And its more a RPG now with different levels for enemies.

I thought this was supossed to be somewhat of a reboot? It looks exactly like a continuation of the franchise. I mean, I like AC games, but it lacks the fresh layer of paint I was expecting, despite the cool setting. Combat looks extremely dull here.

AC Syndicate also had levels for enemies, with different requirements to use certain skills. And it also had several skill trees for upgrades. From the looks of it the expanded on that, but I don't see anything really new here.

They specifically gave this game an RPG focus right down to straight up name dropping the sphere grid from FFX as the inspiration for the skill tree in this game. Stats are much more important than ever, like not being able to instant kill if your hidden blade stat isn't strong enough.

It goes abit deeper here with stats etc. I mean in Syndicate it was more a hybrid kinda thing. But this looks like a full rpg.

Tired of AC formula. Played them all until Unity, finally got bored and skipped Syndicate, was hoping this would be s BoTW style major exciting reboot of the gameplay but it just looks more of the same.

Those combat animation looks pretty horrid. He hit a guy at 11:44 and the enemy just teleported. Also, lose the trails or make them more nuanced (if you're taking inspiration from the Witcher 3, why not go all the way).

Yeah I was kinda hoping they would just ditch their mission design entirely and go minimal story with the focus on climbing and exploring like BOTW. This just looks the same as before except you use a bird for the annoying shit. Can't wait to trail my mission objective with a bird for an inordinate amount of time!

finally watched this and I'm not really sold on this approach of making it straight up an RPG game. I already disliked the star levels in Unity despite liking the game very much overall.

I want items to make for different playstyles more than just be number crunch. It also makes the attack look like they have no impact, you're slicing someone up and he isn't even hurt.

Well you are still a Assassin. ;)

Unfortunately Darby McDevitt, (Revelations and Black Flag), isn't the writer. :(

I was hoping for more to separate this game from it's predecessors. Ubi seems to be trying to mix the most successful elements of their open world franchises into this game. but it still looks like it plays exactly like you'd expect Assassin's Creed to play.

I really want to be wrong though. I'd love it if this game turns out great. Egypt would be fascinating to explore.

I haven't played Black Flag but Revelations' story honestly wasn't very good IMO.
Revelations was what the dude was able to do in ten months, Black Flag was so much better with it's character interactions.
