28-minute long Assassin's Creed: Origins alpha gameplay

I have mixed feelings on this footage, but why does this dude never locks on in combat?

Anyway the lighting on those faces seems flat.
Maybe some HBAO will help on PC.

Any highlights? Dont want to spoil myself 28 min of a certain buy.

I'd bet because, as many many many other outlets, the people they actually send to play games know how to speak to the camera but have little to no idea how to play videogames.

I think I've heard that you can switch between the new and legacy combat system. Perhaps he's using the legacy combat?

And yes, the characters don't look too hot. The environments are fabulous though, and the horse looks pretty easy to control as well.

The player is just doing random things and exploring. He's so bad at the game as well, died a few times.

The combat looks horrible, but that partly might be the guy playing.

All seems to be mostly business as usual but with an Egyptian skin.

I got SO hyped when I saw loot and XP in Assassin's Creed.

Then I saw the trailer and I felt... numb.

Will check this out, thanks.

Worth noting that the guy playing has little to no prior experience with the game [obviously], the gameplay on display here isn't exactly high quality. Wouldn't jump to too much conclusions regarding combat and stuff based on this alone.

Well, it's Assassin's Creed.

Though it feels a little bit more fresh cause of change of environment (cityscapes -> jungle, desert and southern Mediterranean)

Is this impressing for any of you guys? Because it sure isn't for me...it's exactly like all the previous AC's. Sure, the setting is sort of cool but that's it. Oh, and there is the bird mechanic I guess...which they copied from Far Cry Primal...

Seriously, is Ubisoft really this creatively bankrupt? Or am I being too harsh?

Fortunately for me, I haven't played any Assassin's Creed game besides trying 2 and Black Flag for a little bit back then. So everything will be fresh for me.

Same as usual, will give a it a try with a huge discount.
btw, I never saw anyone playing assassin's that bad, lol.

Did you play black flag?

I never lock on either. I prefer combat without it.

The bird mechanic is just the drone mechanic from Watch Dogs 2.

Excuse my ignorance, but doesn't 'alpha' mean this is a very early build of the game? With the game releasing in the fall, should we really only be getting 'alpha' footage, or am I misunderstanding this?

In video games Alpha is beta and Beta is release candidate.

That's how devs label their pre-release version games nowadays. But don't expect too many improvements for the release version. There will be optimizations and minor fixes, but this is what mostly we will get in October.

There should be more tampons in gaming
Combat seems ehhh, the world looks well realized though and that's plenty impressive.

Well I sort of agree. At the end of the day it looks like I'd have expected to without a year hiatus. I expected something to be completely revamped.

The game looks like it has medium graphics settings, no HBAO+ and maybe some old animations ?
Basically looks like a standard XBO/PS4 version. Unity and Syndicate shined on high-résolutions/Ultra on PC

Also you can't really judge the combat with that awful player.

The bird mechanic is just the drone mechanic from Watch Dogs 2.

It comes from Far Cry Primal, which was released before WD2.

Yeah, I can't watch that. Dude doesn't shut up for more than a few seconds. Trying to listen to hear if there is ambient music and it seems like there is not. Yeah yeah, don't tell me it's alpha build because there is music in the game.

As long as it plays at a smooth framerate, doesn't crash every 15 minutes, and the story seems engaging, I'll show up ready to buy every AC Ubisoft releases.

This looks so bad, especially coming from Zelda and Horizon.

The only redeeming feature so far for me is the setting, everything else looks terrible.

Why does the game looks so mediocre visually? the lighting is almost on a last gen level.

Not impressed by this at all, though the guy playing it might not give the game enough justice.

Having another look at the combat - I hope they do away with the childish looking trail left by the characters weapon. Theres no need for that surely.

The enemy health bars are straight out from For Honor. I don't really understand why Ubisoft loves homogenizing their games so much.

They've made some changes here and there, but they're looking kind of superficial to be honest. It's not as extensive a makeover as I thought.

There's no need for your current mission and sub-objectives to be displayed at all times either, but here we are.

That too bad from the stage presentation it looked like dark souls a bit with the way the camera dropped down behind the character and he was using the shield to parry. The setting to me is a total misfire so I was hoping the gameplay was going to be quite improved. I like assassin's creed so will probably get it regardless so I hope the two year wait brings good stuff.

Agreed. That looks so gamey for a franchise that's trying to look realistic.

How does this look worse than Unity? How have they done nothing but go backward in the graphics department?

So that people would stop bitching about the bad performance and glitches. I'm not saying that this will be free of them though. Just a guess.

I mean, I had that on XB1, but it wasn't enough for me to stop enjoying it. It felt like a true next gen step up and I appreciated the added ability for stealth. I like these changes, but man, I expected something a little more.
