Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus trailer (PC/XB1/PS4, Oct 27th, idtech6), season pass

Bad guy asking someone in disguise for identification is nothing new

Machinegames' style is all about monologues and tense sequences like this, surely influenced by Tarantino, but it's not a copy or anything

Thats true. And im not trying to be negative. If anything its a compliment i guess.

It just felt like it was identical to the movie. Maybe i can find the clip and compare.

My most anticipated game of E3 so far, behind the dishonoured 2 fox, metro, and the hope that evil within can be good

Super excited to see how they improve on the combat and if they make the story more goofy and serious at the same time

What is the Inglorious clip you're thinking of? The one with Micheal Fassbender in the bar where they're playing the card game? Haven't seen the movie in years but that's the closest thing I can think of

Last game, you had dream sequence mini-games that took you back to old school Wolfenstein. I wonder if this time it is LSD mini-games instead...
I could see something like the LSD changes the visuals of the level you're on to look like classic Wolf

Also gotta be real, seeing Fergus in that trailer was fuckin hype.

Mick Gordon tweeted a TNO quote during the trailer reveal last night, so that's enough for me to think he's still involved.

And let's hope so, because TNO's soundtrack was incredible: https://youtu.be/rcrn8Gng9NY
Mick is to Bethesda as Trent Reznor is to David Fincher at this point, I'd be very surprised if he wasn't doing it.

I wonder if the level design and combat will be changed up in reaction to how well Doom was received.

FTR, Adolf & the like don't exist in this timeline, correct? It felt weird you couldn't fight cyborg Adolf in the previous game.

The game looks phenomenal, even more so than The New Order, which was fucking awesome.

It was a mix. Your health only regenerated up to 20 points. To replenish it further you needed to pick up more health packs. But those 20 regenerating points still means that taking cover for a short period is beneficial to the player. So you find yourself stopping and starting more than something like DOOM.

And yeah, having to click on the pickups made sense if each and every health pack had the potential to overboost you. I'd rather see an approach like DOOM where only special health items overboost you. That would make it so the player can just run around collecting health without worrying about wasting an overboost, all the while you can still overboost by finding a special item (Mega Health or Mega Armor) that you're less likely to collect by mistake.

Hmm, well guess it depends how you play. It really didn't seem to affect how the games played for me. I ran through them on Uber hardly ever stopping (don't like cover, prefer to rush and dodge). In fact I had to specifically make myself play a certain way to get that perk unlock for kills from cover.

The way DOOM handled health is another way to go I suppose. I would mean placing the MH near trickier sections and hoping the player finds it. In DOOM it was very obvious when that was going to be and you triggered the arena fights when you were ready.
Frankly in Wolf, I usually just snaffled all the health whenever I found it because often you couldn't tell if you were going to be able to return and I don't like leaving items uncollected, so overboost was probably wasted. Either way, I'm going to really enjoy this game. =)

If I'm not mistaken TNO was originally delayed because they were getting feedback that it was too "COD" or whatever and was too linear. After the delay feedback was way more positive. DOOM then of course blew the doors off completely

I definitely think DOOM will be an influence on the game but it's still going to be a crazy linear narrative game. Interested to see the balance. Honestly I think walking down a hallway melting dudes with shotguns is a highlight of TNO and they obviously know this from the trailer haha

iirc, Hitler exists but the reason we didn't fight him is because the creators think that would be the end of the series, as in "where do we go from here?"

EDIT: A nazi soldier says "heil Hitler" at a checkpoint in London too.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

Hitler does exist and there are several bits of info and such from the first game that high light this. We don't see much of him though because the developers don't want the entire game to focus on killing Hitler. That said I don't think the developers ruled out taking him on and for all we know that might be a part of the sequel. If they do I hope for insane mecha Hitler or something along those lines.

I like that reasoning. Plus it gives some space to other villains, like the superb Frau Engel and Totenkopf. I can't think of many villains that a game makes you despise more than them.

Huh, interesting. Sounds good.

The "problem" I had with TNO is that while that was possible, you'd be getting shot the entire time. Doing cool shit isn't as satisfying when your screen is filling up with jelly vision. Thus I felt relegated to staying back and/or taking cover a lot to play optimally considering that's what enemy placement and terrain was geared toward. Not that there's anything inherently wrong with that, stuff like sniping dudes with dual silenced pistols is a different kind of satisfaction.

I just want to say how much I love the first TNO and Old Blood. This looks fucking amazing - now with idtech 6 behind it the tech can finally catch up with the amazing art and story of the first game.

This look great, and I expect it to be the Doom of 2017 which will end near the top of the gaf GOTY list. What I love the most about the TNO campaign was the various locations that you would visit and how it could affect the gameplay (underwater, moon base, etc).

This should be one of the best FPS campaign ever (or modern at worst), depending on how they executed their ideas.

I never played the other two, I want to but I am wondering which one to play first (if both of them?) Talking about New Order and Old Blood.

I heard about the speed being nauseating, but I had no problem with Doom, assuming I should be fine with this?

Hitler existed in TNO, a checkpoint guard says "Heil Hitler" at one point, but the developers said they wanted to focus on their own fictional villains and Hitler would distract from that. Like, once you show Hitler, the game is about Hitler, not Deathshead and Frau Engel, etc.

So is this going to have a open world/hub world kind of thing going on?

We're not sure yet, but if it's anything like the last game, it will have a small hub area that you return to between missions, where you can talk to the other resistance members and do side quests.

The Old Blood is set before The New Order and is smaller. The New Order is essential. The Old Blood not so much. You can tell it had less time spent on its development. It's like a companion piece for those who are itching for a bit more Blazko.

I think it varies level by level but, in general, I rarely felt like I needed to play TNO like a cover shooter. I spent most of the time dual wielding and strafing.

Okay, I'll start with The New Order and if I love it I'll grab Old Blood as well. Thanks! Pretty stoked to play this.

This needs to happen.

The industrial design in the last game, like this one, is top notch. The 1946 chain gun was basically a rotary MG42 (multiple barrels) which then evolved into the laser MG42. This game seems to show off the same great incremental industrial features to weapons that the last game showed off so well (the semi auto shotgun is now multiple barrel rotary).

I hope this game has a similarly diversity of level types... TNO was great at that.
God, should I reinstall TNO?`! :D

To be fair, you are not punching them. In fact, I'm not even sure the game supports simple melee combat, since a lot of the Nazis are quite heavily armored.
And no one said anything against knifing, shooting, exploding or incinerating nazis.

Is that John Coltrane in the hideout that's receiving pot-shots from the streets?

That trailer was incredible and definitely the best thing to come out of E3 so far.

I need to finally get around to playing The Old Blood. How is it compared to the base game?
More focus on combat, less on story. Also has a mode where you can replay the big combat areas (think Uncharted 4 here) with scoring and leaderboards.

Thought it made for a nice change-up after The New Order.
