Watching off screen footage from E3 and wow, I take back most of what I said about Odessey. Looks beautiful. That garbage compressed 720p trailer they released did them no favors, looks so much better in 1080p60

Honestly, i don't know what nintendo has against the dive as it was in 64. This seemed like an appropiate game for it to return, yet the go with a buffed roll instead?

After watching footache of people who use the roll more, it seems fun to use when going down a slope. If you try using the roll when going up hill, you fall backwards. When going down hill, mario gains a lot of speed quickly, naturally. Looks great, seems practical. I'd say that that should be its main use

However, making it also the traversal option on flat ground, for extended periods of use, seems lame. On flat ground, its slower, you've to be mashing a button, and its all around very limited compared to 64's dive.

Why not let you do the dive from the ground and give it a follow up, exactly like in 64? Miyamoto already did it better 1996.

Watching the E3 trailers directly on the Switch screen is a *wow* experience, especially Odyssey. It looks so so good in handeled mode !

So I just rewatched the trailer and it looks like the black and white Nightmare Before Christmas looking world is the Cap Kingdom, so we have effectively seen all of the kingdoms on that map. I guess I wouldn't be surprised either way if there are more kingdoms or not.

The mushroom kingdom has to go/be somewhere.

I've got it. The story of Super Mario Odyssey will be
based on Homer's Odyssey.

Mario is 'dead' and a 'ghost'. He probably gets Game Overed in the beginning of the game as a joke. Cappy is also a ghost. Hence the possession powers.
Mario does various trials around the globe to try and rescue Peach and slay the suitor Bowser. Peach thinks Mario is dead, hence is going ahead with the wedding. Just like Penelope from The Odyssey.

What is the possibility they add DLC worlds to this game? Nintendo seem to be embracing DLC these days and it would be interesting if they kept supporting this through 2018

Still i would be surprised if there are only 6 kingdoms and they showed 3 in that demo, with a good amount of content. Wouldn't that be a pretty big portion of the game for a demo ?

This has probably already been discussed, but can someone identify the game's referenced in this pic:

Picross, Qix (Gameboy), NES Open Tournament Golf and Yoshi's Cookie.

I don't see that happening. I would've expected an announcement like that to be at E3 but they never said anything like that so I wouldn't expect it.

They showed 3 very small pieces of those worlds. On day 2 especially, they made it their mission to emphasize the fact that each world is MASSIVE. So I wouldn't be to worried about that.

It's difficult for me to really have an idea of how those worlds are organized from the footage. Seems each world is a hub to many sub levels i guess.

They said it already I think? Miyamoto said that it is like a re-telling of the OG Odyssey. I might be paraphrasing (is that a word even?) here...

Anyone familiar with Homer (not Simpson) can glimpse familiar themes just from the trailer.

Your spesific theory might be a little out of this world, but the overall theme is as clear as the drink in my glass right now.

I don't think that I even need to put spoiler tags there, but some people are quite dense with these things sometimes, and maybe they don't actually know anything about the game's namesake... Then they will get all angry and salty when they think that someone is spoiling the big surprise.

I have the same issues tbh, no idea how big this game is at all, but from what we've seen and heard I'm hopeful for the better.

I can say that in one of the things I saw, they accidentally accessed an underground subsection of the forest greenhouse world that they didnt want to show much of, so they went up a grown beanstalk into a different segment of the surface world that wasn't where they were originally. It might be that each world, in their own way, are multilayered.

Homers Odyssey was on my reading list so I guess I'll bump it up and read it before October.

Wired posted this hands-on article:
http://www.wired.co.uk/article/super-mario-odyssey-hands-on-nintendo-switch-e3-2017

Super Mario Odyssey isn't a video game – it is pure happiness distilled into digital form. Everything about the game – or at least the two demo builds Nintendo presented at E3 2017 – sparks joy on an almost primeval level. Between the colourful and ingeniously designed worlds, the uplifting music, the sublime new ways Mario interacts with his surroundings, and the very existence of new companion character Cappy, we're pretty sure it's impossible not to crack a smile while playing.

About the same feeling for Gamerant:
https://gamerant.com/super-mario-odyssey-e3-2017-preview-demo/
For an E3 demo, Super Mario Odyssey’s hands-on preview did everything it set out to do. It showed off new mechanics, highlighted some of the visual diversity in the worlds, and left this writer with a smile on his face. It has been a long time since a proper 3D Mario has released and by and large Odyssey feels like a return to form for Nintendo.

Sand Kingdom - Wedding ring
Wooded Kingdom - Flowers
Cap Kingdom - Wedding outfits (Speculation)
Metro Kingdom - Musicians
Cascade Kingdom - No idea
Luncheon Kingdom (amalgam of the words lunch and pantheon) - Catering for the wedding (Speculation)
Moon (Speculation) - Location of the Wedding (Speculation)

The Nintendo minute video confirmed that the Mushroom Kingdom is on the same "earth" as all the other kingdoms in the game.

I think that i found a little move, that mario can do, that you didn't catch.

In this video, you can see mario do the kind of spin that he can do in the new super mario bros series, to stal a bit in the air.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=al8Q9E-HkIQ

Can be seen at 2:40, 6:53 and 6:57 in the video.

basically the same as in Galaxy, the luma - enabled spin jump. in galaxy its good for extended jumps, and homing butt slams (and the spin is used for other things too of course)
also that eurogamer guy is frustrating to watch play lol

I am leaning towards the Cap Kingdom being some sort of tutorial world to teach you the basics of the capture mechanic and using Cappy. I also think that the frog will be the first thing Mario captures in the game, this is because it is marked clearly on the map and there also seems to be a special cinematic for it in the trailer. None of the other captures have this cinematic.

Looks like the mushroom kingdom might be that island near the cap and cascade island?

Luncheon Kingdom (amalgam of the words lunch and pantheon)

Lunch is thought to be a shortened form of the word Luncheon from middle English. Although nowadays a Luncheon may be organised as a formal midday meal. It's not a combined word.
