I look forward to the new episode of NVC every week. It really won't be the same without him. Whoever replaces him has big shoes to fill. Most importantly, though, I wish him every bit of luck in his future! I hope he moves on to greater things.

Sam use to host and is a decent fill in host. He's too busy with guides though. Feels like they need another editor that leans into Nintendo despite not having specific content teams anymore. That person should be the new host.

I feel like they could have a short period of Sam or Brian or whoever filling in as host, but then hire someone completely new to do this. I don't know who that would be, but currently I don't see anyone at IGN with the same combination of poise and passion to lead a Nintendo show as well as Jose.

This seems to happen to a lot of Nintendo editors at IGN over the years. Anyway, I bet Jose is reading this.

Congrats on the new gig!

Wow, awesome news. You rule, Jose. Former IGN Nintendo people either end up at Apple or Nintendo/Golin-Harris! Nice stepping stone.

NVC fronted by Peer and Fran, please. Brian can come too.

WOW! Congratulations Jose!
Thank you for years of entertainment on NVC and I hope your future at Nintendo is bright and successful.

I don't know if IGN has someone as professional as Jose. He doesn't drop F-bombs every three sentences. Jose always has his facts checked and research was on point.

TBH, it always felt as though Jose was biding his time until the opportunity arose to get his foot in the door at the big N. At least that's the impression I had in the 4 years since I've (intermittently) tunes into his contributions.

Good for him.

Disappointing as a Nintendo fan though. He'd done a great job of helping turn the channel around and I was enjoying it the most I had in 10 years when Matt and Bozon were running things.

Listening to NVC on a Saturday morning when I'm getting out of bed and getting a shower is one of my weekend habits these days.

Yep, I havent been listening too long. But I was amazed he wasnt the typical IGN guy.

"This guy actually knows his shit."

Wow, that's awesome for him! I'll really miss him on NBC though :( At least Peer and Brian are still sticking around. NVC won't be the same though

Crazy news! To be honest, I hardly know anyone at IGN anymore but I enjoy Jose's work. He did a great job on NVC, which I had quit listening to before he took over. I wish him the best.

Wohooo! José living the dream now! I wonder if he will appear now on the upcoming Treehouse streams? I hope so! Wishing you all the best on this new journey!

Thanks for all the kind words, GAF. And thanks for the supporting me and the show. Peer and Brian will keep NVC going. This isn't the end of anything, just the start of a new era. I trust Peer and Brian will make sure the show runs smoothly in my absence.

Yeah, the last time NVC was this strong was back in the Matt and Bozon days.
This is how I feel as well.

Well actually, I don't remember if NVC was ever this strong or consistent with content and format (for weekly video podcasts, this may be the best era at IGN, for me) but it definitely feels like the strongest Nintendo presence IGN has had since the Casimassina and Bozon.

It's a shame to see Jose go because I suspect he has at least played a big role in building up NVC to be a big of a thing as it is: getting it's own Youtube channel, having lots of content, finding IGN editors and guests to be a part of the panel. NVC definitely grew into a bigger thing with Jose there. I wouldn't have known Peer was such a Nintendo fan if it wasn't for the current NVC fomat. Hopefully they find a good replacement. I'd like to see Sam be a regular with Peer and Brian as the main 3.

I'll definitely miss him. One of my favorites. I kinda wish IGN was more of a destination than a stepping stone for so many people, but I guess it is what it is.

Good for him.

Thanks for dropping by, Jose! I am excited for the future of NVC with Peer and Brian (and Sam hopefully :p)

Keep us posted on Metriod Prime 4.

I'm Joking. Good luck at Nintendo.

The cynic in me finds the amount of journalists who end up working at the companies they covered alarming, but I guess it makes sense given that most of these companies are in the same area and naturally they would make connections with each other.

Was he the one who gave Skyward Sword a 10/10 for ign? I like the guy but if he did that then I may like him a bit less :p

I believe he was with 1Up at that time and gave Skyward Sword a B+. I think he joined IGN soon after SS came out. I think the only 10/10 he gave was to BoTW and even then, he was apprehensive about it, considering the small technical issues.

Wouldn't it be more alarming if they formerly worked at the companies and THEN became journalists?

You nailed it in the second half. All about connections.

We'll miss you but know you have a lot to bring to the table at Nintendo. They're lucky to have you!

I prefer the podcasts without him really, he is too rigid.

I thought he was initially, but he loosened up more recently. He allowed tangents but still kept the show focused and moving along.

Those suggesting a desire to land at Nintendo may have tainted his writing at IGN were probably people who didn't follow his work. His reviews were fair and he'd even sometimes explain the the reasons he gave a specific score on the podcast.

Great news for Jose, even if I'm selfishly bummed about NVC.

To be fair, Jose and I drop F-bombs like crazy together when we're not on IGN mics. Jose is from the Bronx, after all :)

NVC is the only thing I pay attention to on IGN anymore. Love Jose and find that I have skipped episodes when I see that he isn't on them. Wish him well at Nintendo! As long as Peer is still on NVC I'll keep watching :)

I think this is the thing Jose did best out of pretty much anyone I see talk about Nintendo. I don't always agree with his opinions but he is thorough when presenting the facts and professional, and I find those aren't always qualities I find when people talk about Nintendo, whether they love them or hate them. I think some people tend to lose objectivity when talking about Nintendo's decisions.

I sometimes wonder if some journalists are easier on certain companies because they hope they'll get a job there one day.

This is certainly the conflict and honestly it's not the best look for IGN at this point. Either they've made a habit of hiring people who would rather work in games than in journalism or people who work there get put off the industry altogether.

Not a specific comment on Jose Otero, honestly I always found him very critical of Nintendo but even-handed. IGN has had a few other people who were fawning in praise until the objects of their adorations hired them and that doesn't serve the readership.
