EVO Sunday Schedule Revealed

Smash 4 is the lead in to SFV. Wow, that's pretty cool. Here's hoping the Smash tournaments are run better than last year.

Marvel sucks. Good that it's on in the morning. Tekken got a nice slot just before Smash 4 and SFV. Thank Christ that Melee is nowhere in sight. Finally.

Already knew Marvel was getting the 8am slot because that was the terms of the fundraiser.

Smash WiiU getting the Sunday slot over Melee though...

Well deserved.

Edit: Also seems like a good time for Nintendo to announce Smash Bros for Switch.

Blazblue is a weird pick for Sunday.

Edit: oh wow no I2 either. Not a good look for the first year.

Am I correct in assuming that BB is on Sunday because it has a newer update (in Japan) than Guilty Gear?

No, GG has a newer update than BB.

My guess for the BB sunday slot is that they have big announcements for the game just like GG had last year, since it has been a good while since the game received balance updates (since nov 2015) and they have datamined a few voice files from the console version that hints at playable Jubei (finally).

BlazBlue: CF is the sequel to a game that was considered to have one of, if not the best Grand Final sets in EVO history the last time it appeared. Giving it Sunday over Guilty Gear has been known since the announcement line-up and made sense at the time considering Rev 2 was little more than an expansion in comparison to CF being a fully fledged sequel - but the fact that BlazBlue's player base has dwindled so much while Guilty Gear has been holding up tremendously throughout the years is only evident in hindsight. I would not expect BlazBlue to return next year.

Yeah I just saw Mr. Wizard said they decided on BB before Rev 2 was announced.

I hope they fix the audio issues this year. Last year you couldn't hear the crowd half the day and felt zero hype. Then when they fixed it for SFV they played the announcer audio in the arena so it echoed on the stream.

Blazblue is their newer game and needs more help than GG. I figure DBFZ will be the same next year. At the same time the lack of GG and I2 when they're the 5th and 4th most entered game respectively is trash.

The EVO lineup was announced two weeks after Rev 2 was announced, and Mr. Wizard said that on the announcement stream that Rev 2 was what they were gonna roll with since ArcSys had been working closely with the EVO team. Going with BlazBlue on Sunday over Rev 2 was a conscious decision.
