4K update for Halo 5 with the release of Xbox One X & (some) Halo games going BC

TMCC will forever be a shitstain on this franchise until it's fully fixed/updated, and I can't say I disagree with the passion/rage behind it despite the product mostly working for me.

I agree. It was incredibly ambitious and they couldn't pull it off. I think between the MCC and the price tag of the Xbone, coupled with MS' antagonistic stance about digital downloads, that was the 2 piece and a biscuit that lost them this gen. MS and 343 couldn't fix their own mascot's game and their most high profile release. Hopefully they've learned.

They keep saying things like true 4k and it comes back to bite them...What is true 4k? I don't think this game will be native 4k or true 4k. They would be essentially taking a game that's around the 720p threshold or slightly higher at times with many cost saving issues, like lod problems, low rez textures, halfrate animations, low rez effects and shadows and bump that to 4k native with improvements to all the graphical problems mentioned...at a stable 60fps.? I don't see it happening....but November will be an interesting time..

At least it's announced and that's a good thing...I hope they also do something with the MCC, they now have a chance to fix things and stabilize framerate on the XBONEX. Halo5 and MCC done well with stable framerates would be a good thing at least.
They already have true 4K on Halo 5 forge, it's not outside the realm of possibility at all. I have a 980ti and I get a consistent 4K 60 FPS.

Probably Halo 3. Widely loved. Supported forever. Excellent campaign. Excellent multiplayer.

As evident by responses already. Opinions and how they work.

There is no Halo game that is a 10/10 for everyone. Different things matter to different people. There are folks who do not care for Campaign, same goes for MP.

Halo 5 MP was amazing. Campaign was meh, but since I play Halo for its MP, it still ranks higher than any other Halo.

I know how forge runs on PC, I've highlighted how it runs in prior posts as well, but we're talking the campaign here which pushes things a bit further relative to graphics and set pieces..

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu I am so happy right now! Love Halo 5, and have a 85" 4K TV. This is the best news of the year to me, Halo 5 MP is best Halo ever.

New users and returning users. It's also 4K for MP which still has healthy populations and will bump in November too. You can get a sense of the fidelity by looking at the PC Forge/MP package on a high end PC and without committing to anything I will note that BC legacy titles and the "fate" of MCC are not connected at the hip as some have perhaps reasonably, but in this specific case, mistakenly inferred. That may be cold comfort with no information to share at this time, but they are not an either or situation.

Excuse me while I read into this as much as possible.

New content update for Halo 5 confirmed.

Probably just means One X sales.

MCC mulitplayer isn't the unplayable trainwreck it was at launch, at least not for me, but it still has problems and it feels like 343 fixed some things and then went "good enough I guess" and shifted everything towards Halo 5. Personally, I can live with "good enough I guess" but it could have been more than that. It should have been more than that. 343 and MS are very well aware they fucked up here and have admitted as such so I won't dogpile on them too much, but I still have small sliver of hope they can fully patch it up one of these days.

As it stands, Halo 5 MP is pretty fantastic, and 343 has been doing a fine job of supporting the game these past 2 years, weak campaign aside. I'm excited for this update. Plus if you don't want to deal with MCC anymore, they are all BC now with all DLC free which is a pretty great option.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.

Thanks.

I haven't played the PC versions, so besides the resolution bump, are there any new effects?

Also, how about split screen MP? Is that getting a resolution bump too?

Gen X

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
I mean, are that many people going to revisit a 2 year old campaign for 4K resolution? Who is this for?

Maybe there'll be some newcomers to Xbox this gen with the release of the X and they'll try Halo 5. I know ow I would if I was getting an X since I'm not on board with Xbox this gen.

At 499 it's a bargain.

Personally I'm not to sure about the price. $499 isn't bad for the hardware itself, but you could kinda say the same about the PS3. Absolute value doesn't tend to be how the market views things.

In regards to the "year jump", I think Sony's done basically fuck all with it. I definitely don't feel like the PS4P has made a strong case for itself over the last year, to the point where the XB1X is notably disadvantaged by releasing this year... hell, it's seemingly looking like the XB1X will be key to decent developer focus being given to the Pro also. The last year has been far more WiiU headstart than X360 headstart imo.

At 499, no it really isn;t...Sony was smart getting the year jump, checkerboard is a fantastic approach.

It would of been smart if they promoted the PRO, but they have not done so and that year "jump" you call smart was pointless and did not do as much as it could have for them. I think the decision to not include UHD DIsk playback is what perhaps has them not touting the system...hard to market a device that potentially can do 4k, but not have one of the big aspects like 4k UHD playback.

At $499.99 it is a damn good deal for what the system has in it. Not sure where you think that what they put in the box is not worth that price.

Is reading dead on GAF? I never once said it wasn't worth it..Sony didn't need to promote the pro they sold what they made.... Promoting it would not change anything. Most sales are going to be the slims.

Edit: Out of this thread, people are so ready to jump on you and are defensive here , any kind of sensible conversation is futile.

Should he just listen to you because everyone hates the new halo?

I guess, at least I'd get Halo back on track in all the right ways <3

If you read what I said thought I asked him to have a sit down with walshy as 343 has worked and talked to him before. I know walshys views on the franchise and I know he keeps most of his negative thoughts to himself regarding the new stuff. Thus, why I suggested he tell him to be brutally honest. So, if you read what I said I didn't say just listen to me at all.

No matter what anyone says there are some truths here, 343 has lacked the skill and insight to make Halo what Bungie once had. All you had to do was look at their art, vehicle physics and you can instantly tell where things just felt off from Halo 4.

If they want to continue to chase what other games are doing and to make things as the see then of course that is fine, just means I'll still not enjoy one of the best franchises and favorite games I ever played.

I just don't get it, to put it very very simply.. why chase other games when you already have one of the best shooters ... not just shooters but one of the best games ever made. I just feel 343 has needed a big, big wake up call and I don't see why MS hasn't changed staff around honestly.

And yeah, if I was in his place my day one plan would be simple on the blackboard, make Halo Halo again. We do not look at other games to see where fps are going, we are looking back at what made Halo and what made people actually like and enjoy Halo. Will we change things up, will we expand on the idea sure... but we aren't adding im clamber and sprint and whatever else other games may have. Simple.

But, yes. It is just a game and it isn't going to hurt me if they keep messing it up as to what I like. I obviously get the aspects of opinons, we are all speaking through our own opinion so why bother bringing that up as some have.

Can someone give me the run down of the problems on MCC? I just got an Xbone and have been playing the MCC online with friends and by myself for a few weeks and am not seeing much issues here that I don't experience in other console multiplayer games. The main bug I see is that annoying "signed out" pop up you get when you go back to the game after powering off the console with MCC running. Annoying, but simple to work around.

I don't play it online, but when I set up a local multiplayer match, I have an issue where I can't change the maps for quite some time. It's really annoying and really distrusts game night.

Looking forward to Halo 6 to bring back split screen Halo that I love.

I wonder if it's possible we could see the retailer exclusives made publicly visible and free, Stinkles?

specifically:

the Reach Recon helmet variant that came with first run copies/preorders
the Gamestop armor piece for Reach

ODST's Johnson unlock for Firefight

Halo 4's various retailer preorder helmets/emblem/skins

Making all the DLC free is cool and appreciated, just asking while you've got a team deep inside the 360 digital caverns.

personally i'd be fine with the limited edition armor and legendary flames being made wide open in Reach, but i understand some others might not..

If you don't like Halo 5's campaign in sub-HD....making 4K will not change your feelings on it.

It's like remastering Transformers Revenge Of The Fallen in 4K. Yeah sure......it's nice for those fans i guess?

Forge on PC still performs terribly for me and my gtx1080 even @ my native 3440x1440.

I just tried it again because your post gave me hope that it had been fixed. On blank forge maps it seems fine. But on premade maps like overgrowth it was stutter city. I don't know what is causing it but it seemed to get better the more I jumped and played around the map but never smoothed out completely. I don't even want to think how bad it would be if I tried to get more people in a party...

See if I have framerate issues it was on forge maps, but that even seems better now. The developer made maps were always a rock solid 60 for me though. I had everything at max.

Talk to me when you fix the MCC 343. Really weird decision to make a big announcement for BC halo games when those are already remastered and supposed to run at better frame rates. Like why would you not focus on that rather than make the old games BC? Really hope that isn't placating people

BC is done by Microsoft engineers, not each game's developers. 343 didn't dedicate any resources to this.

Eh, like with... every game ever? People like games that others don't like.

By that logic, why remaster or upscale any game since it won't have some fans caring about it?

I'm guessing that the Scorpio will either come bundled with Halo 5 or with a free month of Xbox Game Pass, doubt there will be much new content coming.
