Torn between ARMs and Splatoon 2

before I get a bunch of whynotboth.gif responses let me just clarify that currently I have pretty limited time to devote to games and so I think it's reasonable to limit myself to just one of these multiplayer-centric titles.

I'm sure I'll end up owning both at some point after the honeymoon phase wears off for either but if you had to choose one over the other which would you pick and why?

I realize Splatoon 2 isn't out yet so it's kind of tough to say but I'm sure many of you have played the original and know what to expect. I never owned a Wii U so I would be going into Splatoon 2 completely blind.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Splatoon 2 will probably be more meaty both single player and multi player wise since it already has an established and devoted fanbase

I'd get Splatoon 2. I like Arms, but I'm not as into it as I was with the original Splatoon. It's a much lower barrier to entry.

As you haven't played Splatoon 1, if you think there is a chance you will like Splatoon (and remember there is a demo this weekend), get Splatoon 2.

Get Splatoon 2.
It'll have better single player content, a larger community, and will be supported longer.

No question.

You can wait on a couple updates to ARMS. It's all free content of course but it doesn't hurt anyone since the price won't drop probably.

Splatoon 2 expands and refines pretty much everything from the first game and it seems welcoming to first timers to I suggest that.

I love ARMS and would fully recommend it otherwise, but I'm also going to say Splatoon 2 for its content and enjoyment.

Splatoon 2 will have more meatier content at launch. ARMS is good but your currently not missing out on anything if you wait.

ARMS single player content is laughable, while Splatoon's Single Player mode seems meatier than the original.

Ultimately, it depends on what you want: a fighter or a shooter mostly multiplayer experience.

I'd go for Splatoon 2. Which is what I'm actually doing, I skipped on ARMS because the content wasn't really there for me.

Splatoon is a masterpiece in game design, visual style and play variety.

As someone who has never played Splatoon but owns ARMS, I wish I went with Splatoon 2 instead if I absolutely had to decide between the two.

Splatoon 2 has a campaign and what not, and seemingly gives you a lot more reason to stick around in regards to its multiplayer, so yea.

You don't have to be good at fighting games to be competent at ARMS, but i feel like you do have to have fighting-gamer type reflexes to get really great at ARMS. I'm starting to hit a bit of a wall just because i've never developed the skill for reading moves or necessarily the reflexes to get around stuff.

Splatoon, by contrast, is more cerebral: though reflexes are needed the higher up you go to make sure you don't get walloped in a close-quarters firefight, a lot of winning in Splatoon is about reading the state of the field, getting in the right place at the right time, or outfoxing your opponents by trying unexpected strategies.

Basically if you're good at fighting games then ARMS is worth a look if it's a this-or-that choice, but otherwise i'd go with Splatoon.

Splatoon 2 you can try out the demo to get a feel of it. Single player feels like a ¹3d Mario game.

Online is quick and easy to jump in and play. Even when you lose you'll be having a blast. Not in ranked mode though

I skipped ARMS

yeah I'd go with Splatoon 2 for sure

ARMS is really neat though but Splatoon is something else. peak Nintendo. the movement and ink mechanics are so good and so elegantly employed.

I like Arms but it IS really light on content. I bounced off it quick. It'll get better over time, so I'd say it's still worth seeking out, but maybe give it a few more months. Go with Splatoon 2.

I love ARMS, but it's tough to ge into and the content is limited. I never played Splatoon, but it already seems like a fuller game than ARMS.

I really enjoy ARMS but if I could only pick one I'd get Splatoon 2. Single player campaign, probably a larger community, etc

Splatoon 2 the community is amazing + campaign mode + charm + fantastic multiplayer.

Splatoon is something you need to experience if you have a Switch it's that good and special.

I have Arms and while it's pretty good and fantastic in it's own way, it does not come close a bit to Splatoon's greatness imo.

I would absolutely recommend ARMS if I could say the community was there. But that's still baby steps at this point considering ARMS is a new thing. Splatoon 2, on the other hand, comes with a built in community ready to go day one. Meaning that you'll get more long term play out of the latter.

So yeah, go for Splatoon 2. And when you've had your fill, check out ARMS.

Since you are getting them for their multiplayer content, it really is a matter of personal preference: do you like fighting games or third person shooter games more? Both are unique for their genre, and offer great gameplay, which is most important for your multiplayer title, so you should make your decision based on that preference I think.

I got ARMS and it was fun but not enough content to have staying power. In a year I hope that is rectified.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Splatoon 2 for sure.

There's gonna be a splatfest this weekend check it out.

Well if you do bad on ranked online, in splatoon you can blame your teammates so I would go with that.

But really splatoon 2 builds on top of the original game so it will have more content than arms. Id go with splatoon

Splatoon 2 for sure. So much more variety, stuff to do, and so addictive. After how awesome the first game was, and content-rich once its DLC was said and done, it's impossible for you to go wrong with the sequel. Guaranteed to have a kicking community, too.

I didn't go back to ARMS after the first few days because there was no real incentive to keep playing aside from getting more arms. No story content, no unlockable stages, characters, modes, no customization options, no in-game events like the Splatfests or Salmon Run... There's just not a lot to do in it at the moment. The game has a nice foundation but as a whole, it just isn't there yet unfortunately.

ARMS was fun for a few hours, but then I stopped playing and haven't bothered with it since. The game is fine, but there just isn't enough there atm. I'm definitely excited for Splatoon 2.

Splatoon 2 will likely be better game with more content and probably better future support.

ARMS always felt like a game that one might enjoy in the first few hours before completely dropping it.

ARMS has limited appeal when you're playing by yourself, while Splatoon has an actual story mode. That aside, if Splatoon 2 is anything like its predecessor, it'll easily end up being the better game between it and ARMS.

Edit: Even in multiplayer, I feel that Splatoon 2 offers a lot more variety than ARMS (in terms of game modes, play styles, and gameplay scenarios).

Get Splatoon now and decide on ARMS again in a year when a couple of updates are out. That's how I do it.

The global testpunch was fun but what's currently there doesn't really convince me to buy the game yet.

I love ARMS but Splatoon will have much more content out of the gate. I would get Splatoon now and wait for ARMS to have some more updates to add stuff to the game.

ARMS is great, but if you have to choose one, Splatoon 2 is definitely the way to go. It has a Mario Galaxy-esque single-player campaign in addition to the multiplayer and co-op offerings, not to mention the endless gear to collect and weapons to try out, the live Splatfest events, and of course all of the fun comments and doodles by the community that you can see in the hub, making the experience feel fresh and ever-changing.

As someone getting both, Splatoon 2 but get Arms further down the line when your done. Both games are top drawer.

Splatoon 2. As a sequel it's the meatier of the two games.

Also Singleplayer. ARMS weakness is that it didn't have one.

...hate me...
Toss a coin.

Personally I went with ARMS.

Reasons being because 1) it looked great and testpunches were fun 2) already got Splatoon on Wii U and didn't play it all that much.

Might still get Splatoon 2 at some point though.

I'd pick Splatoon 2 first mostly because there's less contents if you don't have online and it's free until 2018.
If you don't have online for ARMS, you're not missing as much.

It also seems ARMS is getting updates more slowly, especially if Splatoon 2 is updated in the same way the first was or close enough.

If you don't care about free online, just chose the one you want to play the most first I guess.
