My two cents:

I prefer a complete version with the latest patch applied, but an un-patched game that's still fully playable (like Dariusburst Vita) is better than no physical version at all.

The idea brought up by dallow_bg is great, just post the version that get's put on the cart/disc on the description page of a game. It would help to avoid some confusion; I bought Dariusburst Vita and assumed it was as ”complete" as the PS4 version since LRG made a big deal about it back then and never mentioned anything being different with the Vita version.

I personally don't think we need US re-releases of games that are already being sold as Asian versions with English as an option (Deemo, Ys, Wonderboy). But the sales of Deemo prove there's more than enough people who want the option, so keep doing your thing LRG and I might just not double-dip from time to time. That's cool.

Aokage ain't no fake-news Spicer. Please don't hide in the bushes and let Sarah Huckabee Sanders write your posts from now on ;)

Just to be clear: when I mentioned Sean Spicer it was in reference to "a spokesperson who tries to spin any news about their employer in a positive way, and who will vehemently defend them". Doesn't mean what he said is fake or lies. Also, it was more of a joke, because I hadn't expected Aokage to come this passionately to LRG's defense tbh. Since he had been somewhat critical about some of their stuff in the past as well.

If I had wanted to call what he said "fake news" or "alternative facts", I would've used Kellyanne Conway in stead.

It's supposedly a 500Mb patch for a game that fits on a 1Gb cartridge. Unless that patch isn't really a patch, but basically only contains DLC, you would think something isn't right with the original digital release.

I guess it's the alarming size of the patch that puts people off, but the base game is 721MB:
(Edit: Odd, my JP copy has 721MB of base data, go figure)

basegame1.png

The $75 worth of DLC are unlock keys, not actual game data:

The reason the game has such a massive patch is that even if you do not personally own a ship or stage from one of the classic shooter-themed packs, someone in multiplayer can choose them and the data must be present on your machine to play them. Consider it akin to a fighting game costume "compatibility pack".

Although the base game is fantastic -- what you're getting on that LRG cartridge -- in my opinion the DLC rollout started to go off the rails. For instance, there are stages that can only be unlocked in the PS4 version, yet the data for those must be on your Vita as well, in case someone chooses them in multiplayer. All told, I believe that 512MB was broken up into seven smaller chunks spanning January 2016-February 2017. A full year of updates.

To get "the full DBCS experience" one has to ante up over $200, and frankly, the base game was good enough for me.

As this DLC was released over course of months in Japan, the original game was probably built in such a way that creating a new build would have been... difficult, not to mention bumping the card size up to 2GB.

Also, I personally chuckled at the Spicy jibe, and it was obvious that it -was- a jest and nothing more (´∀`)

Ok, that makes sense. But so there were no tweaks to the core game in any patches that fix anything in the original build?

As this DLC was released over course of months in Japan, the original game was probably built in such a way that creating a new build would have been... difficult, not to mention bumping the card size up to 2GB.

I'm assuming it would also be a nightmare to get all those DLC packs licensed, since they're using IP from other rights holders too. Clearly we were never going to get those on cart. But it's not unreasonable to expect a build on cartridge that is "future proof" from a company that banks on "game preservation".

Also, I personally chuckled at the Spicy jibe, and it was obvious that it -was- a jest and nothing more (´∀`)

I still see it as a jest.

4 platforms down, 2 more to go.

But could be 3 more if Nintendo would stop being lame.

Night Trap developer. I don't quite get it. It's releasing on PS4 & XB1, right? It hasn't been announced for anything else?

Evidently the second tweet is about Switch, but I'm feeling hopeful that Vita is in the plans for this one based on this back-and-forth.

(Actually, Shizuka tweeted him asking about Vita and he liked that response, so seems likely!)

Still don't get what the other 4 (!) platforms are though. PC/MAC, Vita and ???.

Well if there wasn't a tease for Night Trap on Vita before, it is now lol:

Have you guys continued to convince developers to port their games to the Vita and covering the costs with a physical run?

LRG: Yes, one should be announced fairly soon!

I will lose many a Night sleep thinking about this... right? ;)

LRG: You might be on the right track there.

Yay. I know I probably shouldn't buy this one... but I'm going to ;)

Anyone had contact with LRG support recently?

I opened a ticket about some games lost in transit about 2 weeks ago, and have not had any reply or acknowledgement yet (ticket #5749 in case anyone from LRG sees this)

I opened one and it took them a week and a half to respond, I don't know if it's coincidence but they responded almost immediately after I tweeted them.

Sorry about that, one of our support members was out for health reasons. We just hired a third who was being trained last week. Everything should be answered faster going forward.

I never doubted this would happen after they tweeted a picture of the Vita devkit, but it's nice to see that they're actually putting in the effort.

I hope we all noticed the tease within a tease that followed. That's how savvy viral marketing works, you know.

But oh my gosh Night Trap on Vita is incredibly cool. I, like many, have an ironic love for that title, and to be able to show off its horrific fabulousness anywhere I go...! Bought, bought so hard.

Edit: The double irony of that footage looking more beautiful than it ever has before in history on a 1000 OLED screen...

I must've missed the tease within the tease. What was it, beyond Night Trap?

I'm paraphrasing a little, but

You:

Subsidizing physical Vita releases?

Josh:

We're close :)

Kresnik:

You guys rock. I will lose many a Night sleep thinking about this, won't I?

Josh:

You may be on the right track :)

Me butting in:

It's cool Kresnik thinks LRG rocks, but he must be sleeping Under one if he missed that hint.

Some back back and forth then finally me again:

Some say addiction to physical releases for one platform is a Trap, I say it’s the coole[st].

I know, I know, it's so dumb XD

Yay. Will order from them if they get it out before ASW.

Yeah, this a conundrum I've never had before! Identical content on cards, more or less the same price, highly unlikely to have differing cover art.

I suppose that since I don't need to play Ys Origin again any time soon, having Nightmared it on PC way back when I first moved to Japan, the lack of a ratings board icon covering a bit of the art would make me lean strongly towards LRG.

Ah, it was so smart to pull that on Arc with Wonder Boy, so that's that settled :) I hadn't heard! I wonder what it might come with. Probably the soundtrack, of which I already own every version that exists... but still. Principle. Cool packaging.

(And nothing against Arc, I love Arc to death*, but Asian releases were never intended to be boutique international sellers, they were meant to fulfill a need in parts of Asia without widespread, cheap access to broadband internet service. Play-Asia turned stuff like that into collector's items.)

*I especially love that they continued to support Vita for six years with tons of little ¥500-¥1500 DL only titles, about a fourth of which ever got released outside Japan. I was shocked Usagimaru got a release.

SS: The next 2 questions you may or may not be able to answer. . . I think it was June 1st you tweeted that you had just signed a ”dream game" that's been on your list since day 1.
DB: Hmmm
SS: Can you give us any hints or any information about that?
NW: Or is it one that you've just recently announced that you could talk about now?
DB: No, we still haven't announced it. All I can say is that it's a very large title that's sold over a million units on Steam. And it's one that has quite a legacy behind it. So, we're really excited.
SS: Coming to the PS4 and Vita?
DB: Yep. Both.

https://gamecuddle.com/interview-douglas-bogart-from-limited-run-games/

Did they announced that game already?

That one is a good guess after the hint last time.

What hint was that? I lost track.

Ys Origin will be sold on August 25th next to another unannounced JRPG.

https://twitter.com/LimitedRunJosh/status/887276295595446272

I'm booking off the 25th then. I wonder what other game it could be releasing with? Stranger of Sword City Revisited was mentioned as a possibility.

I'd like to think the mystery title is something they're localizing in-house, but it's to soon for something like that me thinks. Maybe the next to impossible happened and the other game turns out to be The Caligula Effect.
A man can dream.

Sounds like Rogue Legacy to me. 1.3m on Steam and the clue is in the response lol.

Caligula is one of those things where like, it would probably be my #2 pick behind Atelier (possibly Munch's Oddysee as well) but I've just given up because they've let it be known more than once that it's impossible.

I'd love to see Stranger of Sword City Revisited come out via LRG. Watch it instantly become more valuable than my Limited Edition of the first game with the art book and soundtrack and all that. LOL.

Personally, I am up to four games from LRG that I want this year:

Night Trap (will buy on PS4 then again on Vita whenever that happens)
Fallen Legion (planning Vita only but let's see what reviews say this week)
Ys (this is a maybe for me. I've never been super into the series and I got bored with Celcita so let's see how this one looks)
Stranger of Sword City Revisited (see above. Instant buy.)

*Edit*

If Rogue Legacy is the dream game, that's another instant buy for me.

Damn LRG is bleeding me dry and I'm not even one of those crazy people who tries to buy every LRG release.

I've never played Undertale so I'm not interested in a CE for something I'm not way into. $25 is pretty fair for a regular cart on Vita though. How can we see how many of those were made?

How are you guys getting these stock levels numbers? TELL ME!

If you look at the source code in the browser and search for "quantity", you'll see the remaining stock numbers. e.g. in Chrome: View -> Developer -> View Source -> enter "quantity"in search bar. The highlighted numbers after "inventory_quantity" are the remaining stock. Credit goes to dallow_bg for the tip.

But good news, there will be more runs! The free digital theme is limited to this first run though:

Hey guys. Sorry for any confusion - what I meant is, it’s not a “one and done” type affair. There is a first run, of course, and if you order early, you’ll get in on that (those are the #s you’re seeing on Fangamer.com), but there will be more runs in the future as demand necessitates. Fangamer will post about this later today, but first run peeps will get a voucher for the theme when the physical editions ship in September.
