PlayStation VR Thread 2: Reloaded

With the EU VR sale I'm considering getting some stuff I'm on the fence about.

Anyone got NBA2KVR? I was curious about this ever since it got move support...

Are you guys using your camera under the tv for superhot?

I'm using the camera on top of the TV, but when I play the game standing up that equals to appr. belly height. Tracking is OK for me.

Had some trouble when starting the game (after the first few tutorial levels) when the game placed me behind a wall and I could not continue
since the headset
was out of the play area. Had to restart the game.

Yeah it's all in there, before I turned it off last night I got to a level where a big metal girder on a crane swings at you, killing a guy in front, so you have to hit the deck, to duck under it, so awesome. :)

I can't count all the times I threw myself on the floor to get a gun or an object to throw at the enemies, and I had to turn back and shoot at the last second before getting killed.

It's amazing.

I have to move my camera around a little since there might be some reflection fucking it up. This game shows the poor tracking of the PSVR like not others. It's a must buy though.

Had the same problem, I guess.
After finishing the first "sequence", when you're back int he room with the computers, I was outside of it, and there was physically not enough space in the room to get there and take the floppy,

Thank you, I was able to find it through the "my orders" tab on the web store. The preorder "package" is apparently a different download than the "release package". Strange...

As there is a VR sale going on: Are Psychonauts and Egale Flight worth it? How long are they?

Eagle Flight is pretty good. Some disliked the "shade thing" that covers the outer edges of the screen, the developers promised to fix it but seems like they ended the support awhile ago. MP is completely dead. But SP alone is pretty meaty. It's an open world with a lot of collectibles and you fly around to enter missions. There's story, challenge, time trial, killing vultures and a variety of different missions. I love the game, but some levels are extremely challenging.

Yeah camera position is really important in Superhot, more so than most PSVR games I've played, get it wrong and it really shows the limitations of the PSVR tracking. You need a big enough space for the camera to see everything or it won't work very well when you are trying to grab things low down.

Yes! I was going to get this on PC awhile back, so glad they announced it for PSVR. Not a walking simulator btw its a myst like puzzle game.

Looks like I need to add this to my to buy list!

I'm waiting for a sale. Unless there is a damn good reason, $20-$30 is my ceiling for digital game purchases.

Yeah, I'm interested but it's just too expensive for now.

I played Archangel for about 2-3 hours last night and really enjoyed it. (Not finished it yet)

The price tag seems a little expensive for an on-rails shooter but it's actually fairly involved. There's little in the way of strategy, but juggling your shields, weapons and melee attacks keeps you busy. More so than Rush Of Blood for example. The motion controls work well, production values are good and the whole thing's been very well choreographed to deliver a cinematic VR experience.

As a concept it's leagues ahead of the light gun days of old that I was paying way more than this price for 20+ years ago.

I'm not saying it's for everyone. People expecting Titanfall VR will be disappointed. But I have no regrets about making the purchase.

Glad to hear it, definitely still interested in picking it up. Either on sale or the next time there's a bit of a breather for my wallet.

Wayward Sky is on sale in NA and I don't know why I slept on this game. It's like looking down into a little diarama while a little action figure runs around and solves puzzles. The graphics are simple and cartoon but look great. Recommend.

High five!
Yeah, the perspective was great, this game looked beautiful in VR.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Are you guys using your camera under the tv for superhot?

I would not suggest putting the camera on top of your TV for any game. That's just too high.

I have mine above for most angled down towards me and then level when playing standing games such as Farpoint/Batman etc

waQwWEB.jpg

As the camera is mounted on the TV and the shelf above comes out further I've added black velcro to the top of the camera and then some white velcro on the bottom of the shelf to allow me to bring forward and the viewing angles not to be obscured.

Cant say Iagree with that.

I have the camera on top of my TV permanently and rarely experience tracking issues. Just tilt it down slightly for seated games, tilt it up a bit for standing.

yeah, this works for me too. last night i finally figured it out, how much exactly i need to tilt the camera for different games (had trouble with Batman at first).

it should be a bit easier though.

ohh shit EU vr sale..? argh worst timing ever, i've already bought way too many games.. but i really want all of them, every vr game for me thank you. give me.

Having the camera on top of the TV or even higher is the way to go. Especially with the aim controller, because having the camera low means the controller will block the camera's view of your headset and mess with tracking.

That's what I was doing but it took me out of the game. Probably didn't help that I whilst I was doing this I was occasionally watching my left hand float across the room five metres away.

That sounds like you are out of camera view or did not restart your PS4. Unless you can set up your camera on a higher place pointing down covering larger area, you have to be seated down to avoid turning over. There's absolutely no way your hand will float across the room unless the light is blocked or not visible by the camera.

With the Summer sale starting now, can someone list what games I should buy? I have a wallet budget of £63.03 and don’t own any PSVR games as I was waiting for a didigtal sale like this.

I only have Move no aim controller and my girlfriend is also very keen on playing VR.

Getting shot in Superhot VR is probably one of the most startling and visceral experiences I've yet had in VR.

It's as though I can actually feel it. I grunt in pain I don't actually feel, but expect.

  • Until Dawn: Rush of blood is simply amazing with the move controllers. It's also a great game to play with your SO - £6.49
  • Batman: Arkham VR is one of the best uses of VR to date. It's a little short (2 hours if you take your time) but so, so worth it. Also uses the move controllers really well. - £11.99
  • Thumper is meant to be incredible. I'm picking it up myself in the sale. - £7.89
  • Tumble VR: For £4 you can't go wrong. A neat little block stacking game (also PS Move). - £3.99
  • Wayward Sky: A great take on the point click adventure game. Plays like a little diorama with characters running around (uses PS Move) - £7.99
  • Mervil's: a VR adventure: 3D platformer in VR. Looks like crap; plays amazingly well. - £6.49
  • Static: a great puzzle game which utilises the DS4 really well. One of the PSVRs sleeper hits. Imagine your hands stuck in an elaborate puzzle box and having to work out how to solve it. Another game that;s great played with others. - £9.99

    Total £54.83

Leaves you around £8 to play around with.

Maybe grab Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes to play with your GF. It's a riot of a party game.

edit: make sure you grab the free VR stuff. The Playroom VR is great.

Fantastic. I'm playing it tonight with my wife. Really looking forward to it.

Great choices, with that £8 I would say a possible (assuming OP meets criteria) would be the DRIVECLUB VR update, if you already have DC + Season Pass you can get the VR update for £7.99. A lot of people ragged on it being a downgrade in graphics which it was already going to be, but I honestly love it as a racer.

Thanks man.

I may just grab that myself as I enjoyed the Drive club VR demo.

I don't own the season pass but it's only £6.49 right now, so with that and the £7.99 VR upgrade it'll be £14.48. A "massive saving" of £1.50 on the standalone VR (which is £15.99) but at least I'll get the season pass stuff.

Ah that won't work criteria for the upgrade was having it before a certain date (hope I got this to you in time.)

Anyone who bought the DRIVECLUB™ Season Pass on PS4™ before 00:00 AM BST on Thursday 29th September 2016 can upgrade to DRIVECLUB™ VR from PlayStation®Store at a reduced price.

Ah yes of course. Thanks for the reminder. I forgot about that stipulation with the season pass. I've nearly bought it a few times for the VR upgrade before reading the small print.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On another subject I'm looking to pick up another game to use with my Aim controller tonight. It's a toss up between Dick Wilde and Brookhaven. Both are on sale for around the same price. Any advice on which I should get VR Gaf?

It's made me jump a few times, as I've turned around a few times just in time to get a bullet in the face lol. It's a weird feeling getting shot in VR, as we know it's not real yet our brain still reacts like it is.

If you mean selling PSVR getting Oculus, probably not the best idea since you just got it. If you have the extra money to spend, absolutely. Oculus has a lot of cool exclusive games. They do have a lot of crossover stuff. Timed exclusives here and there too with many of them undisclosed whether it is real exclusive.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't plan on selling the PSVR and when I look at the big picture, it seems like the VR platform that's most likely to succeed thanks to the large userbase.

What are the must haves on this sale? There are so many things that are tempting, but what is actually a "must get" now? I have no real limit in terms of money for these sale games, because all are at a good price I think.

I have both.

Yes, there's quite a lot of overlap, and many of the games that have been discussed recently in this thread have been making their way over form the PCVR side.

Whilst I would definitely recommend a Rift even if you have PSVR, I'm not sure if I'd recommend both within a few weeks of each other. I would suggest sticking with the PSVR for now, and if you're looking to get a Rift later, then possibly just reserve some of the titles that would function notably better on the Rift (a lot of the pseudo roomscale types) for when you get one. If you decide later that the PSVR is all the VR you're ready to commit to for now, then you can just pick those games up on PSVR after.

Thanks. I guess the timing of everything (the oculus price drop) has me curious about the oculus. Also, they stated that the price will go up after 6 weeks which is why I was wondering if I should jump now. Either way, I think I see now that the PSVR has more than enough software to hold me over until the end of the year sales. If Microsoft announces support for Oculus once the price goes back up, I'm probably going to regret not getting it.

Played Dick Wilde last night with Aim Controller, it was pretty good fun :) it's a shooting gallery type game, one thing I didn't like was things like splash damage obscure your view too much and for too long, meaning that sometimes you can't see enough to try and recover and eventually will be dead due to not hitting more oncoming enemies.

I've just purchased Brookhaven so cannot comment on that one yet. Looking forward to it though.

I’m definitely getting this, I own the season pass and bikes expansion and got a platinum in both (if I remember correctly).

Credits to PSVR Frank, but you don't have to suffer through his video because I'll summarize for you.
His subscriber that works in GameStop sent him this image. He claims that he got this advertisement brochure.

My take: Now whoever is trolling the PSVR community, why though. We are such a small community.
I mean stuff like these happens all the time with PS4 or Switch because they're huge, but PSVR... who would waste their time trolling us.

OMG that VR games sale :O
Right on time for me. Perfect.

Buying everything on my list, even Sportsbar because at 8€ I don't really care anymore haha

I'm intrigued by Robinson. 50% off...
I've read the game itself is pretty bad, and the climbing makes you literally sick.
But I just read the game does not support Move?! I mean come on, the character has a fucking Move controller in his hand....
Was Move support ever patched in? Worth the 25€ to look at Dinosaurs? Are the graphics really better than most PSVR games (and does it still have a good IQ though).

Do you expect this to be fake because of fallout 4 vr and because it needs to reach stable 60 fps for VR?
A much lower level of detail (less flora and fauna) and a reduced draw distance could free up precious CPU resources while a lower resolution, reduced shadow quality and turned of good rays could free up enough GPU resources to push the game to the nessacary 60fps. It could be possible but I expect a drivevlub VR like image quality tbh. Still i'm way more interested in fallout 4 vr than Skyrim tbh.

I'm just really put off by the £50 rrp on Skyrim :( wish there was an upgrade option like with others.

Skyrim was 30fps on PS4 too, but of course the VR version falls somewhere between old Skyrim and remastered. It's definitely achievable, but it will be ugly on standard PS4. Fallout 4 is not the best looking game to begin with, they will most likely tone down the resolution to sub-HD. On the Pro however, I'm sure they will fully utilize it. Looks like the PS4 Pro is becoming more necessary for bigger VR games.

Why would a random GameStop employee know something that noone else does?

Not necessary knowing something that no one else does. I would say maybe they just got this advertisement. And seeing how nobody cares about PSVR stuff, most people will not even bother leaking it. Then again, faking these stuff is EXTREMELY easy, I just don't see the point of doing it to the PSVR community.

The same reason an Amazon or best buy employee could know something in advance before most of us: Promotional material. It is a possibility. We'll know soon enough.

Looks like the PS4 Pro is becoming more necessary for bigger VR games.

FO4 received a nice pro patch a while ago. They were able to increase resolution to 1440p, render shadows and god rays at a higher quality and increase the draw distance. It definetly looks better (even good if you don't look at NPCs), still not PC quality though.
And yes I agree, ps4 pro is very useful for VR.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...

I move about way too much for Superhot. might have to get a mat for the floor so I can feel the play space with my feet. That is the only problem I have had with the game so far, I will start in one area of the room and end up in another and be out of the play area.

Bought:

- Until Dawn: Rush of Blood
- Statik
- Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin
- Rez Infinite
- Tumble VR
- Surgeon Simulator: Experience Reality
- Sports Bar VR
- Batman Arkham VR
- Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
- Job Simulator

Averages out to less than 12€ per game, could not resist to empty my PSN wallet.

Plus the Superhot VR preorder.

Still have to finish RE7 and try several of the demos/experiences. Tried most of the content of VR Worlds and Playroom VR.

I think I'm good for a while lol

First JB HiFi Aus, then Amazon Italy and now GameStop. Although I'm 60% sure the GameStop Ad is fake, still, if it's a mistake, seems like a pretty weird mistake by all major retailer across the world...?

Recommend me something in the sale that doesn't require Move to work well, isn't Thumper/Rez and doesn't have too much spoop.

Statik.

I've been having the same issue. I think it happens as you lean around bullets and try to return to an upright position, where you're not moving back all the way but your foot moves to make up about half the distance. Over time, it builds up and I find myself hitting the desk or the curtains.

Having a frustrating experience with the tracking when objects are on the floor. Reaching down in my setup can make my in-game hands float away.

The final issue I have is that, since you can't move from the spot, guns that enemies are holding can fly out of range. Some levels require items that can fly off due to a mixture of bad luck or your inability to grab it from the air in time.

Having to complete enough puzzles until you hit a checkpoint can be irritating too, when you keep failing to the last one. I got annoyed enough that I ragequit and loaded up Tumble VR since I got it in today's sale...

...and the game is just delightful, relaxing, and satisfying! Definitely recommended at the current price if you enjoy puzzle games. The Move controller is used to greater success than VR, but depth perception is exceedingly helpful.

Solid list there.

I've played seven of them and they're excellent (Until Dawn, Statik, Rez, Tumble, Batman, Keep talking and Job Simulator). Not a bad game amongst those TBH.

I've also got Superhot to start tonight. Really can't wait.
