Media Create Sales: Week 30, 2017 (Jul 24 - Jul 30)

I asked something similar, but it seems we just have to wait and see. They could've bumped production, but watching these next couple of weeks should give an indicator

Nintendo apologized for Switch shortages in Japan, saying it will ship more units in July and August for the Splatoon 2 launch. Nintendo also said it’s ramping up Switch production for later this year.

142k consoles sold, that's incredible for a system 6 years in its lifespan. Not only I was expecting half that number, but I also thought PS4 would overtake it. It's really a system in a different universe.
Second best selling console of all time.

Of course it really doesn't hurt a console's sales when it has very poor competition and as a result is able to last a long time in the market.

Curious what the shipment sizes were like for the two DQs; I'm curious if SE anticipated significantly more demand than the other. In the end they're not too far apart from one another.

Great numbers all around. Time for some to eat crow regarding PS4 version sales of dq ;)

http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1358142&page=11

Console jrpgs are life.

Zelda and Arms are still not bumping with the hardware. Both should see some increase during Obon though. Mario Kart should benefit the most though.

Yeah I kept wondering if that would happen with Arms (and already released and upcoming third party games) once the Splatoon shipment bump happened. People here were acting as if it was more than guaranteed and didn't even like entertaining the question. Arms looks pretty much done.

If Media Create GAF could handle the infamous Squid Legs image for over a month after Splatoon came out then a few ARMS/LEGS joke posts are child's play in comparison lol

If we are dealing with an entertaining meme picture I can handle it, but that sentence repeated makes me do the Arthur fist clench like a mofo.

I think SE needs to rethink not releasing DQ on the Switch, low Install Base or not it does not seem to stop popular games from selling well on the platform

...what?

Guys these threads have prediction stuff every month. We are talking about people being wrong about them. I don't understand how it is a derail. It is just funny how some were jumping at the dude for predicting 1 million for PS4 version.

How much attention are you seeking? We get it you won. Your favorite company you root for did good.

He predicted 1 million OW on PS4, which didn't happen. It's not really a great post to go back and point at to say how wrong GAF is all the time.

Yeah. I am sure that if he had predicted 950k for OW reactions in that thread would have been way different! He was still way closer to real figures than most here and got laughed for it back then.

You mean 10th best? DS =/= 3DS

EDIT: Oops, totally forgot we were talking Japan only in this case guys. My bad.

That said, isn't it still ~4th (probably 3rd, will have overtaken PS2 by now)?

I wonder if MHW will do as good.

With heavy marketing I do believe it can, but one thing people should note is that the PS4 install base has been "groomed" to this point with Dragon Quest Heroes, Dragon Quest Heroes 2 and Dragon Quest Builders. Monster Hunter hasn't had that kind of treatment on the platform, so it's not like the MH fan base could get used to the idea of the next flagship title on the console.

I think it has the potential though. Maybe DQXI can even help it out, by giving MH fans (who may also be DQ fans) an added incentive/excuse to purchase a PS4.

Its also never opened higher than 580K on a home console.

Next week will be interesting with PS4. It didn't move a particularly impressive number of consoles this week, so the drop next week, and the new baseline it will have to carry until 2018 are going to be decisive.

I can have a laugh at it but literally the discussion has barely started and already the shit stirring has begun. Like bruh can you even wait a little bit or are you that excited to point fingers?

This is by no means gospel, however on Amazon the PS4 version is out of stock until Saturday and still selling with it's early buyers discount, and the 3DS is still in stock however Amazon has removed the discount.

Make of that whatever you will.

I think it'll definitely open higher than that in its OW. By how much is probably the real question here.

Marketing has to be on point and Capcom needs to ensure content is there on day one for it to have any shot at 1 million.

He predicted 1 million OW on PS4, which didn't happen. It's not really a great post to go back and point at to say how wrong GAF is all the time.

Doesn't change the fact that people shot down his prediction like it was absolutely impossible for the sale to get anywhere near 1M. Also it really depends on his definition of "OW". If he meant "opening week" then it counts the entire week, which makes his prediction spot on. If he meant "opening weekend", which is the term the movie industry used for box office, then he missed the mark but still very damn close to his prediction.

I must say I'm a bit surprised the PS4 didn't sell more than on FFXV's release week.

I'm very surprised about that as well. I expected a lot more newcomers. 90k still is something of course and there already are a couple of DQ spin-offs on PS4, but since those are also on PS3/PSV, I thought the number would be higher (my predictions were 120k).

I'm left wondering if an on time DQXI Switch release would have cannibalized the combined sales on 3DS and PS4 or been additive.

Nintendo mentioned shortly after launch that they would be increasing Switch production.

Perhaps we are starting to see the result of that increasing production.

Next few weeks should be telling whether or not they truly have and are finally going to be able to deliver larger shipments to both Japan and NA.

I more view this as the last hurrah. Well, Pokémon USM left, and it will do well since Pokémon, but after that I doubt 3DS has many more surprises in store.

3DS reminds me kind of PSPs late gen sales curve. I admit though that I didn't expect it to hold this year so well as it has done so I will eat crow for that. I guess Switch not having BC, shortages for Switch and big price difference to 3DS make it still tempting to pick up (and very big library of quality games of course). .

Like I said already, it's not that surprising. Take these into account:

- FFXV was exclusive. If you wanted to play FFXV, you had to buy a PS4
- DQ fans already had a few DQ games to jump into the console with to prepare for DQXI. Like the DQ Heroes Metal Slime bundle which did pretty well.
