Middle-Earth: Shadow of War will have premium currency/loot boxes

- Paid Cheat Codes.
- Undermining what's supposed to be a crafted game progression balance.
- Pay to play less of the game you paid $60 to play.

And the usual 'you can get everything w\o paying' comment that fails to understand that the game can still be manipulated and game design decisions made to urge and push players to spend real money.

This is the most hilarious one. Like... rule #1 of game design is to make your game fun to play at all times( satisfying gameplay loop, pacing etc ). If your game offers "timesaver" packs then you fucked up sooooo hard as an entertainment provider. Counterargument that this is offered for players with less free time to play games is also broken at it's core.
If this is not a red flag the size of Everest i don't know what is.

Oh fuck off with the accelerated SP bullshit already. All items are available through normal gameplay given "enough time" is spent? Sounds like you'll need to grind to get all the SP stuff. Sigh. I don't believe for a moment that the game was fully designed before the paid content idea; inevitably the latter will affect the former.

I hate having two separate in-game currencies just to accommodate this rubbish, the whole concept is needless and immersion breaking. The game will sell millions anyway, judging by the first one.

I would love to see the stats for how well this sort of paid content does in SP games. My impression was that it didn't do that well in SP Assassin's Creed or Deus Ex, but I don't have receipts for that.

Well, they've lost my sale. But I guess they don't mind as I'm sure the revenue from this scheme will offset my lost sale.

I was going to buy this if it got good reviews, but my interest dropped down to the bottom of the mariana trench.

I never cared about xp boosts, but come on, locking gear and orcs behind gambling boxes? I just know they'll require you to spend real dosh to get the good/rare stuff, even if they claim in-game milestones give you a bit of currency as well.

Deus Ex does a good job of hiding its paid content. It never asked me to pay for anything and the only place you can find the microtransactions is in the STORE section of the main menu, which at first glance looks like the place you get the content DLC from.

I wouldn't even know it had microtransactions if people didn't make a big deal about it (and if the season pass wasn't a joke that costs more than the DLC separate)

I'm so tired of loot boxes of any kind. At least back in the day you paid to actually get stuff, but now you pay for the chance to get stuff.

If a game has loot boxes you earn in game or buy it's an instant negative going in.

I was on the fence with this game up until now.

I'm now officially in the "not buying" camp. Microtransactions poison games.

Wow, publishers are greedy! That's unheard of.
Almost every sports game has got microtransactions for Career mode, how's this any different? Nothing's gated, you just have you invest more time grinding. Maybe it's just me, I simply won't buy any.

For me loot boxes are, normally, a deal breaker. I don't mind cosmetics only boxes like overwatch but when it "affects" the progression then i just skip the game. I just don't have the patience to do the same thing over and over again to unlock a buff necessary to progress on the game.

I believe you, but i think the amount of people that were actually going to buy the game, but backed off because of this, can be counted on two hands (hyperbole) and WB probably factors that in.

Obligatory.

I didn't play for dead space 3 because of this. I'm not going to play this game now either. I have better games that dont treat me like idiot to play instead.

Yeah, just cancelled my pre-order. I'm sure I'll still check it out down the line when I can get it for around 30 bucks, but the Fall's packed with great games as it is, and this news made it easier to decide which game to wait on.

I think eventually some of you guys will come to the realization that some people actually want, like and request this feature (not me, i bought loot crates once and completely got that out of my system, I'm good, its not for me).

Typically cheat codes kill in game progress or achievements. Hacking/modifying things can make your account disappear. People want a legitimate avenue to speed up progress without sinking 100's of hours into a game as not everyone has that kind of time to devote to a game.

If you think about it, you could be walking around with all of the same gear, or better, than someone else sitting there with their wallet $50 lighter, simply because you're more observant, up for a bigger challenge or knowing where to invest your time for maximum output or whatever. Once you realize that it kind of takes they clamouring to spend away. It's for people with more money than time to invest who are looking for for ways to maximise their time and enjoyment.

Also you guys know damn well unlocking everything from to go is a fast way to kill any sense enjoyment and wanting to explore a deep and massive game. If someone wants to pay extra to do that, its hard to hold them being weird as fuck against them.

Just my opinion for whatever it's worth. I don't buy them as a general point, but i know why some people do. My only issue is when ingame currency progress feels particularly neutered, in those cases, fuck that.

Good effort, but I refuse to believe this does not alter the game design in a negative way.

Then maybe games shouldn't be designed to have 100's of hours of bullshit to justify a $60 price, only to then require additional payment to remove the 80 hours of crap to take it back down to a fun, reasonable game length? If the actual game is fun enough, you can replay it. There, lots of extra game time without spending a single dollar on development.

See, there are games where this doesn't. Res Rev 2 had currency for revives in the Raid mode but you get the crystals so often that it you never have to spend real money for more. I used to be against this but I'm willing to wait and see.

This game looks like garbage and sounds like garbage.

I'll buy the GOTY edition on PS5 for 10 dollars thank you very much.

A lot of games have this type of currency but I didn't ever feel the need to buy anything.

Someone mentioned Dead Space 3 and how he skipped the game because of that. Meanwhile I finished it two times in coop and had a great time. Microtransactions? Who cares. They included them not for me.

Also what's exactly wrong with WB games? You guys mean Injustice 2? Where you can get every piece of epic gear by simply playing Multiverse?

Some people want massive games they can sink 100s of hours into and still find a sense of accomplishment all the way through. Are you suggesting they cut out a ton of content and strip it to the basics where everything you can and will see is done in 6-8 hours? We have plenty off those games.

Don't get me wrong, my perfect gameplay design wish is for Morrowind-esque design:

-every item of every power level is immediately available for you to buy, steal, unlock via quest, acquire via noteriety, or murder for as soon as you step off the boat if you're up for it. That to me is perfection.

But i also take into consideration that it's not accessible to tons of people. In an ideal world i wish everyone said "fuck this" and designed that way. At the end of the day, this is accessibility for sale disguised as a pay game within a game. You can only hope developers aren't shitty enough to fuck up the au naturale experience in favor of pushing gamers to feel that they "need" a boost.

I love Shadow of Mordor, so it's a shame that I probably won't be picking this up now.

SoM is like my fav of all Arkham combat games out there easy and I even have it twice in PS4 the regular and the goty versions, but now for this I will wait till it gets $10 a year from now, that way maybe I wont feel that bad in buying a skin for Shelob.

:(

Guyz it's just optional! You don't HAVE to spend the money! More options are always good.

You're a fucking fool if you pay for this lol.
