Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice |OT| The Mid-Tier, in Limbo

Spoilers please don't read if you don't have too..
the environment changes when you look through the portals. It should lead you where you need to be

What do you mean by
portals? I'm standing surrounded by runes and can't figure the first one in Surt's zone with three runes one out.

I've pretty much followed this game development since day 1 so think I'll pick this up to support NT's approach.
Just a little worried about game length but still looks worth it with the visuals, new audio technique and themes tackled.

Hopefully I can get into it this week

Oh and that's a really well done OT!

Holy shit you really must play this with headphones

I’m about an hour in and yeah, you REALLY need to play this with headphones. I have a nice surround system, but the voices in your head effect works so much better with headphones.

Also, hi-res mode is where its at. I tried 60hz mode on the Pro and its a noticeable hit to the resolution. Not worth the downgrade IMO to get to 60hz.

I really like the combat in this game. The
Valravn
fight really gave me a Bloodborne feel as well as the combat.
I was streaming it and that is what everyone kept saying, feeling so very much like Bloodborne and Dark Souls. Really a good a game, though that fight was soo frustrating as are the puzzles at times.

Really looking forward to this. The design is just spectacular in every way! So grotesque and unique, and it's not very often we get a Viking Saga- in a video game. I'm on board!

there are these lil gates that have glowing bones on them.. walk around them while looking through it, the scenery changes. Once you see an opening walk through it.

I gave the game a 6.5 (out of 10) on Everyeye.it

The performance capture truly adds a special touch to the already intense cutscenes, the audio department is stunning and visually it's kind of a treat: too bad that the gameplay elements in Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice are just so shallow, bland and uninteresting, dragging down an otherwise deeply fascinating project.

Honestly, as a fan of Ninja Theory (who particularly LOVED DmC) I was quite disappointed by Hellblade. As I wrote in my quote, some of the elements are definitely there and are also very high quality - above all the audio design is simply stellar, with David García proving to be one hell of a sound designer after his already amazing work on RiME, but the performance by Melina Juergens in the role of Senua is basically at the same impressive level of the audio department - but unfortunately the gameplay is just pretty mediocre and absolutely not on par with the rest: it's by far the worst aspect of the project, and considering we're talking about a video GAME I think it's a significant problem.
More so if you consider that this is a traditional "gamey" game, not something along the lines of a walking simulator (despite sharing quite a few things with those).
Simply put, the puzzles - or I should say the puzzle, considering it's basically just one kind of puzzle repeated all over the adventure, with some minor twists to the formula here and there - are simplistic, uninspired, repetitive and never particularly rewarding, and the very same adjectives could be used to describe the shallow combat system (which is however NOT the focus of the game, with combat being probably around the 30% of the experience). And the slow rhythm unfortunately doesn't make things better in that sense.

Honestly I know that time and money were probably big constrains for a project like this, one that proudly sits between AAA and indie, but I can't help but feel that all the gameplay elements could and should have been better for Hellblade to truly shine. And it's truly a pity because the studio is clearly full of talent and the project is nevertheless a fascinating one.

GameSpot 8/10

Hellblade's most notable achievement is the handling of an incredibly sensitive subject matter within an engaging and well-crafted action/adventure game. At its heart, the story is about Senua's struggle to come to terms with her illness. In the process, she learns to find the strength within herself to endure, and to make peace with her past. And in a profound and physical way, we go through those same struggles with her, and come away with a better understanding of a piece of something that many people in the world struggle with.

Seems like a game that's more focused on presentation than compelling gameplay. This thing's going to have to get incredible GAF impressions at this point for me to consider checking it out. I really enjoyed DmC, so that's kind of a shame, but oh well. Not every game is meant for every player.

Is this 60fps on the regular PS4? I've honestly slept on this game but I just watched a gameplay video on youtube and it looks pretty interesting. And the game is $30? I'm seriously thinking about picking this up.

60 fps mode seems to be for ps4 pro users. On the base ps4 it's targeting 30 fps/

People who are bashing Jim's 1 out of 10 score should maybe read or watch his review first....he actually loves the game but ran into a game breaking bug at the end, one that made the game unplayable for him, and being that there is one save file his only option would have been to replay 8-10 hours of the game (and hope he didn't run into the same bug again).

I was always taught that a 1/10 is a broken piece of shit, not a score to give because you personally didn't gel with something. I like Jim for a lot of what he does but he's often just completely off base on his reviews.

He literally calls the game "a broken, unplayable piece of crap" in the review. He ran into a late-game bug that ruined his experience.

Pay that fool no mind. He scores for the clicks and controversy.

Haha, is Jim Sterling low on clicks lately?

Y'all realize he doesn't generate revenue through ads, therefore clicks don't matter to him, right?

Jimquisition 1/10 wtf?

Is that a typo? Fucking lol...edgy

This is going to sound silly, but maybe listen to the review to get context for the score he gave it. Sometimes review scores have words or audio attached that explain why a critic gave a game a certain score. Those attachments are actually called reviews.

I won't be watching the video to avoid spoilers as I'm playing it myself. Was it the PC or PS4 version?
