LawBreakers' launch numbers are much lower than Battleborn's - PCGamesN

As someone that liked Battleborn, I find it amusing that you hated Battleborn and now the game you like is being dragged down next to Battleborn.

Welcome to the 1%. lol

I've literally never played Lawbreakers. My post never said I did. Sorry to disappoint you team. The response from the outside, as someone that has not taken it upon myself to give enough of a shit, is "That looks fine but meh" and the response on the internet seems to agree that it's not a bad game.

Can't say the same for Battleborn, which MIGHT have been a good game, lots of aspects of it were close, but it was something that got a lot more exposure, had a lot more of us ACTUALLY PLAY the game, and step away from actively. Because it wasn't good.

There's a difference between low numbers because people aren't trying the product (Lawbreakers, and low numbers because people try it and actively pivot away from it (Battleborn).

Am I the only person who actually like Lawbreakers character design? I mean, Cronos looks like a member of Slipknot and is constantly put forward by marketing despite being one of the worst designs in the game, besides Helix. Other than that though I think the character design is great and also diverse.

Of the 16 human characters(plus 2 robots) 7 are women.
None of them are in sexy outfits and they all have distinct personalities. You won't find any cleavage in any of the alt costumes either. I guess you could argue Hellion's outfit is tight but she's a ninja it fits her design.

Of the 16 characters 7 are white.
Nothing wrong with white characters but it's nice that there is a good amount of diversity.

Other than being diverse I just think the designs look good and modeled in high fidelity. Some of the faces have some uncanny valley happening but overall they look like real people.

the price they decide to launch at doesnt mean anything besides the price they decide to launch at
they are fair to compare

it's not an indie game. i'd call it an 'AA' or mid tier game, but certainly not indie.
and afaik lawbreakers wasn't exactly a cheap game

Yeah, it might be "indie" by the strictest definition, but Lawbreakers had a really big marketing push behind it.

generic copycat FPS games designed as a service failures seem just par the course.

Bosskey has like less than 60 employees. it's an indie game.

EDIT: double checked and they've got 58 listed on their website.

I don't think there's an arbitrary number that says 'now this is indie if this is under x employees'

And if you want indie, that's usually teams of a small amount of people, like 5-15.

Lawbreakers is not an indie game. It's funded by Nexon. That's fucking huuge.

I'm hoping it has great word of mouth and legs. The fact that it's $30 should put it on more radars. It's really fun too.

If Overwatch wasn't in an event with skins I want, I'd be still playing it.

Maybe that's part of the issue in its release timeframe.

That white lady's face is kinda off to me (uncanny valley as you said perhaps, idk it's discomforting to look at), but I actually quite like those designs otherwise. the kind of singular color scheme per character has that 90s comic book or superhero appeal, but the armor and designs themselves are pretty modern.

Who even remembers Quantum Break at this point?

I mean...is this a comeback? What exactly are you saying?

It's a game from a little over a year ago with the same design setup for the logo with "break" in the second half of the name. What are you so defensive about?

They should have gone the initial f2p route and shouldn't have put all that money on a game that looks bland and uninspired in its art.

What's it a copycat of? How's it generic?

its a copycat of every other modern multiplayer only arena FPS with microtransactions obviously. TF2, titanfall, overwatch, BB, ect...in addition to its Quake/Unreal tournament type origins

My main point is with so many of these coming out, some of them are bound to fall through the cracks if they are not inspired enough or dont have a big overhype budget or epic CG trailers

I think it will grow also. Sure its not ever gonna do huge numbers. But with good support and maybe some sales it can do "good" at the end.

Is it class based or hero based?

Im assuming Class based since those design are hella muddy.

I played the betas on PC and enjoyed the game overall. I find the core gameplay to be fun, and unique enough, but all the other aspects need polish/refinement. The menu UI seems to be the worst aspect, as the backgrounds graphics are hideous IMO (fuck off with all the dark blue).

I don't find this game to be very similar to OW or TF2, but I can appreciate that perception from those who haven't played it, and their marketing team did nothing to change this. Based on what I've seen, it appears they are trying to imply this is a skillful game (not sure if that's a shot at other titles).

Was too early to tell, but during the betas it seemed like the Wraith class was both more powerful and popular than the others. I only liked playing the Wraith, and 2 of the other classes were just ok.

I'm really on the fence whether to buy it. I like CliffyB's games but I'm very conflicted with Nexon publishing. This feels like a shooter that I could play for 30-60 mins at a time, but that's true of several other competent FPS games.

Edit:

Feels like the wrong game at the wrong time. Last year was packed with great shooters that are still enjoying support and active communities. LB is also only on 2 platforms, and PUBG coming out of nowhere this year and becoming a breakout success probably doesn't help either.

That being said, I played a bit of the beta and thought it was fine, but nothing that would keep my attention for long.

You dont see unreal tournament in this game? Maybe im just old enough to remember. I too thought it looked generic which is why i never bothered with the betas. And no xbox version.
That's exactly what it was trying to be though. How many other modern Unreal Tournament games are there exactly?

I don't see how cosmetic loot crates define gameplay, but okay.

I love this game - really fun shooter. Also, I am curious why people are rooting for games to fail. That's not good for the industry.

It doesnt matter. The last one failed sales wise which is why they put it on hiatus. And ironically was also a playstation exclusive on the console side.

It's an arena shooter that cost $30. You can get quake champions for free right now (beta) and pubg is also $30. It's going to be an uphill battle.

If I still played multiplayer FPS this would have been a guaranteed buy for me, but then again I have a history of backing the wrong horse in that regard. One of the last games I got really into was UT3.

Yeah I probably shouldn't have posted that on cause it doesn't look like her model but I was being lazy.

The diversity is appreciated but i look at this and i wonder:

Am i seeing characters here or are these MMORPG user avatars? Do they play different? Or do they all playl the same and just are equiped with different armors?
What game is this? It looks like a generic space MMORPG promo image, is this PSO 2? Some sort of Destiny clone?

It lacks identity.

I don't understand why it's an Arena/Hero Shooter hybrid.

If you want to make a really skill based, serious edgy tone game as an alternative to Overwatch that's not direct competition, how about a real Arena Shooter with no heroes/classes and weapon pickups? With the direction Quake went and the slow development of the new UT, there is a void of one of those. Why are people always chasing the leader? Keystone, LawBreakers, Mirage, Paladins (although being free has allowed it to be a success). Overwatch beat you to it, Quake has a brand name attached, how about instead of setting yourself up to fail by competing with those, you look towards a completely different FPS sub-genre?

First time seeing the character designs, wow they're shockingly boring. They remind me of the commercials where they place the "player" into the place of the video game character.
