LawBreakers' launch numbers are much lower than Battleborn's - PCGamesN

It needs legs, if it has them then I can see myself and my friends picking this up eventually like how we picked up Rainbow Six Siege and fell in love with it over a year after it released because if was cheap and was a lot of fun. No single player is a deal-breaker for me at the moment because no one I know has this. If I can get this for $15-$20 later this year and the devs continue supporting the game then I might get it eventually with some friends. I still have a sealed copy of Battleborn I bought for $5 that I haven't even opened yet because no one I know still doesn't have that game.

This game had a really poor promotion, and it comes late to the party of overwatch type of games. Not surprised by the failure. Also selling it like an ultra hardcore difficult to play game is not the best way to earn sales. Not every game has to be dark souls, less an arena fps type of game.

Yeh, nah. First time seeing this game in motion and those recurring voicelines put me right off. I don't mind swearing in game dialogue but in the context of PvP multiplayer and voicelines that play often I'd rather just stick to my own swearing.

Would be embarrassing to play this in front of anyone to be honest, just comes across as forced "dudebro".

These designs are fucking hideous.

Why don't you people buy great games?

Because there have been dozens and dozens of great games. That's 2017's problem there are way too many really great games. It's a bummer but there are gonna be games that will bomba hard this year. Mass Effect seems to have already done so, probably many others to come.

Are you sure those are from the characters and not from real life players?

A little fluff between the ears never did any harm...
Am I the only person who actually like Lawbreakers character design? I mean, Cronos looks like a member of Slipknot and is constantly put forward by marketing despite being one of the worst designs in the game, besides Helix. Other than that though I think the character design is great and also diverse.

Of the 16 human characters(plus 2 robots) 7 are women.
None of them are in sexy outfits and they all have distinct personalities. You won't find any cleavage in any of the alt costumes either. I guess you could argue Hellion's outfit is tight but she's a ninja it fits her design.

Of the 16 characters 7 are white.
Nothing wrong with white characters but it's nice that there is a good amount of diversity.

Other than being diverse I just think the designs look good and modeled in high fidelity. Some of the faces have some uncanny valley happening but overall they look like real people.

I dunno, they look creepy to me. The bright plastic smiles while wielding weapons? If they were more cartoony, I'd probably like it more.

I honestly think people are just tired of these frantically paced futuristic boost jump all over the place shooters.

Successful shooters are now going back to classic boots on the ground gameplay (COD, BF, etc). Even OW is a very grounded and reasonably paced game.
This could be part of it as well. I don't think it is a coincidence that COD is going back to WW2 despite Sledgehammer having a more interesting basis for direct sequels and iteration than the other two studios. If the other person who mentioned waiting until December was referring to Destiny 2, that game has very traditional player movement outside of supers/Ultras. Even the Warlock is not as wild as the wall running and zero gravity stuff that has pretty much failed to catch on with the vast majority of the shooter audience.

Saturated market, online games are going to kill each other at this pace. There is a limited amount of time that you can spend on gaming and, on top of that, online games require most of it if you want to see actual skill improvements.

Also, the design of this game is so unappealing to me. I have no desire to play as ANY of the characters: they look too samey and grey. I am not talking about they need to be cartoonish, because if I take a look at R6's characters, I find them interesting. And their personalities do nothing to change my idea, I would rather like they would shut up instead of hearing swearing and, for example, how handsome he is (that Asian guy) all the time.

These are really the recurring chatter lines? Wow. This is an easy area to give the characters personality and it seems like they didn't even try.

I played the game when it was like that, and I can assure you that the final version of the game does not reflect that in the slightest. It was a bad look but they took that criticism and fixed it.

This news is a death knell for an already in trouble game.

Nobody is going to buy multiplayer only game if it has a reputation of being dead regardless of whether it looks good or not.

Stick a fork in her, she's done.

We should go there if we doesnt want this game to flop
I don't really see how having controller players go up against mouse/kb players in such a fast paced game would work. It might actually cost them recurring players on the console side of things. If Steam and PS4 are not enough individually to cultivate large enough player bases, their goose is already cooked.

nah, i recommend jumping in now and getting those games in while there is a playerbase :D game is great and should last atleast until Destiny 2 comes around.

Honestly, the way CliffyB decided to go all in on the dudebro bullshit is pretty much why I didn't waste my time paying attention to this game.

The overall success hinges on its quality and word of mouth pushing console version numbers up. It's fun and the modes are more original than I expected, but it runs into trouble because of this uniqueness. The learning curve makes it a little awkward. It needs time.

Still, this is very troubling. It is almost like Overwatch has destroyed any future competition, like WoW did with MMOs.

These remind me a bit of the "wonderful" promotional images for the tragedy titled Terminator Genisys.

Its kinda disappointing watching Cliff go from Gears to this, and honestly I expect more from him now. More not only in terms of the game, but also he's a good front-man and he's been relatively quiet on this imo.

when i hear Cliff talk it just creates the same effect on me, as David Cage does on other people when he talks about his games.

The characters remind me of Quake/Unreal Tournament characters... I think that's nuff said.

well Cliff was the lead designer on Unreal Tournament, and i do find this to be the spiritual sequel to the series, feels and plays just like UT but with even more added mobility.

Does Cliffy really have a negative influence on peoples' perception of the game? I thought people were over his bombastic and egocentric personality but it seems like I was wrong.

There's only room for Overwatch in the paid space, and Paladins has the F2P market sewn up. This isn't a genre I'd try to break into right now.

but the game plays nothing like either of those two.

Consumer perception has already decided that it is an "Overwatch-like", even if that is not actually accurate. This is why Boss Key and Nexon should control the narrative about their game instead of letting the commenters do it.

Man, you can easily tell who's played this and who hasn't in this thread. Ya gotta love all the people looking at year old alpha footage judging the game on that alone.

I just feel like multiplayer is getting over saturated. There's so many now that it's like you have to be god like to get any attention.

It's hard for me to get excited for this when I've already got so many online fps and Unreal and Quake are coming back.

The sad thing about the game is that I have no idea what could they do to make it a success. It just seems like a niche game that's really hard to market these days. Maybe they should launch as a F2P game? Paragon-like launch with an extensive open-beta? Try to catch some e-sports ropes?

It's a damn shame, it's really good game. Reminds me of times when I still played games like Quake, Tribes and yes, even Unreal Tournament. But it's understandable that this wont sell like hotcakes. It's not a casual shooter by any means, so it's given. I was on the fence myself after the beta. But decided to pull the trigger and enjoy the game even when struggling to keep up. The characters have also grew on me, but it's mostly because how they play (which actually matters in the end). Sure the designs don't "pop". But they're not hideous either so I'm fine with that. The game isn't redundant, but there's plenty of reductive attitude towards the game.

It's probably the same "cunts" that Cliffy referred to in his tweet. https://twitter.com/therealcliffyb/status/479129693241614336

It's pretty damn hilarious that so many who havent played feel like they need to step-up and act like the know a little something. More people (who enjoy fast, competitive, objective-focused shooters) should just play it and have Steam cut them a refund if they dont dig it.

I admit I haven't followed this one closely except for reading a few interviews with Cliffy B and some earlier previews. I have no mental image of the graphics or characters, nothing stands out. It seems to me like a generic dude-bro game. I'm not saying it doesn't play excellently, just that there has been nothing to appeal to me. I just think future-shooter. I'm not saying I won't play it, but it will probably be when it is free with Xbox Live or PS Plus.

It seems most games with "heroes" now is considered Overwatch-like and it's a bit annoying.

This thread is about poor sales. People who haven't played it sharing opinions is totally valid.

Expecting Nexon to do anything beneficial in a situation is a gamble in and of itself. I didn't even know they were involved but that's enough to turn me off of any game.

Well, to be completely honest... I'm not a great FPS player either and LawBreakers is such a high skill based game that it can really frustrate and turn off the more casual players. This game def isn't for everyone. It's not an OW, BF or CoD. It's insanely fast paced, tough as nails and has the highest skill ceiling of any modern shooter out there. I think i'd have more of a problem if they marketed it as a game for everyone.

Played all Betas, didnt like it (that much). Played tons of UT (99) and Quake 3 and Quake Champions feels more like an Arena shooter than Lawbreakers did in all Betas imo.

Also it doesnt matter if it plays like Overwatch, a MOBA or PUBG. The market feels quite saturated, especially when people now checked out PUBG. While its a different kind of game, I would argue the demographic still overlaps.
