WaPo: Half Of GOP Voters Would Support Postponing 2020 Elections

Your daily reminder that Clinton was perhaps too generous in describing half of Trump's voters as deplorables.

Slightly more than half of Republicans say they would support postponing the 2020 presidential election if President Trump proposed it to make sure only eligible American citizens can vote, according to a new survey.

According to a poll published by The Washington Post, 52 percent of Republicans said they would back a postponement of the next election if Trump called for it.

If Trump and congressional Republicans proposed postponing the election to ensure only eligible citizens could vote, support from Republicans rises to 56 percent.

Lol. Don't be surprised to hear rhetoric proclaiming the Republican Party the rightful stewards of America.

Even though this is a dreamed scenario by the washington post, is a president even able to do that?

Was this a thing ever suggested by Republicans/Trump or are we literally giving them evil ideas now?

Republicans were all about conspiracy theories about Obama postponing elections near the end of his terms to secure power.

Sadly like most of of their crazy, they're actually fine with it as long as it's their guy.

I'm expecting 2020 to be most blatantly rigged US election in history, if Trump isn't impeached before then. The shit Russia pulled in 2016 is going to be dialed up to 11 if Trump and the GOP believe it will fall in their favor.

Theoretically, announcing a State Of Emergency would start a process where the Executive could try this. It would probably be thrown out, but at that point we would probably step right into an actual, shooting-civil war

Because republicans are treasonous unamerican trash.

They would absolutely call for this if the election happened to coincide with a war.

We've never postponed a federal election, ever.

We were in a damn Civil War and still had an election damnit.

When trump got elected, I told my wife we need a plan in place for what threshold he would need to cross for us to leave America. We settled on if it looks like the 2020 elections won't happen in the normal way, we are out.

they care more about "their team staying winning".

these people are stupid. I have no other word for it. they're stupid.

my American friends have pinged me lately to ask if they can "Anne Frank it in my basement" if things get much worse.

Do we really want to go through another nasty campaign while our brave soldiers are fighting in North Korea, folks? Let's put our petty political differences aside and support the troops and our president instead.

This was really depressing to me, even while it would never happen constitutionally, it was still depressing. The willingness of people in a Democracy to turn towards autocracy when it's "their guy" is just... depressing.

mmmmmm, this is just polling random hypotheticals now.

Also, how they phrase the question is important.

"Would you support delaying the election if there was evidence of mass voter fraud?" would probably get a lot of Ayes.

Guys, it's an online poll with less than 1,500 respondents.

It's obviously appalling that anyone would agree to that, but I think this past election has shown that we should have healthy skepticism around polling, and that "internet republicans" skew towards trolling for no other reason than to see people freak out.

What? Not really...

and that "internet republicans" skew towards trolling for no other reason than to see people freak out.

... and to help elect presidents?

It's never going to happen

It's a fly ball out of left field that, if caught, would clinch the win for the World Series. Outfielder is right underneath of it, and by all rights this game is now over.

He'd have to fuck up pretty bad to lose the game. But it could happen. And the team has been playing a pretty shitty game so far to even get to this point, so they need to stay sharp, focused, and determined.

And by "fly ball" I mean "Institutions at the very core of our Democracy".

Democrats don't really seem to want this. Even if their guy. This is a GOP/conservative issue.
