Disgaea 5 Complete (Switch) has surpassed 100,000 copies sold worldwide

Comes from a pdf file from N1 themselves, this seems to be the line in Japanese:

平成29年3月に国内版、平成29年5月に海外版を発売した『魔界戦記ディスガイア5』(Nintendo Switch専用ゲー
ムソフト)が国内、海外合わせて販売本数10万本を突破するなど、好調に推移いたしております。

During its latest financial briefing, Nippon Ichi Software has confirmed that Disgaea 5 Complete has sold more than 100.000 copies. This was in line of expectations as NIS America did confirm a similar amount of pre-orders.

Sounds good to me! We knew it had 110,000 pre-orders in the west, but that was never a guarantee to equal actual sales.

Edit:

This is great news.

It's worth noting that

-These sales were as of June 30, so a month's sales outside of Japan and four months of sales in Japan.
-the 100,000 copies quoted is more of a milestone than a hard figure so assume it's in the ballmark of 100-150k at the moment (given 110k non-Japan pre-orders and less than 20k sold in Japan).

The PS4 version was at 112k sold in North America, Europe and Asia after about four months, and 60k in Japan after almost a year, so this is pretty good going.

Edit 2: I feel it's only fair to also link to Gematsu's article since they actually beat Go Nintendo to the punch many hours prior, and they have a nice write-up too!:

Great performance. Surprised that the pre-order numbers were pretty in-line with actual sales in the end

This is the game that made me decide to get a Switch this summer. Always knew about the series but never played it, just wasn't for me, just too many systems and mechanics. But recently got into JRPG turn based strategy games (Fire Emblem: Awakening & Fates) and was really wanting to see what this was all about. Enjoyed my time with it so far! It's a really neat, goofy game, packed with stuff. Glad to see it's doing well!

I've heard issues with the Item World and the Switch's sleep mode, specifically crashes or hangs when waking up from sleep. It's very mixed, some people get it a lot, other's have 90+ hours with no crashes or freezes. I hope they finally fixed those with the latest patch or fix it in the future.

Soooo...where does this fall in line with what the series usually does? I'm glad I bought it, tbh.

Disgaea 5 sold 172k WW on a machine with a much larger audience, so this is a good result for them, especially for a 2 year late port with nothing new.

Japan bombed real bad though.

Good to hear - I count for two of those! Girlfriend preordered for me as a gift after I'd already pre-ordered and I forgot to cancel my preorder so there's a second one lying unopened in my house lol.

That's a lot of cancelled pre-orders.

Was definitely a stroke of genius on NIS' part to release this while Switch is still so dry for software though. Paying off nicely for them.

Disgaea works better as a handheld title.

Why?

I could not be arsed grinding for hours to no end on the item world on a handheld. The best way to play Disgaea is on a TV.

Said that, being in the Switch doesn't mean it is to be played on handheld mode, so thank you Nintendo for that. Never played the Switch in handheld mode at all.

Now I hope Disgaea 6 is released simultaneously for PS4 and Switch so I don't hav to play it twice for 300+ hours

Great news. I'm hoping we see A LOT more games like this on Switch. Disgaea 5 is my most played game right now. Wish the story wasn't so garbage but the gameplay is good enough to make up for it.

I'm one of the 100k.

Haven't finished it yet due to games like Splatoon taking up my time, but I've really enjoyed what I've played and I'd totally be down for Disgaea 6 on Switch in the future.

Why would you want to be stuck next to a stationary big screen for hours instead of being able to move around? It shouldn't be hard to realize why people prefer handheld mode for games like these.

It's above 100k, not 100k on the point. We don't know how much more than that.

Still need to pick this up. I enjoyed the demo a lot. Had never played the series before so I was not at all prepared for the tone and all the "dudes".

Take notes Falcom.

Falcom is never coming unless another party takes over the port. They seem to have always had bad blood with Nintendo. I am sure it is based on some history with Nintendo's draconian policies.

Falcom was almost always a leading PC developer so it makes sense they mainly support platforms with low cost barriers.

All that said, it doesn't mean Xseed couldn't do the port work to get the games on Switch, just don't expect native support from Falcom ever.

The doods are awesome and you get pirated rock in red magnus, what's not to love !

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

I wouldnt call it bad blood - they have limited resources and focus on the plattforms their fans (likely) own. No need to switch things up for them as long as the games perform well enough for them.

I've put more than 30 hours into this game on Switch, It's great. I tend to prefer SRPGs on handhelds; this game is amazing on Switch

I tried the demo, but unfortunately I couldn't get into it. It's a shame too, because I think I would enjoy it a lot, but I think there's a lot more to the combat than I care to learn.

Still, glad to hear it's found success. It's definitely a game franchise I recognize as deserving of its success

Still haven't seen a physical copy, would've bought it immediately if I came across it. Seems like a fun game.
