Disgaea 5 Complete (Switch) has surpassed 100,000 copies sold worldwide

So what games bombed on Switch?

I can't think of one.
We as of yet have heard a developer or publisher express disappointment at a games sales, its possible Ubisoft expected more from just dance but they haven't gave a hint either way as to what they think of the series on switch right now. I remember in the beginning months that Ubisoft commented that they mostly saw the switch as just a family friendly console and had planned to release the appropriate games for that demographic(what Ubisoft announces for switch in the next couple of months will probably be telling of what they think the audience of the system should be) but that might have changed possibly.

Glad to see more people enjoying the game. Always loved NIS titles and always wanted the company to make more money outside of mainline PS releases.

114k + whatever it sold in Japan (less than 20k Physical, likely much less) is still "more than 100k". It all depends on whether NIS only chose to mention set milestone like 50k, 100k, 150k etc

Still doesn't make so much sense, it would mean almost every owner had the game pre ordered.
I'm starting to think previous pre order numbers were from stores and not final users.

The game sold less than 6k on the first week in Japan, so probably it sold something like 10-15k LTD right?

It's amazing how it sold over 90k in the west

Well yeah, those 114k numbers were preorder numbers, so of course they were based on store preorder numbers.

"Over 100k" means over 100k, that's all we know. It could be anything between 100-150k.

Why?

I could not be arsed grinding for hours to no end on the item world on a handheld. The best way to play Disgaea is on a TV.

Said that, being in the Switch doesn't mean it is to be played on handheld mode, so thank you Nintendo for that. Never played the Switch in handheld mode at all.

Now I hope Disgaea 6 is released simultaneously for PS4 and Switch so I don't hav to play it twice for 300+ hours

Can say the same about TV. Plus, if somebody wants to use it, either I would need to suspend the game or in the case of PS4, remote play through my Vita or PC.

On the Switch, I can take the console out of the dock and continue grinding. Or take it with me while I'm out of my house.

I really enjoyed Disgaea 3 and 4 on my Vita because of that. 5 wasn't the exception.

I can't think of many games of note that aren't Nintendo

from what I remember, the developers or publishers of Blaster Master, Kamiko, Overcooked, Disgaea 5, Graceful Explosion Machine, Super Bomberman R and Ultra Street Fighter II have all reported sales successes on the platform, and stuff like Puyo Puyo Tetris, Lego City Undercover and TumbleSeed have sold predominantly the most copies on Switch.

Definetly a good start don't get me wrong :^)

But what should be the biggest third party release this year? Skyrim? I wonder how that will do

Looks like 3rd parties do in fact sale on Nintendo systems

It's gotta be FIFA, right? I think it'll do pretty well as a good HD portable FIFA, with built in local multiplayer.

The Switch, anyway. I've been meaning to compile some data about Switch third party software sales (since Nintendo only releases sales for retail titles and we've gotten a lot of excellent results from download only titles too) being remarkably good for a Nintendo console. It'd be interesting to know how it compares to Sony/MS consoles in their early months too.

If the Switch can get all the indie and Japanese support that the Vita got I would be happy even if that's all the (increased) 3rd party support that the device gets. But of course, there will be holdouts like Falcom.

Bought it and didn't preorder it. I can't play Disgaea games on TV anymore (last one I tried was D3). Just too much grinding for me to not want to watch TV while I do it.

So this was a great fit for me and one of the reasons I jumped hard for the switch!

Our store actually has a copy of the game that clearly came super hot off the press, as it's a printing error and smudges the whole sleeve front and back. NISA must be rather happy with how well it's done if they're shipping out anything that they're able to.

Got a pic by any chance or can you get one?

Ok performance
nah. massive performance. no other port of a disgaea game managed to surpass the original release in the west, which this should accomplish by year end. d5 did so well it also guaranteed switch versions of more than a half dozen games.

Disgaea 5 is great.

I'm not 100% keen on the characters and story, I think they lost something after Disgaea 2. It's like a lot of it became extra whacky for the sake of whacky, whereas Disgaea 1 and 2 whilst daft at times felt... restrained?

But gameplay wise it's wonderful. I picked it up for my Switch without any hesitation even having platinumed the PS4 version.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

this coming from the American branch or main NIS?

Good question. Penny Punching Princess and Longest 5 Minutes are only known to exist in the west. I don't think N1 itself has announced anything more. Both games were developed internally IIRC though.

Touhou Kobuto is also western-only but that's only localized by NISA. Maybe they did order the port.

Did we pass the test?

PS4 number was low but given that the Switch can hit at least that target there is little reason for N1 to not consider it in future titles.

Never heard of the series, can anybody sell me on the game?

They're SRPGs with nice art and sprites. They really go balls to the wall crazy with the animations and such.

The story is anime as hell and really quite dumb, but that's not what you play it for. The gameplay systems at first seem like it's way too much but once you get it they all play off each other nicely and there's a million ways to break the game.

It's not for everybody but personally I love them.

Re: these sales generating more third party support. I'm amazed Spike Chunsoft have been less reactive about Switch than even Capcom.

They've yet to even announce a single Switch game and you'd think stuff like the Nonary Games/Zero escape collection would be easy money. Or a port of New Danganronpa V3 timed with NISA's release outside of Japan and Asia.

So um... Disgaea 5?

I think he means besides this games.

Honestly, a lot of indie and third party games seem to be doing well on the Switch. So I would expect more ports for the Switch in the future. Give me that Chrono Trigger on Switch Square, please. And The World Ends With You 2.

Even they haven't announced anything yet Spike Chunsoft has talked about developing on the system multiple times. Including the Fire Pro producer saying he thinks World would make sense on Switch.

I think Zero Escape, Danganronpa and Shiren would all make good Switch releases too.

mainly nisa-driven but nis is going to be making switch stuff too because they do well when the american division does well.

Switch seems like the perfect Vita replacement for NISA to take advantage of. They can't rely solely on PS4 releases, as a big piece of their market was the Vita. With D5C doing well, hopefully their audience migrates to Switch and the other releases perform to expectation.

this is more like the successor to the psp in terms of sales and health (which was generally a lot better than vita for niche japanese developers).

I still need to pick it up. The game selling like this is very impressive.

NIS and KT are already commited and we'll probably start seeing more "Vita stuff" as time goes on.
