Coke Zero Is Dead. Long Live 'Coca-Cola No Sugar'

Finally found some cans of this in the wild. It tastes sweeter than Coke Zero, but that's neither good nor bad really. They definitely taste different, and I like both. Shame to see Zero go, but I'm not upset with the replacement like I assumed I would be.

I've seen Coke Zero Sugar 12 packs on the shelves here in the DC area, but not yet Caffeine-free Coke Zero Sugar, which is what I'd prefer. Soon, hopefully.

I find the aftertaste to be far less pronounced as well with Coke Zero Sugar. Almost fountain like consistency.

I like it. It certainly tastes different than the UK version I had earlier this year. I wonder if the ingredients are slightly different there?

I've been drinking Coke Zero for so long that it is "Coke" to me - if I drink regular Coke it tastes very syrupy.

I had my first chance to try Zero Sugar last weekend but I was driving and couldn't give it my full attention. I might have noticed an unexpected aftertaste but I really need to try it again for a quality review.

Tried it last weekend. Same terrible artificial taste. Original Coke for life.
The thing about this "artificial taste" aspect of diet drinks is that it's something you get used to.

Taste buds make a shift, basically.

I don't drink regular soda anymore (except in mixed drinks). Usually when I do it seems too sugary, where the diet version has more of a balance. Some are obviously better than others.

As someone who drank regular soda for many years before doing a switch to diet, I can understand both sides. The flavor that you're comfortable with is the one you stick to, generally.

But it's not something I want to get used to.

I only drink pop occasionally. I don't guzzle it, I'm not diabetic. I have no reason to drink the sugar-free version.

They said they have no plans to make that. Same with cherry and vanilla.

Bastards.

If I can save 240 calories in a day, and be a pretty damn close flavor profile, I don't see why I would choose the regular version. I drink maybe two a week, that's like five miles worth of walking.

Some coke machines have options for Vanilla and Cherry

Freestyle machines can make all sorts of combinations that they won't bring to market otherwise. That is what they are referring to. No plans for cans or bottles.

Damn I didn't know about this.
I only drink sofa with alcohol on like a Saturday night every now and then but fuck that's what I drink. I hate Diet Coke.

I've got a high metabolism, which is a mixed blessing, and I ride my bike every day. I can take in a few extra calories no problem, so again the artificial flavour's not worth it for me.

Well yeah, no one's trying to convert you. I'm just talking from experience and what I've heard from other diet drinkers.

You drink what you enjoy. The reason I switched to diet if anything is because diet drinks got better over time and I eventually liked them enough to switch over. Heck, Coke Zero tasting more like the real thing than Diet Coke played a part.

I'm not sugar-avoidant, believe me. I'm skinny (underweight even) and have a fast metabolism but I prefer to get my sugar from other sources. You may see me drinking a Coke Zero but you won't see me eating Arctic Zero ice cream. I'll stick with my Ben & Jerry's because I absolutely prefer it.

I got hooked on Coke Zero a few years back and have been wanting to cut down recently. Well last week after grabbing some I came home and realized it was lasting longer then normal. At first I thought I'd been better about watching my intake, but it turns out I'd bought the Zero Sugar version and I was naturally not drinking as many. It's not bad, and I'm going to finish what I bought, but I think it's funny that, as someone who wanted to cut down on soda, my biggest ally was the company selling the product.

Tried it this week. It's pretty good. If Zero and no sugar were put in front of me, I'm not sure which one I'd take.

So are Caffeine-free, cherry, and vanilla discontinued or will the Coke Zero versions remain? If they're gone entirely, that's some real BS right there. I only discovered Caffeine-free Coke Zero recently, though, so it won't be too hard to give up soda altogether if I have to.

We seem to have more and more Coke Zero's on the shelf..... I see no Coke "No Sugar" We still have Coke Cherry Vanilla and all that jazz.

They are sticking with the old formulation. Makes no sense, though.

I bought a bottle of Coke Zero at the supermarket today.

They must be using up the last of the supply before putting Zero Sugar on the shelves.

I've been drinking diet soda so much for so long that my taste buds may be fried, but the new formula tastes more like regular Coke to me.

I'm honestly shocked they are pulling coke zero. It's the only diet version of a soda I think tastes better than the original.

Coke Zero was my transition from regular soft drinks to carbonated water, so I owe my (partly) healthier lifestyle to it.

I'm legit kinda shook right now.

Looks like it swapped out with Coke Zero where I live now

I actually like it much more. I'm surprised.

Tried this.
It tastes like a Diet Coke
Diet Coke already exists
I want Coke Zero to taste like Coke Zero
Garbage

Not even close.

This taste NOTHING like Diet Coke. If anything it taste like Coke Zero with no aftertaste.

I drink a ton of Coke Zero btw.

I fucking love this new formula and would even choose it over full sugar Coke, that shit is like oil in my mouth now.

IIRC some studies showed artificial sweeteners lead to greater insulin resistance as wellas more frequent 'snack' cravings. Cant recall the source though...

Ideally IMO all sodas would use real sugar. It is less detrimental than HFCS and has a better flavor profile. Moderation and not being aglutton makes soda intake perfectly fine for healthy, active adults.

Yup. Anyone who claims it tastes like Diet Coke needs their taste buds recalibrated.

tastes close enough to coke zero i don't really care. seems like the aftertaste is much smoother, perhaps that's what they were going for

I got a couple of the 8.5 oz bottles and tried them the other night. I liked it? I had it over ice though so I need to get some cold 20oz bottles to try. I think so far my verdict is it's different but I like both.

Yea, it taste nothing like regular diet coke. To me it has a tamer taste than Coke zero which I like.

Bummed to read about this. Coke zero was my jam for a while. Moved on to Zevia for the last few years. I'll try this new thing once or twice I guess.

Finally got a bottle of this today and as someone who always disliked the taste of coke zero I really enjoyed the taste of this version. Diet Pepsi is still my favorite but this is certainly the best Coca Cola diet product I've had as I don't care for regular diet Coke either.

I've been drinking diet soda so much for so long that my taste buds may be fried, but the new formula tastes more like regular Coke to me.

Same, I haven't had a sip of regular soda in over 5 years and now diet Pepsi doesn't taste like diet in the least for me, same with this new Coke version.

I like this way more than regular Coke Zero. I hope the vending machines at work start getting them soon. I like it so much that I don't have a craving for regular coke when drinking this.
