Secret of Mana Remake (PC/Vita/PS4, February 15th, 2018) Trailer

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
They basically stuck with the Adventures of Mana art style.

The bright side of that is they're likely not going to stop with just Seiken Densetsu 1 and 2. I'd guess they'll do a Seiken Densetsu 3 remake in the same art style with a worldwide release.

It may look like it but there's more depth now compared to AoM:

Lost my shit when I saw the title and heard the music....

Then lost hope when I saw the art style and heard the voices.

And why no Switch version?

SoM was one of my favourite games growing up. It deserves better than this.

This should be bmp/real art and not low poly 3d
So you lost hope for the art style and the voice but you ask why it isn't on switch? If it's on switch the art and the sound will be better? Lol

That's quite expensive for a low budget remake. Based on Adventures of Mana, we can at least expect a 1:1 remake with new graphics/music.

That didn't stop Capcom selling Ultra SF2 on Switch for nearly full price and how good it sold for that price.

SOM is fine with this remake style since SNES SOM is really colorful and cute.
This graphic design works.

But SD3 is too dark though.
Darker storyline and more matured character design.
I really hope they don't use this remake style for SD3.
Cell-shaded at least.

Nooo.... I ask why not because SoM collection was released on the switch and will be again on the SNES mini shortly. Game has a history on Nintendo consoles.

To be fair I will probably buy this for Vita anyway but I was not trying to bring any console war into this.

I am allowed to not like the style, right? I think you misunderstood my concern.

I've gotta give props to Square-Enix for including the Vita version despite how late into the systems life it is. People must have put their money where their mouth is and bought Adventure.

Really looking forward to it!

Nice surprise. I'll play the SNES mini version then play this eventually.

Didn't a leaker hint of this one a while back? Along with some sort of FFVI remake?

Even if the price is high I'm more confident on spending the money on this than the "sequel" of I Am Setsuna.

Day 1, can't avoid nostalgia.
Share Play will be good for this.

That game. Would have been awesome to have on Switch for portability and coop.
I'll wait to see differences between PC and PS4 then... Oh no, please make it on switch !*whine*

I think I'll rather just replay the original in the SNES Classic Mini in a month or so. I really don't like the artstyle. It worked for Adventure of Mana because the original style was so old... but this conversion loses all the charm of the original 2D sprites.

I dread to think we'll get Seiken Densetsu 3 like this. Monkey's paw and all that.

If you want portability, we have a product for you. It's called the Sony PlayStation Vita entertainment system. - Some PR guy, probably.

Well, Vita, old chum; you held on just long enough to make manifest a Secret of Mana remake. I don't know if it'll be good, but the point is, you did it. They said you were done long ago, but you just wouldn't quit. And now; now you can rest happily, knowing you at last saw this day, Vita. Vita? ...Vita??

Good try SQEX. I still want that Switch collection with Seiken Densetsu 3 localized. You ain't drawing my attention away from it with this shiny new remake of 2

I dont know why but most of the modern games with an anime style I just cant get into the art direction at all.

Not sure why I loved that 90s style so much but now the modern way kind of turns me off.

Such as? I can not see any reused assets in these comparison screens. While it probably runs on the same engine and they'll probably retouch enemy models, I think that's a pretty incorrect claim to make

They probably improved on top of that, but some instances looks too similar to not have a common ancestor. Like, the textures on the hairs, the clothes...

As a pixel art snob, I never thought Secret of Mana looked all that good to begin with, so the look doesn't really bother me. I actually kind of prefer this in some ways, though I'm definitely missing shadows under the models. The only real downer to the announcement I see, is that they didn't seem to make an effort to make this online co-op. Secret of Mana is primarily known for its multiplayer and its music, and the modernised equivalent of its multiplayer would certainly include online functionality. Seems like a missed opportunity.

Edit
Nevermind, I see some of the footage DOES have shadows.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
It looks hideous, starting the trailer with that gorgeous artwork was not smart. The game deserved better.
